My brother has been pulling with it since day one, it was his everything truck for years. About 15-20 years ago he started modifying it into a purpose built puller, first Super Stock now Pro Stock.

There are 7 serious pullers in his class in the Montana area, not to mention Idaho and Utah pullers. All are in the 1200+ hp range.

He ended up 2nd overall in Bridger. They pull twice and add the footage. He missed 1st by 1.2 inches. 3 Fords and 3 GM's competed. One Ford w/Jon Kaase built power and one GM both lost a rear end on the first pull. Must be contagious, now his rear is broke. Lost it in Havre Saturday. Now the stress is on to get a set of gears in time for the NHRDA pull in Billings this Saturday. They welcome the Gassers too.

You can't see the truck for the dust but you can hear it, what a beautiful sound! 1st place out of 5 trucks.

I guess I'd say, "All's well that ends well."

KS

Agreed, we are just happy to pull again.

Second pull of the day. 3rd place, got a lazy launch, hit the rev limiter and nosed over for a split second. Changed out the gear set, went up a whole ratio for his next pull. Would like to gear it for 8500-8800. Pulled up the recall on his tach, 9100, not cool.

Will start a new thread on his pull this weekend. I don't have the video yet or the particulars but 368' 1st place at Havre, MT yesterday. Out the gate, off the track and climbing a hill, Lol.

First pull of the season with the rebuilt engine. Running good, 1st place pull (of six trucks) even with an early shutdown due to the berm in his way.

The lovely sound of 15:1 compression idling....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9iv5Ygc-7s

Made 1201 hp @ 8500 with 817 lb-f of torque with this 556ci BBF yesterday.

On that video, the pull took a little longer than it should have and we actually dead-headed the pump.  That's why it sounds flat at the very end.

Update:

Local builder has this ready to install in the truck. Full 565 now, class maximum. 1268@8000 and 903@6800 now, so more cubes helps. The builder is booked about a year in advance so it took awhile to reach our turn. Hoping for a good pulling year. Cant figure out how to post the dyno sheet.

Pay attention to the news on the '23 Super Duty, sounds amazing. New SO/HO similar to Ram only better. Ram limits the HO to the 3500, Ford offers it in the F-250.

6.7 turbo, SO has 450/1050, HO is 500/1200 Also offers the 10 spd in the Cab Chassis up to and including the F-600. Also, on board weight scales offered, Nice!

6.8/7.3 gassers as well.

My oldest son bought the '69 Ford Highboy ($3250) my brother will pull the hydraulic bale retriever off and sell it to some local rancher. We will do a meet and greet somewhere about half way. Northern Colorado or South Wyoming.

'70 F-100 4x2 $1k, '76 F-100 4x4, engine was dead $900, '75 F-250 4x4 $3k, Vintage Wayne gas pump $1k.

I told my brother I would bid $1500 on the Power Wagon so a scrapper didn't get it. That didn't buy the spare tire,  ;D. It went for $7k and they drove it around.

So, so much farm equipment. Must have been a dealer or was given a ton of it by farmers pulling out.

No dealer, just an old farm/ranch with a large collection/bone yard. I worked for the owner in the late 60's, when I was in high school. He was fresh out of the Army and took it over from his father-in- law. Probably started in the early 40's.

So, I drove some of that old stuff. One of the Jeep pickups, the '54 Ford F-250 and an IH pickup. If I recall, the '54 had a 272 y block in it. In the description, the '59 Ford is an old cop car. I have a lot of round trips in his wheat fields on one of the old LA Case tractors. They were big and old and could really pull, but were gas hogs.

My brother still lives in the area so he sent me the flyer. Good memories of the good ole days. Since there are about a dozen old Fords, I thought I would share.

I would not reassemble anything without checking the bad hole. Generally, it is wishful thinking, for something simple, with that much oil use. Almost always a piston, especially if it is cast aluminum. They don't stand up to pre-ignition, something the FE's are subject to, over several years of use.

I can't help on the 1/4 mile times but as a sled puller engine it is a fine combo. Mine is a 428 but built very similar to your build including the carb. I did use stock ED heads with stock non adjustable valve train.

I received a lot of hate on the cam and stock valve springs but it works and will not break.

I have about 35-40 pulls on the combo. Never once did I not pull for any reason.

I didn't have the power of the big block 385's but it was so dependable, that at the end of the season, I was the winner of my class in '15 and '16.

Genuine Jake Brakes. I don't recall now, but it seems like the Dynatard  started with the Maxidine?

Cool truck! I hauled a lot of logs in a B-Model w/205 Thermodyne and 5x4. Then upgraded to an R-Model w/237 and same quadraplex tranny. They both had Jakes.

My son just ordered one in a F-250, no frills model with leather but carpet delete. Extended cab, 4x4, short bed, 4.30 gears, locker, 10 spd and cab lights. I think a supercharger is in it's future, Lol.

OK, lt me get this right- but of course, I am just another unwashed heathen from the peanut gallery, in your devine opinion lol. This is not your engine, but your brother's, who seems to be getting along pretty well with Brent, including a very recent phone call- but you choose to call him out on a public forum, and then proceed to toss insults at any unworthy peasants who comments- the "unknowing". Yeah, OK, over the years I have seen many examples of "mechanic's attitude"- from age 5 on up. Since you think it is soooo impressive, I didn't build my first complete engine by myself, until 1965, a Wisconsin V4HD, 24hp. Gramps had an International truck n tractor dealership, so yeah, tractors are us- IH, Deere, Ford mainly, gas n diesel, then later Caterpillar. That and 5 bucks will get me a cup of Joe at Starbucks- who cares lol... Spent enough time as a General Engineering foreman dealing with Godlike tractor mechanics to get a bit jaded. Also did some pulling with my own early 77 highboy with a 427 LR, while my buddy was running an Algon-injected 454 High Riser. Helping him now with his Pro Modified truck with the 672 ci 460, ran a couple weekends ago to get a 2nd, actually had it won until the 1st puller, who he had beaten by 25 ft., took his re-pull and won by 2ft- c'est la vie! That's French, BTW. You seem to be having great fun mouthing off to a bunch of pretty good people, and I imagine I will be your next victim, but those who know me will tell you IDGAF, so do your worst  ;)

I toss insults, where? In what way did your post contribute (other than barbs) to the welfare of this thread. If I have seen one I have seen a 100 threads go south from this type of posting.

I am mouthing off to a bunch of pretty good people? In report writing classes, the subject was to include the what, where, when, how and why. Please explain using the format my insults and mouth. I don't recall any, however, others...not so much.

Experts (400 inmates) have tried to get a rise out of me with verbal and physical attacks. The verbal I just smile and say thank you. The physical was taken care of with the least amount of force.

So if this thread goes south if won't be from me taking the bait.
