Common problem but never seen it that far out before.I machined 1/8 spacers for both my Mustangs to balance things out..

FE Technical Forum / Re: Valve Adjustment Advice Needed
« on: September 27, 2025, 02:01:33 AM »
I have a very simple way and have done it for decades.. Put the engine a TDC. I  tighten all the adjusters to zero (spin the push rod and feel it). Turn the engine over by hand aprox a 1/4 turn and set adjusters to zero.I run my fingers across the rockers. I continue doing this for a two full rotations until I am back at TDC. I now crank the adjusters down for the correct preload..I use this method on all hyd. Solids is different...I have never had to reset a hyd lifter..

I have a comp 270S in my 427 68 Fastback. It's a road car. Cam used to be called a VDM when i installed it in 88. Engine is mild but easily revs to 6400.In 88 there was not a lot of options for FE parts..I have changed alot since then but the 270S is still in it..Cory

Lares (US Company) sells brand new ones. I have one in my 67. They are not expensive. Summit sells them as do others... 1/3 the cost of Flaming River boxes....Cory

I have a 427 FE 68 Fastback. Guessing you will have problems with 1" spacers. Find some pent roof covers. Ansen makes tons or some vintage Cobra lemans. I have one inch spacers on the my real GT 350R covers on my hyd roller 289 in my 65. They use the same bolt pattern and i used studs...Cory

I don't know but, usually when a guild seizes, it stays seized, because it galls.

I also think that the lifter has bottomed out, to brake the ball off the PR. I'd take a close look at the coil bind and retainer clearance.

It would also be a good idea, to use a endoscope in that cyl, to see if the valve hit the piston.

Agreed........

Pic says rockers are all adjusted.. Whats up with #7 cyl. Jam nut is almost flush and all the others are 3 or 4 threads down..
I agree with Joe....could be grabbing valves..     Cory

Rory... the 68 is not running a Blaster 2F just a regular blaster mounted vertical. The 66 CJ Mustang I did has a Painless harness in it with a blaster 2F and it came with a resister..I have 17,000 miles on the the 68 with a full 12V running the Duraspark...I have not had a failure yet

I have the 16-1 box in my 67 mustang Trans Am replica. I have it manual tho. The box is worn out and I didn't want a rebuilt box. Its just a crap shoot as are flaming river box. I found a company in the states that makes brand new ones and no core charge. It's made by Lares and available from Summit. They are good as well. It fit perfect and has zero free play( the tag is my work).. I have EPAS steering in the car as well..

The common part/tag # for the 16-1 box is SMB-K. SMB-F is the Q/R box but the only thing different is the tag.

Hey Rory...generally use a MSD blaster 2F. It has the correct terminals for the horseshoe clip..If the cars have monte carlo bars I use a standard top Blaster and run the harness inside the monte carlo bar.....Cory

You have be careful with the Blaster coils..MSD wants some of them to be vertical mounted only..

I do have the wiring schematic I got back in the 80's with the Ford SVO duraspark wiring harness. I will dig it out tomorrow and scan it. They do not say anything about a resister. I have had the same blue strain box in my 68 since the mid 80's..Not saying I am right but I have never had a failure in 40 years and I have a huge pile of Duraspark stuff for a reason. I always fire mine of the I terminal on the solenoid.... Cory
