You guys don't seem to be very excited about this event. To me it seems to be very good event at least quite a lot of Hype. And it is also a NMCA event so there should be a lot of action on the dragstrip. Car shows are very boring at least to me. I am riding along with my friend and he is bringing his 69 Torino Cobra 428 to hopefully sell.  8)

Drag Week 2015 / Re: Guess Jay's best e.t. for Drag Week 2015!
« on: September 14, 2015, 06:21:51 PM »
Somewhere in the high 8.80's. It takes a whole lot of power to get a car that big and heavy to get well into the deep 8's.

Just mentioning that the difference between a good footbrake launch and a transbrake launch is on that much difference although it mght look like it is because of maybe a wheelie. Just want to say Hi and good luck to Jay and his (trunk monkey). Keep the good work up and hope to see you guys at Union Grove. We are coming over there to watch. 8)

Drag Strip Results for FE Powered Vehicles / Re: 62 gal.
« on: May 29, 2015, 10:27:37 PM »
I bought a brand new 63 boxtop that I ordered with a 352 and a 4 speed.  Big mistake as it was in my opinion slow and didn't get good mileage either. But as most know hindsight is usually 20 20. When I ran this car at Minnesota Dragways in 63 these are the only mods made on it. I had my neighbor weld a I think it was 2 inch pipe coupling to each down pipe that I just used a pipe wrench to screw in a pipe plug. ;D I put a pair of clamps on the front part of the springs to keep the axles from bouncing. I bumped the timing up a bit too. The rear was stock one wheel wonder 3.40 I believe. I did wedge the front springs a bit. 8)tires were what came on it narrow bias plyed 14 inch things. It was all stock even down to the 2 barrel motorcraft carb that came on the 220 hp rated engine. I remember they put me in J stock at the time. It went 16.70's at 86 and 87 mph. I thought that was pretty lame as my 57 292 went about the same BUT at the time the national record was only about 3/4 of a second faster. ;D. And those cars had headers and good tires and better gears. I had to drive mine 160 miles one way to the strip and back home again. :o It would have been fun if I had , had some money to put headers on it and gears and some kind of a traction unit. Just a distributor recurve would have helped too. Like I said I really didn't like the car (The fastbacks came out about a month after I ordered mine) and I tried to blow it up by driving it to the valve float point and it would backfire and ya just couldn't hurt it. :o

I have a Jomar stud girdle on my 385 and it is a very good product. I can go through a full season and the adjustment doesn't change on the valves virtually at all. JMHO they make good products.

FE Technical Forum / Re: 390 Stroker on the Dyno

I have a pair of generic holley 600 carbs that I modified many years ago to have mechanical secondaries. And if these don't work I will have to rebuild them and give them a try. I ran this engine with these edelbrocks on my test stand and they started and idled fine. But haven't dynoed this thing yet. I will have to ask Ron if he has a set of  holleys or maybe even use my one 750 and buy another one as it is just a 3310 750.

Thanks for the comeback if I go this route I will do some work on them  with my cartridge roll like you have mentioned. I just don't want to screw them up as I understand that they work very good out of the box. And I have heard horror stories about folks grinding and reshaping where they shouldn't. :o

I just read this post and enjoyed it very much. Now I have a question how do you think, or have you ever tested a similar combo with Edelbrock 750 carbs?  I have a combo much like this one only with more compression and a flat tappet cam and I have put the 750 edelbrock carbs on it for the "nostalgia" look that I am aiming for with my 466 (385 series) engine that is going into my 63 this summer. I know its not an FE but I do the best I can with the limited budget that I have to live with. :(. I guess I am asking how much hp am I going to lose with the 750 ed's versus a pair of generic 750 Holley's.

If I go this route I will most likely sell them to my brother as he bracket races a 460 powered fox mustang. Or remove the iron cobrajet heads that I have on another 466 (.030) I have and use them on that. Lots of options. 8)

Joe as your reputation for a porter has been  excellent I have a question for you about a P51 Kasse cylinder head. Have you ever ported one of these heads? I am considering buying a set for my 545.  I already have the Kasse redesigned "super cobra jet" heads that were sold before the P51 design. These with a what is called a "pocket porting job" by the gentleman that does some very good work in our area. What kind of cfm could expect from a set of these (the P51's) with a full port job? I am 74 and will not compete forever but still am able to have fun and even win sometimes. LOL. I know you do the Mummert heads for some of the Y block guys as I have always been a booster of these engines as I had a lot of fun with mine years ago. But I now seem to really like my 385 series engines for their economy of build. I also had a 390 in my fairlane but the FE's are just too expensive for me to build one with a decent block as I would never use a stock block to build the power that I am used to now. By the way my 57 that weighed over 3700 lbs went 12.09 with a 125 shot of NOS with my home built 304 Y block that I did the home porting on a set of unposted ECZ G cylinder heads. I also built the tunnel ram for it a fun job with my MIG welder. Now I have a TIG so just have to teach myself how to use that Then I can use aliminum to save a little weight 8).

Non-FE Discussion Forum / New carpet for my 77 F100
« on: February 16, 2015, 10:30:27 PM »
I just bought a new carpet for my 77 F100 short box and needless to say it came folded up in a box. Any ideas how to get the fold creases out of this carpet. I was thinking about using a hair dryer on the back side and a friend at our car club mentioned getting it wet on the folds and leaving something on them over night. Just looking for something that might work. These came from LMC truck if that makes any difference. :-\

There is a certain very beautiful 67 fastback mustang in our twin cities area that looks like it might be powerful. It has what appears to be a well warmed over FE in it. Well guess what? It has those freaking flat manifolds on it. Next year if I see the darn thing I am going to say something to the extent that it spoils the whole car for me.  >:(
