if any of the ports only have 1 bolt they 'will' leak at some point in the future. i've 'slotted' all 4 port flanges before so all the bottom bolts can be started then slip the header down onto them.
neil.
A couple ports have 1 upper bolt with at least a side bolt, most have upper and 2 side bolts. 2 ports upper, lower and a side.

Yes, it had c8ae-h heads with stock exhaust manifold, now trick flow with FPA headers.

I guess that shop i went to for a tun-up and adjustments was trying to get more money. I'll check around to see where else I can bring it. I can't hear any leaks on the headers. Thanks

Trick Flow, I think there are 12 bolts per head. It;s the bolts on the bottom that are hard to get to.  I just looked a pic of the heads, seem to be 16 per side

FE Technical Forum / Sorry, another question about header bolts.
« on: May 22, 2026, 02:07:37 PM »
66 Comet, 390, 4 speed, fpa headers I did some work on my engine, put the engine back in then I put the headers in. Well, I couldn't get quite a few header bolts back in. I was thinking if I left the bell and tranny on I could pull the engine enough to get the bolts on. I was planning to leave the engine on the hoist as I put the bolts in, and the engine still in the engine bay. I really don't want tp pull the engine completely out because it's only about 3-4 bolts on each side. Does that make sense??? I took my engine to get it tuned and the carb set but the guy said the header bolts have to be in for the work. The headers don;t leak as far as I know and they sound fine. Well, anyway.....  Also thank you to all that helped me get the parts I needed and get my engine back together, it runs great!

I have a 66 Comet 4  speed, stock radiator 445 which was overheating. I put these Spal fans in with the senders 185 and the other 190 degrees and in the 3 months that I've ran them never overheated.    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E7RMQJE?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_7   I searched around and got the same ones on a different site cheaper.

I have a 66 comet with FPA heads, 4 speed with borgeson power steering, was manual. The FPA headers fit with no modifications

I ordered 2-3 cam pins from Mcmaster and they came back different from the advertised size and were too loose. I got what I needed at a machine shop.

Congrats on quitting for 3 years. You still have to be careful, I quit in 2002 and at 3 years sober I had to struggle for a while to maintain sobriety. I drank very hard for 10 years and the last year I needed vodka in the morning to make it till the liquor stores opened at 9am. I was drinking at least 2 fifths a day on the last year and barely ate and instead drank slim fast to get some kind of nutrients in me. Went to 4 rehabs till the last one took, my liver enzymes were very high and am very lucky that I check out fine now. I am writing this incase anyone is struggling now and thinks that they are too far gone...you aren't, you can still make it.
