FE Technical Forum / 1969 428 CJ carburetor question
« on: February 02, 2018, 09:47:34 PM »
What is the function of the gizmo on the top of the front fuel bowl?  The extra lever and rubber grommet...I think it was on 67-69 Holleys, 390 GT, 428 CJ...trying to get the exact, correct SCJ 4spd Torino carb here.  Thanks!

FE Technical Forum / SCJ balancer recommendations
« on: February 28, 2016, 10:05:32 AM »
Looking for wisdom on buying balancers for SCJ, but for two different applications.  For one car we need a stock, correct replacement C8AE-C.  The second is for a T-bolt clone my dad brought home, sporting an FE that I'm guessing was built in the 80's (more on that).  He just wants to run it for fun, but I'm thinking better than stock should be applied in an effort to not ruin some rare parts; there's an SCJ balancer out front looking suspect.  I appreciate any feedback.

FE of the 80's - we can see an SCJ balancer, 406 heads, Ford adj. rockers, an Edelbrock F-427 intake and a Holley 750.  Haven't checked cam yet, but it sounds big.  Seller didn't build it but said the heads had bigger valves and it had really high compression.  I'd like to swap an intake immediately but haven't convinced him there's far better choices.

Looking for SCJ crank/rods/balancer for a recently-purchased Drag Pack Cobra which is missing the bottom of its orig engine.  Interested in a 1969 CJ block and carb as well.  Just stock stuff, to make it original.  Got lucky here, ran the Marti report after purchase (no door tag) of n R-code fastback and learned it was a 4.30 car!

FE Technical Forum / Holley 950 3 Barrel & a Felony 427 (571 HP @5800)
« on: October 01, 2013, 08:58:23 PM »
We had a laugh at Barry's yesterday, finishing my dad's 427.  The undisputed king on the dyno was a 40 year old Holley 950 vac secondary 3 barrel, besting a Holley HP 950, Holley 850 and a customized carb from a certain Engine Masters Challenge effort.  The engine specs are from memory here: '64 center oiler, 4.25 crank, 10.6:1 compression, Felony heads w/1.71 exh valves, as-cast ports, 250/.660 custom flat tappet solid, RPM intake.
The carb was last used in 1982 on a 427 low riser, and was shelved.  We made some repairs to gaskets and replaced an entire misbehaving float bowl.  It made 10 HP more than the other carbs, and we forgot to even use the velocity stack on it.  Call the engine 575 HP since the stack would for sure have added at 4 HP.  Torque was over 550

FE Technical Forum / Which block to use: 428CJ or 427 center-oiler
« on: January 18, 2013, 04:56:24 PM »
OK, Barry hasn't returned my call yet, and I just want to get some input on this.  I want 550hp. I would use a 4.25 stroker kit and all new aluminum heads and goodies up top.  I have two blocks: a 428CJ and 427 (C4AE-6015-A) center oiler.  Both are standard bore and in good condition.  Which one should I use??

FE Technical Forum / 66 Fairlane recommendations

We have a Dearborn Classics A-arm/rack&pinion/shock tower delete suspension.  We're looking for advice on;

1. rear sump oil pans (was there ever a factory rear sump? truck/van)
2. headers; full length (not tri-y) with generous radii that take advantage of shock tower delete

Also the rear leafs are rusted nearly through.

We'd like to hear about the good and bad, so we know!

Thanks!

FE Technical Forum / Logo removal - Edelbrock heads
« on: March 18, 2012, 08:15:18 PM »
Milling down just enough to remove the lettering, and leaving as much material as possible surrounding the two bolt holes, can the Edelbrock engraving be safely milled off the face/end of the cylinder head?
