Update: My mechanic friend finally got back to me. Sadly to say, all four cab supports are gone. If it were cheaper, I'd pry still get it, but based on its condition, price and the fact I won't need it for 9 months, I am going to pass on it.

I've linked the Craigslist ad, just in case someone else wants to take a shot at it. Other than the cab supports, it really is in fantastic condition for a rust belt truck and deserves to have a good home.

Thanks, guys.

Unfortunately, I'm 8 hours off so it will pry be another 24 until I know if I get it.

If I do, I'm going to aggressively clean up the undercarriage, and coat that sucker with fluid film http://www.fluid-film.com/ once I'm home.

It IS quite the gem, body and paint-wise. I didn't expect to find something like this around here.

I've been looking for a 1961-1966 F series of Ford trucks, in the hope that I could find an F100 or 250 with a straight body so I could do a 390 FE engine swap.

I was inspired by a neighbor who had a really straight original truck with that combo. He'd cruise my street twice a day going to and from work and I was green with envy with the sight and sound of that beast.

I'm deployed to Afghanistan, but that didn't stop me from searching the internet, esp. in the Southwest, looking for a good deal on a straight body.

Last night, I was searching the web, where I found the exact truck for sale. Not a truck "just like" but the exact. same. truck. My neighbor has moved on to another project so the truck that inspired me, just might end up in my driveway, waiting for me when I get home on leave.

Today, a mechanic friend of mine is going to go look at it, and if it's in the condition I think it is, I will be soon joining the 1965 F250 FE powered Ford Truck family.

It's a recent engine swap, with the NP435 4 speed on the floor, so if anyone needs their house pulled off its foundations, just give me a call.
:D

All the rubber and wear bits are new.

Some pic porn:

My plans are to find some more original looking steel wheels, add fuel, change the oil and basically drive the wheels straight off it.

Once I've driven the engine out of it, I'll stroke it to 445 ci and keep driving it. This is going to be the shop truck for my metalshaping business, so I will try to keep the finish as original as possible, as long as possible.

Hemi Joel - Where are you located? I'm from Newton, Iowa, and I'm pretty sure there are folks where who would be fascinated to know more about your cars. Being the home of Maytag and all that. Though the automobile was originally a Waterloo product.

I will check fan also, it's a flex fan that is riveted to hub. I work away from home all week so I check when I get back home. Thanks guys!

I run a flex on my SBF. After reading several accounts of them grenading, the first thing I do when I get back to the US will be to take it off and replace it with OEM. Might be a good idea regardless.

This looks like a driver, I'd suspect the 750 is just as good as an 850 in the under street rpm range.

Having owned both of each, I have to say, old Holley's are nice, but the new features of QF carbs and the quality of the metal used makes them much more fun to work with.  I don't think I'd ever buy a new carb that wasn't a QF.

Cool. Thanks! Though 525/588 is awful nice "street" for this combo. :)

If someone wants a brand new carburetor, Quick Fuel is my choice.

The HR series can be had in both mechanical and vacuum secondaries and with a choke, which matches the degree of streetability that some guys want.

Used Holleys can be rebuilt cheaply.

Thanks, Brent!

Brent,

If you may; can you discuss why Quickfuel 750, instead of an 850 cfm carb on that particular combo?

Thanks!

Actually, further research reveals this could be a "Super Duty" and someone just replaced the air cleaner lid with an FE one that happened to fit. Am curious, though, about the existence of of the 360 FT.

There was no 360 FT that must be a mistake/typo.

"The 360 cubic inch FE was only used in pickups and other light-duty trucks. There was also an FT version for medium-heavy duty use."

Here is a picture of a non-existent 360 FT in my Dad's old N500. It has the 360 sticker on the air cleaner. Perhaps it's a different series engine altogether?

Here is a really good info link to the Ford GA series of engines.

IMO, Ford got "jobbed" in this case, and I believe the decision not to go GAF actually hurt America's war efforts.

« on: March 21, 2017, 11:21:31 PM »
I think I may have been completely wrong about issue. Just pulled the plugs and found #6 was gummed up so badly there was no gap to jump. Cleaned it up and put it back in and car seems much better. Saw no evidence of water on plugs or the bit I could see in the chamber. Pulled valve covers, and while they definetly show their age, I really didn't see any milky white sludge. There was a bit, but I am wondering it that is from me not getting a good seal when I replaced cover gaskets.
Drove the car around and got temp up, then checked the dipstick. No evidence of water there either.

I had this happen before in a non-FE Toyota engine.

Freaked out when I saw the chocolate milk; after pulling the valve cover, changing the oil and the plugs, never saw it again.

Are you from Afghanistan or just working overseas?

I'm working there, temporarily.

I also belong to a Land Cruiser forum, and this is Land Cruiser heaven, so there's tons to talk about in reference to the vehicles.

FEs and Cobra replicas... meh, not so much. ;)

Where do you work? That does not look like anywhere in America. The street is far too unorganized.

Lovely Herat, Afghanistan.

Yesterday was a dust storm and today was a rain storm. In a couple days it will be hotter than blazes.
