FE Technical Forum / Re: Starter

Thanks guys at least I have a couple of ways to go. I was running the solenoid on starter with the S terminal on fender, switching it to the starter side of solenoid makes sense Doug. When I took the wire from the S terminal off I had good power there again.

With the ethanol in the fuel these days if you leave it sit for a while like over the winter it definetly will clog up orifices in carb. While I was doing motor a few years back got everything back together and could get it to run right. Took line off regulator and pumped it into a jug and it was like turpentine. That was only a year your saying 3 years that’s a lot. Doug’s right run the carbs dry if it’s gonna sit for 4 months or so.

So I’ve had a power master starter for like 3 years but I keep putting the original ones in because it always seemed like every time I would need a starter I only would have a day or so because i was going somewhere with car and didn’t want to do any wiring that would be a problem at the track. Well I needed one again and it was after I got motor back in car and I haven’t been driving it because of fear of getting stuck when hot soak. So this past weekend I put the PM 9506 in. I was reading up on wiring and you can leave it like stock and just run jumper wire from bat wire on the starter to the solenoid on starter. But watched some videos saying to switch it to like a GM. Take the main starter wire that goes on the solenoid on fender and put it to the hot side of solenoid and run a wire from S wire on fender solenoid to solonniod on starter and it makes the solenoid which is always a problem ( because they don’t make them like they used to) work a lot easier because it’s not seeing the load jump anymore. Well I tried it that way and turn key nothing. Checked power at fender solenoid S wire and barely lite up a cheap test light. Didn’t have time to figure it out so I just put it back to stock with jumper and it started right up. I’m fine with leaving it like this but would like to know why that happened. Anybody had this problem.

Just watched a bunch of videos on mufflers. Jones max flows,,magnaflows,,flowmasters 40s,,Borla pro XP’s and the cheap Jones mufflers make the most horsepower. The borlas which look the best and if you are gonna make a nice stainless exhaust on our nice cars you would probably like to look and the borla or magnaflows but they are down 10 horsepower from the Jones mufflers. But the Jones look like crap. So I am about to make an exhaust and I’m not sure I could look at the Jones mufflers.
