Non-FE Discussion Forum / FE Race & Reunion Legends voting
« on: April 16, 2024, 11:09:20 AM »
Hey there FE Fans. Here is your opportunity to see who the first three Legends of the FE Race & Reunion are. We simply are honoring some of the Legends of the FE world that have contributed to the FE Race & Reunion (FERR). Contributions include, participating, attending, taking pictures with you, autographs, racing, bench racing, old stories, showing off, sharing a brat, sharing a beer, etc… If they caused you to have a good time and you’ve got great memories of their participation, then please vote for your favorite. The FERR nominating committee has taken a bunch of names and whittled the list down to these seven for this year (2024). Now it’s up to you, to make the final decision. Please click the link below and vote. You have until April 30, 2024 where winners will be announce shortly thereafter. A plaque will be on display and the official naming of the legends will take place on Saturday September 7, 2024 at FERR @ Beaver Springs Dragway. Thank you! https://s.surveyplanet.com/01d9gyze https://s.surveyplanet.com/01d9gyze

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Re: Home and Auto Insurance
« on: April 03, 2024, 11:26:25 AM »
I don't follow home or insurance pricing so this is just my redneck observation. In 1998 my wife and I had our house built in SE Pennsylvania for $158,000. 1-1/2 acre, 2500 sq/ft, 2 car attached garage, well and sand mound. These days they say it's valued at $445,000 and taxes to match. So I'm sure the increase of insurance is to match the current value? That said, our local authorities are those who reassessed the value. Why do they increase? To get more tax money from me. So they raise the taxes and insurance raises their premiums. Should I sell my house then I will pay capital gains. I'd be happy if my house was still considered a $158,000 house.

FE Technical Forum / FE Race & Reunion - rolling on - Update
« on: February 24, 2024, 08:04:57 PM »
Posted on our Facebook group.

Hello there to the faithful FE brotherhood. It's been quite a week. We have worked out a solution to some differences that were between BSD and the FERR. Really just a bit of mis-understanding and some lack of communication. Talking with Mike today was really good and healthy and much overdue. The FE Race & Reunion will go on as planned. We will divide and conquer to make the show better than ever. The best analogy from the conversation. If you have a class reunion there is a committee that plans the food, attendees, music, etc... The facility is owned and operated by the facility owners. Mike will prepare the best track and facility that he can and the FERR group will plan the reunion activities. We still have a lot of sorting and contacts to be made but it's going to be epic. We finally have clear minds and a clear goal by the entire team.  Thank you Mike and crew for all that you do. We all look forward to FERR24. Just a warning to any "chirpers" we will not tolerate any rumors or activity that is not considered positive to the success of the event. This group and Mike's FE group page are for information and enjoyment of the FERR. Any negativity will cause immediate banning from the group. Thank you all! See you all on September 5-7, 2024.

FYI - we are going to be looking at some other opportunities to grow FERR. Possibly a mini-show at other established events? We realize the possible benefits of growing and getting to other locations on occasion. Thank you all who have supported FERR.
Thanks,

Guys,
All great ideas and something we will seriously consider. We were spoiled with the previous track owner as we were able to use his bank account to get things done. We were strictly volunteer because we loved the whole FE idea. Stay tuned is all I can say for now.

Thank you!

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Re: Brake booster test?
« on: February 16, 2024, 09:32:01 AM »
There are several youtube videos showing how to do this.  You'll need a vacuum source, such as a Mityvac hand pump.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZtDhOgdxno

I'll check it out. I did look on Youtube prior to my posts but I get easily annoyed by everyone making a video and having some goofy B.S. introduction. Seems many videos nowadays have at least a 30-60 second intro.

Thanks!

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Brake booster test?
« on: February 16, 2024, 08:05:56 AM »
In 64 years I've never had a need. How would I go about checking a brake booster off the vehicle? I have a new booster in my stash of miscellaneous NOS parts that is for a '78 F150. Ironically I bought a '78 F150 a few weeks ago. I just want to check to see if it works. The truck is not running so I cannot install right now and fire it up.

Trimmed down question: How to bench test a brake booster?

Thanks!

If keeping with the Dewalt 20v line, I would recommend the DCF923B 3/8 impact. Very impressive for the size. I have one at work and once I bought it, I haven't used my Snap-On CT861 again. You may want to shop around. I found a seller on Ebay selling the DCF923B bare tool for $120 and another selling a 2 pack of the powerstack batteries for $85 brand new. Heck of a deal. Just be mindful and use the power settings if needed, because it has plenty of torque to break stuff. It will take lugnuts off easily if not severely overtorqued or extremely rusted.

Thanks Jared, I went with your recommendation.

I forgot to add. I have a bunch of other Dewalt 20v tools and batteries so I’d like to keep with Dewalt.

I'm looking to buy a 3/8" Brushless impact but there seem to be so many "options" What is a good 3/8" compact for working on cars?

Thanks!

Doug, get copies of LMC Ford truck, NPD Ford F series truck and Mac's Ford pickup catalogs.  They will be your friend....especially LMC.  They all helped me tremendously with parts for my '68 F100.
Got one ordered and downloaded.

Thanks!

FE Technical Forum / FE in a '78 F150 4x2

So I picked up this ’78 F150 two wheel drive with an inline six. I’m going to get it running as a classic beater though I probably won’t beat it but it’s not going to be a money pit restoration. I’m not a fan of the ’78-’79 grille so I have a ’77 grille for it. I have the 390 that was in my Fairlane I want to drop in this. I’m not experienced enough on the parts to do this. Since the ’73-‘79’s are lumped together I’m assuming if I got ’73-’76 360 engine mounts that would take care of securing the engine in place? Is it a steel perch frame mount and the isolator to the block? I assume a ’73-’76 360 4x2 oil pan is what I need? Any other potential model pans? I’ll need to find out if the z-bar is different. I expect it to be. Would the frame side pivot bracket be the same as the 6 or different? The block pivot, would it be the same as any FE or is it specific? I have a truck bell and I’ll hope the 4 on the floor that is in it will fit up?
Anyone else drop a FE in a ’77-up? Anything I’m missing.

Thanks,

FE Technical Forum / Re: Header I.D. - 66-67 Fairlane 390
« on: December 30, 2023, 11:17:28 AM »
Doug, if you end up putting them in your Fairlane let me know how long it takes. It takes me 5-6 hours. I like to put some hi-temp RTV inside the collector where the tubes go in. If everything is not lined up perfectly the RTV might stop a leak.

Jim,
They are not going in my Fairlane. Someone inquired about them and made an offer. So I'm probably selling them.

Thanks,

Looking at  the collectors, bends and factoring in the 2” O.D. I would say they are Crites. Mine are old but have the cleaner flanges you mentioned. They should be somewhat soft unless they were made out of varying alloys over the run.

Jim, I think I confirmed them being Crites. A guy on FB Marketplace has a new set for sale with P/N C-11 which correlates to the "11" stamped in mine.

Those headers certainly look like Crites to me.

They do to me as well. Unless these are older. Currently Crites uses individually cut single tube flanges. Not the one flange cut into four sections as the ones show. They may have evolved into the cleaner flanges?
