Vendor Classifieds / Blue Thunder 427 High Riser Head Casting - one!
« on: February 26, 2024, 05:44:17 PM »
ONE Blue Thunder 427 High Riser head.  Was used as a "port model", with a single hand ported intake port, and a single CNC formed combustion chamber.  Other ports and chambers as provided by BT.  Earlier casting with short OE style exhaust side head bolt bosses.

I only have this single head. No reason for me to hold on to it, and since castings are IMPOSSIBLE to find, this would be good for someone running a race deal with BT heads to keep as a spare or use to service a broken set .

Has been sitting for a decade or more.
Dusty with surface fuzz on seats etc.
Never installed on an engine. Open to rational offers.
$1300 or ?

Vendor Classifieds / Ford 427 OE Block and Pistons - $2000. SOLD
« on: April 30, 2023, 01:40:09 PM »
Factory 427 block.  Was machined and run as a complete dyno tested engine for a period of time.  Eventually developed a fairly small coolant leak into the crankcase, looks like a porosity hole that opened up between a couple cylinders.  Should have been a straightforward drill & tap for a small pipe plug.  Someone local to the owner tried to repair it and thought they would have better access by removing the screwing freeze plugs that had been in place for 50+ years.  That did not work out well - used a torch to heat up the block/plug and cracked it pretty well.  Owner had another block, so we just swapped the internals and fixed him up.

I have sent pictures to HotRodFEGuy, who welds iron very successfully.  He estimated around $400ish for the repair.  The round trip shipping kinda hurts, so before I go that route I thought I'd advertise it "as is" first.  Bore is currently 4.265.  Pistons are custom flat tops from Racetec, for the common 4.250 stroke/6.7 combination.  Weld it/pin it/Hard Block it - your choice.

Price is obviously flexible, but we have to start somewhere.
Worst I can say is "no".
Won't fit in a mailbox - so shipping is "on you" - or pick it up.

Private Classifieds / WTB - Performer RPM intake
« on: December 02, 2021, 09:33:03 PM »
Like it says - I need a Edelbrock 7105 Performer RPM intake for a build in process.

I also have an assortment of factory cylinder head castings.
Hate to throw them away as scrap, but I don't want to inventory them at the new place (not enough room)
I sold a few pair on ebay but its really a slow process.
Better for local pickup - you'll pay more for UPS than for the heads.
Any reasonable offer.

These are all dirty take off parts in various stages of disarray.
Some will have broken bolts in the exhaust, some will need more work than others.
Consider them as cores.

C8AE-H 3 pair
C4AE-G 2 pair
D2TE-AA 1 pair

Also have some log exhaust manifolds.  Pretty much worthless unless your's is broken
C8AE
C5SE
C3SE
C6AE

Any reasonable - or unreasonable - offer will be taken
Hate to scrap something if anybody needs them

FE Technical Forum / Gauging Interest - version 2.0 - intake questions
« on: January 21, 2021, 03:53:25 PM »
While putting together a deal to cast more of my heads (after an extended delay), another opportunity has come up.

Edelbrock is no longer offering the Dominator flange Victor intake.  Are there enough folks out there who would still want a 4500 flange single plane?  While apparently not enough volume for large companies to machine and inventory, I have the chance to purchase raw single plane castings and machine them as I desire.  Local machining and custom capabilities would allow me to offer some port match and pushrod hole customization (or deletion) at a reasonable cost.

Vendor Classifieds / Hooker 6903 headers - almost new...SOLD
« on: October 08, 2019, 08:18:39 AM »
Ran these on the recent EMC entry
Only have about 30 dyno pulls on them.
2WD pickup truck headers.
The black paint they ship with is pretty much burned off.
The weird little reduction to 2.5" step at the end of the collector has been removed (tried it - not good)
The gaskets are obviously gone
The bolt kit they send with them is in orbit somewhere - - why would a big company use a junk fastener with a 3/8-16 thread and a metric hex head?
Original price from the big box stores is about $287 - - can I get $200???

Vendor Classifieds / ProGram cross bolt cap set - sold
« on: October 08, 2019, 08:05:56 AM »
Had somebody order these - and then decide not to use them when they did not arrive within his desired three day shipping window.
They are new and in the original packaging.

These are notoriously hard to come by - with long periods between production runs.
I figured I would check here to see if someone wanted a set before I return them to the supplier.
They cost $398.99 plus UPS

Now that the contest has ended I need to sell this engine - have to pay some bills.  Many of these parts were already in my shop from past projects.  With this years rules we decided to put them together as an assembly for the challenge.  As such, some of them are older but in good condition, while other items were borrowed and have to be returned - you thus have the option to purchase it as is - or customize this to suit your needs.

I will consider parting this out, but would prefer to sell the complete assembly.

This package consistently delivered over 530 horsepower both at home and at the EMC event.  One pull at home had a 538HP number, but it frequently hit 533 in both locations.  Best torque was around 520.  Power was around 526 at 5500 RPM and remained above that level beyond 6600 - - - really flat power band.  We usually ran it to 6800 for scoring, but did go beyond 7000 once just to see.

Specifics...
Block is a 390.  It is bore to 4.100 and has about two inches of hard block - - still quite a ways below the water pump holes and certainly still usable as a street piece.  Has a small (under a 1/2 inch) spot of weld on one deck next to the lifter valley.  We saw a suspicious looking area there and decided to stick a little bit of weld on as insurance.  There are perhaps three dozen pulls on the engine with no sign of any problems at all.

Crank is a 428 factory item ground 10-10
Rods are Scat H beams
Pistons are custom Race-tec flat tops with 10.47:1 compression, lateral gas ports and a 1.0-1.0-2.0mm Mahle ring pack
Balanced internally

Camshaft is a Bullet roller with just under .600 lift per specifications - measured .574 at the valve actual once assembled.
Damper is a Romac
Timing cover and chain are FE Power items
Oil pan is a Ford factory C8AX performance piece from 1968
Rockers are Harland Sharp bushing style with ARP mounting studs
Heads are C6AE-R castings, ported by Joe Craine.  Valves are Rev 2.150 and 1.650 with 11/32 stem.  Springs are Comp conical solid roller cam parts with titanium retainers.
Valve covers are really nice polished Blue Thunder competition style parts.

The Street Dominator intake that we ran belongs to Joe Craine and has already been removed for return to him.  The distributor we used belongs to Tim Young and has also been removed for return to him.  Same thing for the carburetor, which has already been given back to Randy Malik and Adney Brown.  If somebody wants to purchase this as a running engine we would install replacement parts of their choice and run it again on dyno before delivery.

Price will obviously depend on degree of completion and added parts desired, but when making offers or determining budget please realize that there are some fairly valuable and expensive parts included.  Despite the 390 block and iron heads, this is truly not an economy or budget type build.

Member Projects / My 2019 EMC entry horsepower guess - version 2...
« on: September 26, 2019, 05:38:19 AM »
I saw - and responded - JDC's post regarding his Y block.
Thought I should put something similar up for my entry as well

Rules mandate a factory combination with non-performance iron heads and max of .600 lift

Mine is a 410 Mercury engine
Bore at 4.100 (.050 over), stroke at 3.980, displacement ends up around 420 cid
Heads are C6AE-R castings that JDC initially ported for another customer.  That project went another direction and I acquired and finished them for this engine.
Intake is a matching JDC ported Holley Street Dominator which seems to like as many spacers stacked on top of each other as rules will allow.
Compression is a rules limited 10.5:1
Cam is a rules limited .598/.596 lift which actually measures in the .574 range as installed.
Carb will be one of the five or six string in the test cell - they are all within a couple points of each other.
Oil pan is a C8AX factory piece

Vendor Classifieds / Edelbrock Victor EFI 4500 intake
« on: October 22, 2018, 09:15:33 PM »
I have the intake form the EMC engine for sale.
Edelbrock Victor EFI with the 4500 flange.
Excellent condition - been installed on engines but never in a car.
Has been ported by JDC - to Survival CNC heads (also fits CNC Edelbrock heads nicely)
Could doubtless be tweaked to fit many others as well
Has a couple pushrod tube inserts - no problems with them - just needed them for clearance

Intake new from the big box stores is $770+ for the 4150 flange version - they do not even show the 4500 flange

$1000.......

Vendor Classifieds / Engine Master block assembly
« on: October 14, 2018, 11:38:35 AM »
Already sold the heads.
This is the bottom half.
Parts are used - not broken - but used

Crank is Scat cast 4.125, Rods are Scat 6.8 H beams piston are (I think..).Diamond for 4.25 stroke with a thin ring pack, lateral gas ports, and skirt coating - and have has about .020 milled from the top to work with .066 Cometic gaskets.

Cam is a custom Comp solid roller.  This one is short duration and I can swap in another " bigger" one upon request.  Timing is an adjustable set under one of Jay's timing covers.

Pan is Ford C8AX in really nice shape with normal Melling and ARP bits in the appropriate places and a Romac damper.

Block is junk.  Early Sideoiler Garage/Genisis piece.   Starter side is a puzzle put together with stitch pins, braze, epoxy, and paint.  Block is filled 80% and it still leaks water.  Never any water in the oil, makes good power and lots of dyno pulls at over 650HP so it must be structurally sound.  Someone like Hot Rod might be able to weld it, you might just fill it to the decks, or you might try a bunch of GM stop leak tablets - caveat emptor.

I will take $5000 for it as is.  If you add up the parts you will see that its something approaching a free block to take a gamble on.

I could be talked into splitting it up
