Non-FE Discussion Forum / 66 Fairlane - Rock Auto Closeouts
« on: April 01, 2022, 07:55:44 AM »
Just got an email from Rock Auto who I've used from time to time for Fairlane and Galaxie standard parts.  Several of the items they're closing out are ones I've used and are of good quality. The prices look good especially for these inflationary times:

Member Projects / New interior for the Gal
« on: August 17, 2021, 05:50:21 PM »
Hi All, a little update on my Galaxie.  Over the last couple years I've got it running pretty well mechanically with all systems now up and running including the AC for these hot Texas summers!  BP fixed me up with one of his 482s and we decided to dress it up with a shirt and tie for nice street manners.

A little over a year ago I decided to take the plunge on the interior and made my order with SMS Auto Fabrics. All new seat materials and door panels.  I ordered in May 2020 and got all the materials last March.  Still waiting on the door panels but they've told me they're going to run them this month (fingers crossed!).  I really wanted to go original with this one because it naturally has lots of "bling" and has a rare trim code (71).  The 1 is supposed to indicate the first deviation from standard.  In this case Ford must've run out of the regular 63 cloth material and substituted material intended for the 64s.  That makes some sense in this case because the car was built in Dallas in the last few weeks of 63 production.  I finally settled on a local shop here to sew it all up, Dooley and Sons Hot Rod Shop, and I think they did an outstanding job.

FE Technical Forum / New Shorty Exhaust Manifolds

Just saw where Kugel Komponents posted on their Facebook page.  A run of their repro cast shorty manifolds have arrived from the foundry and are headed to the machine shop:

They look like the ones that would fit pre-'65 Galaxies / Montereys.

I want to thank Blair Patrick for the excellent job building and after-sales advise on the 482 for my Galaxie.  I had a couple of VC leaks due to some warpage but was able to seal them up.  I wanted a mild build with some punch and to be able to run all the original power accessories.  It also needs to stay cool with the AC running here in southeast Texas in the summer.
To borrow from old Ford ad copy, what we have here is "an old rough, tough 427 forced into a shirt and tie!"

Some Notes:
Hot idle rpm: 750
Oil press cold: 75 psi
Oil press @ hot idle: 25 psi (VR-1 30W)

Timing: 32 deg. @ 3000 rpm

Vacuum @ hot idle: 20 in.
No temp issues; stable w/ 180 deg. thermostat.  I'm currently using the original dash gauge, but I plan to install an actual calibrated gauge.

FE Technical Forum / '26 T at AutoRama Houston
« on: November 24, 2018, 03:11:52 PM »
Check out the Cammer-powered '26 T pickup at this year's AutoRama.  The owner / builder said he wanted to put Ford's biggest engine in their smallest engine bay!  I'd say he's done it.  The Cammer is tilted 30 or 40 degrees I don't remember which, with a homemade dry sump system, Autolite inline carbs, and lots of other goodies.  Hope y'all enjoy.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / New '66 Fairlane Repro Grille
« on: February 02, 2018, 10:40:44 AM »
Hi y'all, thought I would let you know of the recent repro grille installation on my Fairlane.  Dennis Carpenter started repro'ing these so I thought I'd give one a try.  It comes assembled with the upper and lower moldings, using hardware similar to the original.  The center "spinner" is not included so you'll have to use your old one or find a good used one.  Btw the plastic inserts in the spinners are also available repro.

It was pretty tough this time; lots of cold rain bunched the field up but a Ford GT still came out on top in the GTLM category:

I enjoyed seeing this brochure scan, showing most of the '69 performance cars and parts:

A good way to celebrate 4-28 or 4-29!

FE Technical Forum / 1966 Ford GT 40 Mk II LeMans Winner
« on: January 12, 2016, 07:45:18 PM »
As most of you know Ford returns to compete at the 24 Hours of LeMans this year.  This is a well-done video discussing the car that won 50 years ago, its 485HP 427 FE, and some of Ford's competitors back in the day.  Btw the top speed achieved by the '66 Ford GT on the tree-lined Mulsanne straight was approx. 215 mph, about 40mph faster than the nearest finisher!  IMO these cars still look current today, as a testament to their classic design and performance.

Another Ford legend recognized!  Also a couple of pictures of his altered Mustang, probably from '65-'66 time period.

For many more images, Google "Hubert Platt"

I saw him match-race the altered Mustang at Lions in Long Beach back in the day.  The crowd went wild!

Non-FE Discussion Forum / MSD 6AL Box
« on: July 19, 2015, 08:54:41 PM »
Hi Y'all, I installed an MSD 6AL box and Pro-Billet dist in my Fairlane SBF about 10 years ago.  The box was mounted under the front seat cause I didn't want it to show in the engine compartment.  I just finished a couple months-long job doing an R+R on the heat/AC plenum and took the seat out of the car.

I started the car up today to check the system, leaks, etc. with the front seat out and noticed a hum coming from the box; it was slightly warm to the touch, too.  Is the hum normal?  I never noticed it before!  Btw the car runs fine.

Thanks, Bruce
