Rory,
Here is the flexplate that I have, its just like what Fordman says he has.  I have no doubt that this is a factory piece, maybe 410 only?  Totally unsure.  Checked the Mercury MPC and it only gives the part numbers for the two piece and single piece.

On a 410 I bought, the flexplate had the weight but was solid, did not have the pie cuts.

The vin on the door and radiator support appears to match, but the auto trans hole in the floorboard is making me wondering if there is a body swap?  If so, then why not fix the floor shifter opening?  Not saying it was done, just curious.

I have those on my 68 Montego MX S code Auto (stock except for CJ intake).  Id say there is a little bit more vibration, but not much.  I do feel that the engine feels more responsive, I felt that it was because the poly mounts didnt expand or compress like the factory rubber mounts do.

FE Technical Forum / Re: Coil Mount Location
« on: December 19, 2020, 02:01:41 AM »
My 1975 F150, 390 original A/C truck, had the coil mounted on the compressor mount.  I looked in the MPC, the ignition diagram doesn't show a A/C position, just a  non A/C position, which is the usual mounting on the intake.  But the dealer installed diagram shows the coil going on a A/C bracket.

My buddy bought this from the original owner in the 90's and that's the way it was when he got it cause I thought it was strange, my buddy thought maybe it had something to do with heat since this puts the coil out there in the airstream of the fan.

The trans crossmember differences that I could tell, the big block cars do appear to be 2 pieces of metal stamped together, I have one that I got out of a 250 69 ranchero, and it it was only one layer of metal stamped.

What made me curious was the 6 digit DSO.  Wonder what special order this was?  Blank color code as well.

I went to the aviation Smithsonian near DC.  They had WWI plane engines that were cut aways so you can see the insides.  There was roller cams, over head cams with bevel drives like the old ducatis.  Very fascinating.

Thanks,

FE Technical Forum / Re: 390 still using oil
« on: April 16, 2020, 01:15:43 AM »
I had something similar in my 67 F250 with 390 & NP435.  Taking off, wouldnt smoke, shifted below 2500-3000 it wouldnt smoke either, but higher and it would.  Thought maybe too much oil up top sucking it out the pvc, so I restricted the oil coming up top.  That wasnt it.  Thought valve guide seals, they were a bit hard, but still pliable and all 16 were whole, still replaced with alex's parts positive seal (the ones for factory sized guides).  Same problem.  Just kept driving the truck as it was my only means, so I would just short shift.  Then it started to get worse, it would start to smoke on shifts no matter the RPM, but it was erratic.  Then once in a while, it would throw a bunch of smoke out of the exhaust when I would take off from a stop, I could tell it was going to do it as it would just slightly start to run rough right before it did it.  It was embarrassing to me as it would leave this huge smoke ball that would just linger.  Finally took the valve covers off and it was the intake gasket.  The #3 & #6 intake gasket separated near the top.  Weirdest thing I ever saw.  Fixed it, still smoked a bit, but after a couple months, no smoke.  Like they said before, some residual oil I figure in the exhaust.  In the one picture, you can see the #6 gasket sticking up slightly.

This truck has C6AE-U heads and CJ intake.
