FE Technical Forum / Harmonic balancer questions
« on: September 04, 2017, 02:24:36 PM »
My old original balancer came apart this weekend, it only lasted 53 years. The v belt groove is the outer ring of the balancer. Looking at new performance balancers the pulley bolts on the front of the balancer and will cause alignment issues with water pump and altinator. Does anyone make a balancer that will aline like the original? If so who's would you recommend? This is a stroked 390 444 ci 6200 rpm street strip deal. If I remember right it's internal balanced.

Thanks, John

FE Technical Forum / carb CFM

I notice on most 445 builds they have 750 carbs. When I originally built mine in 2006 I also used a750 dp. It ran solid but seemed to me it could use more. I borrowed an 850 dp from a friend and it pulled much better mid to upper rpms with little to no change in the lower rpms. Its a run of the mill 445, 10.-1. Edd heads, rpm intake, no porting, comp 282s,  1 7/8" headers. Both carbs were tuned by the seat of the pants. I would appreciate you're thoughts, opinions, experiences please.

Happy holidays.

FE Technical Forum / wiped out cam bearing
« on: April 01, 2015, 07:03:45 PM »
Hi all, I,ve been lurking here for a number of years but have never posted. Now its time, I was going to do cam change on my 444 and  discover the bottoms of all the cam bearing are wiped out! This motor has maybe 4000 miles on it. The cam was a comp 270 H with the valve springs that came with the Edelbrock heads. If I remember right the springs are 130-380lbs.  Any ideas what would cause this?

Thanks in advance

John
