Non-FE Discussion Forum / O/T question for Joe Craine
« on: February 22, 2015, 05:00:39 PM »
Joe as your reputation for a porter has been  excellent I have a question for you about a P51 Kasse cylinder head. Have you ever ported one of these heads? I am considering buying a set for my 545.  I already have the Kasse redesigned "super cobra jet" heads that were sold before the P51 design. These with a what is called a "pocket porting job" by the gentleman that does some very good work in our area. What kind of cfm could expect from a set of these (the P51's) with a full port job? I am 74 and will not compete forever but still am able to have fun and even win sometimes. LOL. I know you do the Mummert heads for some of the Y block guys as I have always been a booster of these engines as I had a lot of fun with mine years ago. But I now seem to really like my 385 series engines for their economy of build. I also had a 390 in my fairlane but the FE's are just too expensive for me to build one with a decent block as I would never use a stock block to build the power that I am used to now. By the way my 57 that weighed over 3700 lbs went 12.09 with a 125 shot of NOS with my home built 304 Y block that I did the home porting on a set of unposted ECZ G cylinder heads. I also built the tunnel ram for it a fun job with my MIG welder. Now I have a TIG so just have to teach myself how to use that Then I can use aliminum to save a little weight 8).

Non-FE Discussion Forum / New carpet for my 77 F100
« on: February 16, 2015, 10:30:27 PM »
I just bought a new carpet for my 77 F100 short box and needless to say it came folded up in a box. Any ideas how to get the fold creases out of this carpet. I was thinking about using a hair dryer on the back side and a friend at our car club mentioned getting it wet on the folds and leaving something on them over night. Just looking for something that might work. These came from LMC truck if that makes any difference. :-\

Non-FE Discussion Forum / O/T rant its cold and we can't race.

Fox body and other Fords with GM junk in them
I am ranting today as it is real cold and I just ain't going out other than to get my mail and paper. And you guys tell me the reason all these and I will be nice and say "people" are putting the brand X engines in the fox body. As for the BBF is it price or availability or what? I have here right in front of me a recent add in national dragster by Shafiroff racing engines advertising their 632 sportsman engine for 16,250.00 . They are claiming 1030hp on that one. Their pro series are advertised at 24,750.00 and claiming 1225 hp. They all have aftermarket heads and blocks and cranks and everything else. Whats the reason I am looking for some honest shit. The SBF seems to be pretty darn competitive when some person will build it the same way they build the brand X small puke stuff. As I have yet to see an SBC that makes decent power using a 2 bolt 283 thing out of the 60's but I have seen these idiots build up a SBF ford using as factory 302 which we know is no stronger than an early 289 and then break it and then some builder says to them you have to put a sbc puke motor in it to go fast and stay together. Then he will build them a Dart block brodix headed thing and of course it will be faster last longer to be expected. Its my opinion and I think most might agree that a BBF junk yard block that can be purchased for usually 100.00 or so complete will withstand 700 plus and an early one which has been converted to 4 bolt mains should be good for at least 850 hp. We won't go into the ls stuff but we do know that the block is good for quite a lot of hp but it should be as it is a reasonably new design. Just like the Ford modular 3 valve and 4 valve can be put together and make good hp. How about some of you engine builders chime in here. Just for the record I bought parts from a lot of the vendors on this site and my pump gas 545 made 702 hp and has been dam reliable only problem has been losing a roller lifter and I blame that on some VERY VERY slow driving at the "Back to the Fifties" car show in St Paul over a couple of days. I can't even recognize some of the engines I see like the I think it is called a "481X" I asked a guy what it was and he said a ford/chev/dodge as they used the best features all the brands and built it from scratch. I watch the show "Street Outlaws" and I know it is mostly TV but enjoy watching it anyway. Now I see the one guy that runs a Dodge has a BBC in it so I won't pull for him anymore in fact I hope he loses his ranking. So I am suppose to believe that nobody can build a hemi or even a big wedge than can compete as they all use nitrous. As you can see I am RANTING today to keep from being pissed off about this below zero crap we are putting up with. Hey I am 74 years old and have good blood pressure and want to keep it that way LOL. Lets hear some reasons and my 63 Fairlane has went 10.20 at 133 and I still drive it and it is street legal with 92 octane. I posted this today on a different BBF forum that's why there are no mentions of FE fords but I have had a couple of them too. I know there was one in a Fox at Brainerd last summer but I only seen it there once. Hey we can't race for quite a while at least us northern guys so lets at least do some bashing and bench racing. >:(

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Jay or anybody else that know s this
« on: May 15, 2014, 09:16:51 AM »
I was wondering if a swing out door bar is legal when you have your chassis certified for nines. The reason I ask is my car is very close to the nine second zone and it is a bit hard to get into the way the bar is situated. I am thinking about updating it for the possibility of making go a bit faster and not having to lift. :)

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Homeland The TV show
« on: December 16, 2013, 05:16:28 PM »
Are any members here on this forum followers of the showtime TV show "Homeland" ? I watched the supposed final last night and one of the main characters was killed off. Do any of you folks know if this is the end of the series or is it going to be back next year with one of the main characters gone. Hey this is the non car subjects so just asking as this is one of my favorite shows. :(

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Just got the new Hot Rod today and am I pissed
« on: November 09, 2013, 06:07:45 PM »
What is wrong with these knuckleheads with putting there goofy brand X motors in damn near every ford product you can think of. Don't they know anybody that knows how to build a ford engine in there areas? And don't give me any of that shit that they are so cheap to build compared to a ford either as most of the ones I saw were VERY high buck engines. I have said this before the cheapest to build up to 450 hp is the bbf 385 series. After that to 750 it is probably the bbc but not by much, after that it is a wash. 1200 or so hp is going to cost 20,000.00 or so regardless of what you build or have built for you. A coyote crate engine is 420 hp as it comes from ford and is very accepting for a blower as it comes from ford for up to 1000hp they say. The small block ford blocks are very close to the same cost as the brand X when you get to the Dart ones and the others. And heads are a wash too. I am so damn pissed tonight I can hardly think. Am I missing something here ? Come on guys tell me. Jay's Galaxy as heavy as it is went very well and won. And we know that was with a cammer which is a rare and I might add expensive engine, but it went like crazy in that heavy aerodynamic Galaxy. Am I remembering right that it made about 900 hp? That ain't too hard to do with a 385 series engine for less than 15,000.00. And that's with the same type cylinder as the stockers. Think Kasse P 51's. They are about 1400.00 apiece bare then the valves are the same price as the brand  X stuff. You know what I am getting at.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Hood scoop for 71 Maverick
« on: September 03, 2013, 10:06:15 PM »
I just picked up a 71 Maverick that has an old snorkel style hood scoop. I am not to fond of that style hood scoop so need some ideas on a replacement style. And pictures would help too. This car should be ready to run in a week or so.  :)

FE Technical Forum / To anyone thinking of a 5 speed
« on: August 28, 2013, 11:23:28 AM »
for their project. While at Brainerd this last weekend I went looking for a certain red chevelle that was running about the same times as I was. I found him and was going to challenge him to a race as it is more fun when you have somebody beside you that is close. JMHO. It turns out that he was running a Tremec T600 I believe. He said it was not modified for more power and I did happen to watch him make a pass on Saturday. It looked to me like his shifts were very fast. So far he told me it has been bulletproof. This was a mid to low 10 second street car and must have weighed at least 3500 lbs with driver. I know Jay was thinking of building a 5 speed car so I am just throwing this out to show that maybe these trans are fairly strong. Because if my math is right he must have been putting down 650 or more hp. I am planning on one this coming winter for my car so wanted to see somebody using one in person. :)

FE Technical Forum / Where were all the FE's this weekend at Brainerd?
« on: August 27, 2013, 11:09:45 AM »
I went to Brainerd International Raceway this past weekend to an event put on by the Minnesota Street rod association. It was all paid for by the MSRA so is a good event. Limited to older cars only like the mid seventies. If it was not for one of our members here on this site I don't think there was an Fe powered car there. I could be wrong but I didn't even see any 67/70 style mustangs there. Dean was there with his 427 powered 56 ford gasser project and doing well. There must not be very many Fe enthusiasts here in Mn that will actually "use there cars". I would have loved to see Jay there to show the Brand X cars how these things can run. But I know he is very busy with other things right now. There was even a Y block powered mid 60's pickup racing and having fun. Not terribly fast BUT he was there and having fun and showing brand loyalty. Just ranting I guess.

Need to identify this pan

Post  57custom Today at 12:30 am
so I know the amount of oil to put in it. Do any of you guys know what this is off of? I had it in the back room of my shop and it was pretty new but can't remember where i got it. I don't have the original dipstick as you can see. I just need to know the capacity. The engine does have a windage tray. One of our better engine builders in our area told me to keep the oil slightly below the windage tray. I don't want to have to remove the pan as everything is altogether. Hope somebody can identify it as I think it is a truck pan but don't know for sure. Embarassed I thought I knew how to add a picture but it didn't work HELP

Edelbrock carbs on my tunnel ram

I have been building a 466 what I call a nostalgia engine for my 63 fairlane tudor. I have a weiand tunnel ram on it along with a solid Iskendarian cam and iron CJ heads Thats the basics. I have 2 600 holleys that I modified for mechanical secondary's. I got the wild idea to put a pair of 750 polished Edelbrock carbs on it for the look and hopefully to make decent power. In you guys opinion are these carbs going to cost me a lot of power over the holleys. Remember these are 600 home modified holleys with metering plates in the rear of both carbs. Without spray I am hoping it will at least approach 600 hp. I did do a lot of grinding on the intake as shown on a post from quite a while ago that I saved so it does look good. Has anybody tried the Edelbrocks on an FE like on a tunnel wedge or an Edelbrock dual quad that doesn't allow for the spacing of the holleys.

FE Technical Forum / Water methanol injection
« on: March 12, 2013, 03:01:31 PM »
Hi guys has anybody on this forum tried the water methanol injection when the compression ratio of an engine you built turned out to high? I used almost all the parts that I had laying around and had bartered for over the years to come up with a combo that has ended up with a 14 to 1 compression ratio. (no its not an FE) Its a 466 BBF. I have already bought a snow performance water/meth injection setup and am planning on trying it out when I dyno this thing in the very near future. Just wondering as on the forums I use hardly anybody even talks about using it. I suppose they do on the more modern mod motor and brand X forums but not much on here or the BBF forums. I have a tunnel ram and have installed a noozle in each end of the plenum. Snow says it will boost octane enough for me to run 93 with this compression ratio. I guess I will see but if there is any interest I will post the results after the dyno time.
