FE Technical Forum / Hydralic Throwout Bearing Pressure Line
« on: December 12, 2018, 01:05:07 AM »
I will install a McCleod hydralic throwout bearing on my 69 Mach 1 with 428 and 4 speed toploader….just how long of a cable is needed to ready the master cylinder...24 inches or more?

false alarm...replaced the sensor and joy...and that was the sensor the dyno guy used to give me 40...it was pushing 65 with a new sensor....you just cannot make this stuff up.

I just primed the oil pump via the disty...and the guage did not show any pressure...all dashes on a digital and I did not see oil running...I felt the resitance on the drill but no oil flow...

Is my grear fallen low or ...what....

I did see a more cosmetic option..a sandwich adapter...but what one fits....most do not go back to 1969

How would I install a second oil pressure gauge...I believe just connecting a second gauge to the same sensor will provided a reduced reading...but where would I install the second sensor?

as in...place the sensor in the outflow from the intake manifold to the heater through the dash...what do I use as the t section with threads?  Copper pipes behind the engine?

I just got the thermostat housing for the larger thermostat to fit the F427 intake on the 428....but there is not a threaded hole what where I was planning on the thermocouple for the electric fan...any best solutions to where to mount the fan thermocouple....do I drill and thread into the new thermostat housing...the temp sensor hole behind the distr needs to keep the sensor....ideas?

Thanks...those are a bit abused...I will keep looking for a good condition...

BTW, I see the threaded hole is for the dist vacuum advance...is that essential to use that part or direct to the carb tube on the right side...

Second, where does the water temp sensor go...direct to intake....???not sure...

I am not sure what part number to get for the larger thermostat...I have 428 with a 427 Eldebrock intake...and the thermostat housing from NPD 8575-2.  The thermostat I had fit the housing...but way too small for the intake....I installed without a thermostat but suspect I need to install one before I run the engine (really?)...what is the correct part number..and why did it fit the housing and not the intake...do I have the wrong housing?  Please assist.

agree on oil pressure...I confirmed all galley plugs are in....I have the intake off and when I get it back on this weekend...and get the oil pressure guage I will run the drill test.

Not sure what else could be the issue other than the pump...comments?

FE Technical Forum / Advance Timing
« on: October 28, 2018, 08:30:30 PM »
I am about to install the new cam in the 428, I have the 230 @ .050.  Should I advance the timing or go dot to dot.  i am not racing it...but there is a lot of chat on here about 4 degrees....which I believe is rotating the crank about two teeth clockwise...is it worth it...and does it just give the horsepower at a lower speed...I do not race it but still like the idea of a fast street engine...any risks...?

you just cannot make this up...I pulled the cam and despite the builder telling me it was a 218/224 comp cam, the part number I pulled out was a CS1102R, designed for towing with an RPM limit of 4200.  NEVER use L&R in LA.
