FE Technical Forum / Re: Is there a quiet high volume fuel pump?
« on: October 07, 2016, 10:19:28 PM »
I'm using a Holley blue pump and it is LOUD. Wondering if there is a quieter option out there.

My Carter on my 66 Falcon SW was loud until I bought the isolation kit from Summit....

My 454 TP had aluminum Childs and Albert 6.70 2.20 on a 3.98 Moldex crank when I bought it. Replaced them with Venolia aluminum. Was told they were good for 150 NA runs or 75 runs with power adders. Compression was 14:1 with BRC pistons...

Late too and didn't see what the wheel width was 8", 10"? If you're not having contact on the outer edges I'm thinking the rim may be too narrow (too much air can also be the culprit, but not 12/14lbs). My 10.5 M/Ts are on a 10" wheel, which in my thinking puts the bead in, or close, the vertical plane of the outer edges of the tire...Just a different POV, RodC.

66-67? 66 is based on the Falcon yet shares parts with the Fairlane. 67 is based on the Fairlane and still shares some parts with the Falcon....

FE Technical Forum / Re: Is this block worth grabbing??
« on: September 12, 2014, 08:10:23 AM »
Hey guys,
It looks like this block has had some machine work done. It looks like their saying it was casted that way. Never heard of a cross bolted 428 SCJ, not much info on site. Is this something Holman Moody did after market, looks like typical ribbed service block. Your thoughts.  Thanks

ebay item # 171450020107

It was not cast as a crossbolt block. It is evident by the wide spacers used for the OE 427 main caps. It was machined to accept the spacers...

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Re: Locker problem
« on: June 19, 2014, 07:03:21 PM »
After making any sharp turns it's best to put it in reverse, once you're headed straight and before entering the water-box, back up a few feet and the locker should reset itself, RodC.

Thanks for the help guys. Amazing resource for information.... I'll be back!!!!

...and had GM added a new part number for it's ignition switches with the "slight" differences it wouldn't be in the trouble they're in today,  :o, RodC.

FE Technical Forum / Re: Cutting off exhaust ports?...
« on: May 16, 2014, 05:07:26 AM »
My uncle's 57 Custom had a 63 406 in it and ran a consistent 13.10 with the standard, down turn exhausts (I don't remember if he had the shortys or not). He built a set of headers that were swept up then down out the fenderwells (inner fenders removed of course) behind the tires and went 12.51. This was on the old, hard 7" slicks. With all this talk of modifying FE exhaust ports I'd think if one could back-cut the flange (take a small wedge out of the top) and tilt the flange back to allow the exhaust more upward travel before changing direction we'd be surprised by the results, :). On my uncle's 57 the headers came within an inch from the underside of the tops of the fenders. This kept the 'leaners' from spending too much time looking, "eww, ahh, ew, daamn", :), RodC

FE Technical Forum / Re: 406 timing marks?
« on: February 16, 2014, 12:32:20 AM »
Anybody have a picture of the timing marks on a 62 406?  Mine has a pointer on the front cover and two dots on the balancer but the car runs like crap if I line the pointer on either mark. I'm just wondering if I have the correct balancer or if it maybe slipped on the rubber.

IIRC, the correct 406's pointer, like the 427's, had the degrees stamped on it and the damper had a 'slit' (line) cut into it to set timing, RodC.

FE Technical Forum / Re: O/T - Sorta... Pistons Stuck in Bores
« on: November 20, 2013, 01:07:11 PM »
Thanks much all...

jmlay - I should have mentioned - I have rotated the block over and let Marvell's soak in the bores from the bottom as well...

mackoneman - I didn't mention it above cause I didn't want folks thinking I was nuts - but I thought about hitting it with a rose-bud for a while - but was afraid of the damage to the cylinder walls from the extreme heat.  I'm thinking that I'll escalate one notch with the hammer - and then give the suggestion you posted a shot.  Thanks.

blykins and Rory428...  thanks - I guess you are right - either the block is shot or it isn't.  I'll get them out of there somehow and find out...

Your concern about using a torch may be unwarranted. Cast iron blocks are poured at about 2,800+ F and ignition produces a higher temp. If all else fails maybe try melting the piston out by burning about 1/2" from the cylinder walls to burn the center out. I see no one mentioned the "melted candle trick",  ;), jmo, Rod.

FE Technical Forum / Re: Kustom Headers?
« on: November 19, 2013, 05:06:03 PM »
Mine were the conventional four into the collector. One tube interfered with the z-bar down arm, IIRC, and we simply dimpled that tube (had to do the same on the Hooker Super Comps). My set and your set, plus those I seen at OK Kustom, were the only ones I ever seen.

Love those "Box Tops"! That was my 1st car (63 Boxtop) Had Thorley headers on it. They did not fit all that well. Went to Hookers later which was better. I imagine finging a set of the Kustom tubes for a Galaxie is tough? Heres a shot of the  truck peices...........

My first Galaxie (second car I owned when I was 18yrs old) was a G-code with a LR427. It too had Thorley headers and fit perfectly. Your OK Kustoms are the first, and possibly only other ones I've seen.

Anybody ever heard of Kustom brand headers? I take it they are out of business. Picked up a NOS set for our 70 F100 build. Looks like a nice pair of headers, in fact I have never seen a pair with 1 7/8" prim. tubes & 3.5" coll. before for a FE truck application. The box was the original and AllStar marked on the sides..........

Company was OK Kustom out of Midland or Mid-Michigan-ish. I long for a set for my LWG. I had them on my 63 390 Boxtop in the photo below:
