FE Technical Forum / Motor mounts
« on: February 01, 2021, 07:10:39 PM »
Hello forum members. Putting together a 67 or 68 390 and came to the task of putting on the motor mounts. If it would have had the old mounts on it I wouldn't be asking this stupid question, but I have a new set of mounts with 2 mounting holes in each.       Question,       which way does the mount go? There are two ways for it to mount, with the body of the mount facing forward from the holes or does the mount face to the rear of the engine when mounted up? Hope this is clear enough.   Thanks,  Bud

FE Technical Forum / Re: 1964 427 cast iron header gasket question
« on: August 29, 2020, 09:44:43 PM »

I put my 428 in my 63 fastback with the cast iron long tube headers in place but left them loose but I had 2 of my Buddies helping, one to guide around the clutch linkage and one to wiggle things down in place. The best part was when we finished and out came the beer!

Does anyone make a heavier duty sway bar for the 63-64 Ford Galaxie?

FE Technical Forum / 63 1/2 500XL bucket seat
« on: July 09, 2020, 05:05:53 PM »
I also posted this on Ford Muscle Car Forum

While I have my bucket seats and console out for new carpet, I decided to take the rear insert off of the drivers side bucket seat. What I found was a piece of 1/8 inch tempered hardboard in very deteriorated condition that has the vinyl and a thin piece of fiberglass looking insulation glued and stapled to it. It is held to the seatback by 9 door panel clips....... Question, is this the original setup that came from the factory, or someones 'better idea' when they replaced the original piece of whatever was there from the factory?  I'm hoping one of you 63 1/2 500XL owners will chime in that may have changed out the original upholstery for replacement
Thanks for reading this and hopefully responding to it.    Bud in Winslow Az

FE Technical Forum / driveshaft question
« on: June 21, 2020, 05:45:54 PM »
Last year I had a new driveshaft built for my 63 fastback 390 with a T-10 4speed. If I swap the T-10 for a toploader 4speed, will the new driveshaft fit up to the toploader?

I had a 75 f 100 long bed that had a 360 in it. Our local Mac Tool guy had bought a 428 out of a t-boned  66 Mercury Marauder. He kept it in the corner of his garage covered up. I finally talked him into selling it to me for I can't remember what, but I took it to the local machine shop and had it rebuilt and put a nice torquer cam in it and had Lopers Speed shop in Phoenix do the heads and hardened seats for me. Ran 93 octane in it with a Edelbrock vari-jection set-up on it (if you can remember those) and a set of Doug Thorley headers. Was one of the best trucks I ever had. I had a 8 1/2 foot cabover camper that would be put on during the summer months and it didn't hardly phase the performance whatsoever. Yeah,, wish I still had that one too.                 Bud

One thing I learned in my teens when I had a 66 ranchero 4 speed 289 4 bbl was, If you're gonna do a burnout,,,,, take the slack out of the powertrain. I noticed he backed up and didn't take out the slack. good way to bust a ujoint or worse. I learned real fast 'cause my dad didn't pay for it I DID!

There is a place in Carson City NV that supplies parts for 60-72 Ford Galaxies. They have a 2 piece shroud listed for 60-64. Maybe call and ask if it is for FE engines. 1eighthundred 72two 000nine Concours Parts.

3in1 oil!  That's what kept the bearings in the blower housing of my swap coolers lasting forever.

As evidenced by the 2019 Galaxie Gathering in Cedar Rapids Iowa there are still a lot of Galaxies out there in this Galaxie. There are also a lot of Galaxies that aren't running or being restored like mine.
All of the parts suppliers and companies that reproduce parts for our Galaxie 500's and 500XL's help to keep these great lookin' cars in fine trim.   But the one thing I have yet to find is someone that reproduces the bucket seat trim.
Has anyone in the Ford Galaxie field ever done a search for possible companies that might stamp these thin aluminum parts out?  I know my 500XL sure needs some reproductions! When I purchased my Galaxie back in 1980 there were a couple of places to get this stuff, but it was NOS and hit and miss on availability. I  kick my big arse for not looking ahead back then and buying 2 kits, but my hindsight was 20-20 like it is now.
I will continue to search and hope to the point of desperation that some company will show up.
If anyone one of you Galaxie or Ford Fe members do have or find any info on this subject PLEASE post it for the Galaxie community to take advantage of.    Thanks for readin' this,  Bud Roberts

Wow, Thanks for all the replies. I went to my NAPA store and he said he could get me a 7527F by Fri morning says it has the mounting tabs on each end. 147bucks  plus an old core
Funny I was looking at 27F batteries for my application and not a single site said that it was the correct application for my Galaxie. Most said 24F. So go figure. I know a 27F will fit with the specs and measuring my new carrier.    Thanks again    Bud
