FE Technical Forum / Re: base timing
« on: June 30, 2024, 01:32:34 PM »
I had a heck of a time figuring what was going on Why it would run rough when it got Op/TP . With the wire from the relay and the OE wire hooked up it runs great even when warm. It gets 13. volts at coil.I saw a couple of videos of people that got the volts from accessories.

Hi I replaced my OE dist for a Pertronix ignitor 3 with a firestarter 3, Pertronix recommends you either replace the pink resistor wire from ign switch or use their relay which is just a relay connected to POS coil. I couldnt find pink wire so went with relay. The coil needs 12 volts, that I tapped from the wiper motor. The problem is no spark so I hooked up the OE wire that goes to +. The 390 runs fine @ 18* Has anyone had this situation before .  . Car is a 1966 galaxie . Total timing is 32*

After several days I think I have come up with good fix. I installed a 12 volt wire to the coil using a relay. Pentronix recommends this. I also ramped up the initial timing to 18. I have driven it and am convinced this will do the trick. Im still gonna play with the timing to find the sweet spot. I appreciate the advise.

The engine is a 390, just rebuilt by a good machine shop. Pretty much stock. RV cam, It ran good for a couple of weeks then got a petronix ignitor 3 dist. I installed another carb dist and coil. But the same results. When engine is operating temp it will die or try to.

I have a recent new rebuilt 390. The engine starts fine when cold but as soon as it gets to operating temp it runs rough and wants to die. Ive had a holley and an Edlebrock carb with same results. Does any one have  any ideals.

The motor just cuts out no back fire and stepping on gas pedal dosnt do any thing. I have to coast to stop then wait for around 5-10 minutes  to restart. I know this isnt vapor lock cause it only happens at around 50 mph. The tank is clean and line is clear.

FE Technical Forum / frame off
« on: May 02, 2021, 01:46:23 AM »
Hi Im replacing the frame on my 66 Galaxie 500. I got the frint clip off but dont understand how to undue the 4 bolts  under fire wall. The  nuts on top dont offer enough grip for socket. Question is how do you get the bolts from there and all the others. Any help would be appreciated.
