FE Technical Forum / Re: What did I buy? "1958 360 FE and C6"

"Survey says:"  1971 something.  The emissions tag is mostly present, and says conforming to 1971 standards.  Unfortunately, one of the missing spots is right before the still visible "CID" text.  Looks like I need to coat-hanger the cylinder and roll it over to check stroke.  It looks completely unmolested.  I'll be firing it up this week and running a compression check.

I AM interested in fixing the 427.  The freeze cracks are all from the water jacket out, not into the cylinder.  The rearmost headbolt bolt hole is cracked into the threads, and the crack extends around the rearmost portion of the water jacket and into the valley.  I was getting water in the oil.  I am picking the 427 up from my builder on Thursday and can post photos then.

Here's the intake part number I received last night.  Looking like a '69+. Anyone able to refine it further off that?

I am picking it up on Thursday or Friday, so I'll let you all know what I find.  He repeated more than once "58 Ford", so I'm guessing it was swapped in at some time.  I didn't even ask if it was car or truck.  I figured I couldn't lose.  A 2bbl 352 is just about bottom of the FE barrel, and anything else is a bonus.

FIRST!  I know there were no 360's in 1958.

I just paid $200 sight unseen for a running takeout from a '58 Ford that was billed as a 1958 360. I've asked for head and intake casting #'s, the 2 easiest to see, and will get them this evening.  I'd have just written it off as a mis-labeled 352 if it is really a '58, but it has a 2V manifold, and Wikipedia (I know, so sue me) only shows 4V in '58.  As I see it, it could be almost anything, and as long as it runs, I don't really care.  In the mean time, lets see if we can sleuth this out...

1) Were there 2V 352's in '58?  I had never even heard of a 332 prior to this, I thought those were Y-blocks.
2) What other casting numbers would be a giveaway as to what it is, and are easy to see that I could ask for without being too much of a pain to the guy?
3) The "C6" has a flanged output, not a slip yoke.  Is that a clue for year or application?  Mopar went away from that in cars around 65.  Not sure on Fords.  Also, I thought C6 started in 1966...
4) The carb sits on the thick PCV spacer, that makes it at least late 60's, right?

The '63 427 in my dad's boat cracked the block in 3 places and we just want to get it back on the water to tow the kids around.  All of the mounts and engine plates are vintage Edelbrock pieces for an FE, so that's what we need to swap in.  HP isn't really important for this one.

If all else fails, this setup will go as a complete unit into my '62 F500 Ramp truck project to get it mobile again.
