Any progress Jay?

Thanks Bill, that confirms what I'm thinking. I'm building another FE for her right now but it is going slower than I'd like so trying to hold this one together until I finish it as my truck is my daily.

FE Technical Forum / Oil pressure indicating an issue, or is insignificant?
« on: September 18, 2017, 08:43:28 PM »
So to start off, be aware that this is a well seasoned short block that has seen many miles. I replaced the oil pump this weekend to either band-aid an issue, or fix a bad oil pump (I was assuming the former). After replacing the pump I now have good pressure all the time (as measured by an AutoMeter Sport-Comp mech gauge).

I noticed an odd fluctuation today. If I am cruising at 2500 RPM or so she'll be running about 60 psi oil pressure. If I accelerate even just a little the pressure will drop 2-3 psi. As soon as you let up it will jump back up.

My only thought is the crank moving in the bearings and opening up the clearance, but I've never had more than a factory gauge so not used to having this level of accuracy and so I thought this may also just be insignificant.

Hey TimeWarpF100, you live near me, I'm in Tempe.

I am in Phoenix not far from 101~Tatum

You have a '65 F100? Dont think I have seen it around.

Yes I have a '65.  Haven't made any of the car shows or anything in about 5 years, used to go to the Pavillion's all the time, and the Mesa Cruise Night before that got shut down.  Currently I only have time to commute between Tempe and Camelback & 40th.  :-P

Nice score, congrats! It needs some nice shiney chrome wheels to dress it up. :-*

I've got a 66 F100 352 4 speed that I've had for 28 years. I put chrome rangers on it and a chrome front bumper and it really improved the looks .

Agreed, I have polished US Indy's on mine, love how it looks, even with the rough paint.

The only reason I brought up the T5 is that he's looking for a junkyard piece.

I would imagine a T5 out of a 80's Mustang would work with a Modern Driveline adapter plate as I believe it is the same bolt pattern and input shaft as my Tremec 3550.  I would worry about fragility as I think even the "World Class" was only rated for 325 ft-lbs of torque.  I worry about that in my 3550 as well as it is only 375.

They look like tree stabilisers to me.

Your gearing change is just over 10% while you're enlarging the tire diameter by  about 8%.  This will leave you with a change on the starting line of about 2%.  It would be like having a 4.19 gear with your current 27" tire.  So yes, they would largely cancel each other out, while still leaving a minor change.

What are you putting that in?  Specifically looking at the headers.  Planning on doing fenderwell headers on my truck, but they have to come horizontal of the heads not straight, otherwise I would think that is your plan.  They look sweet.

I will check fan also, it's a flex fan that is riveted to hub. I work away from home all week so I check when I get back home. Thanks guys!

I run a flex on my SBF. After reading several accounts of them grenading, the first thing I do when I get back to the US will be to take it off and replace it with OEM. Might be a good idea regardless.

The new Engine Masters in MTOD came out today and they ran different mechanical fans on an engine to see which took the most horsepower to run.  I don't want to run the fun of watching it but some of the designs sapped significant horsepower.  Obviously they didn't test it, but electric is the way to go for saving horsepower.
