MeanGene, I might take you up on one of those carbs. It's still stuck. Pretty sure it's the plates rusted in the holes as there was evidence of mice. I'm going to try the CRC next. If that doesn't work, maybe some weak acid. Patience is wearing thin and if there's a bunch of corrosion in the bores, carb might be junk anyway.

Thanks, gentlemen! Yeah, I know it's not correct but the date matches perfectly with the car. It's not a numbers matching deal anyway so the appearance of originality is all I'm looking for. The guys I hang with are more into chrome than correct but I guess they appreciate the effort.
One more question...Are the plate screws staked and will there be any issues removing them?  Thanks again!

I have this 4100 carb. This thing is complete and untouched. I want to use it on period correct 66 Fairlane GT S code. The only issue is the secondaries are stuck. Been soaking in Kroil for a week but no go. Any thoughts on this?  It's a really nice carb and I don't want to screw it up.  Thanks!

"A lot of the truck guys are cheap." LOL! Kinda sums this whole deal up. I guess I'll stick it together as planned and see what happens.
Thanks,gentlemen!

Ross, pin height and crowns are the same on all 8. It is a temp motor till we can come with something more exotic. I'll try to talk the owner into cutting the deck. Duck...Yeah,there is a slight difference in that area. 360 pistons AND rods on a 390 crank?

Making a 390 out of a 360. Upon disassembly of the 360 (99% sure it's never been touched before),we found these pistons...6 marked 360,1 marked 3904V, 1 marked the elusive 3604V. Pistons all the same. Thoughts?  Anyway, it's a budget deal, block really decent standard, nice reconditioned 390 crank and rods. The 360 pistons are about .035 in the hole. Will that work with D2 heads?  Thanks!

Working on this basket case 67 Fairlane, installing the headlights. High beams on top or bottom? Two prong bulb high? I should know this but it"s been a long time.   Thanks!

Thanks, gentlemen! These heads came off wrecked trucks many years ago when salvage yards still had this kind of stuff and were in surprisingly good shape. The guides aren't perfect but not needing replacement. The valves are already ground and I plan on doing a slight lap on the exhaust to see how they look, retaining as much hardness as possible. The DIY thing always comes into play with me,not out of necessity but principle. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes not. Probably never use the heads anyway but it's something to do.

After doing some research, the general consensus is Fram FV178 pcv for lower vacuum engines. It does work in my situation and enabled carb tuning which wasn't the case with the valve I was using. It does seem that it's not necessarily the vacuum the engine holds at desired idle speed but the volume of air pumped to maintain that vacuum that dictates what valve works.

I have several sets of 70s truck heads in decent shape. I would like to touch up the valve seats. Been looking at Neway seat cutters. The videos look like it's a straight forward deal. I would appreciate any thoughts on this. Not trying to put any machinists out of work but local shops are backed up and would like to give this a shot. Thanks!

Bringing this back up...Have basically the same situation as cleandan. 390,new build (not mine). Don't know the specs but seems to have a street performance cam,Ed's,Perf RPM. Has about 13" vacuum at idle. Runs and idles great with PCV plugged. The owner supplied new PCV is basically open at idle when connected. Might be defective. How can you tell? There are no spec charts for these things. Does anyone have a part number for something that would work in this situation?  Thanks!!

The owner says the pick up came with the pan so I'm assuming that's not an issue. The pan looks like an original type with about 2 1/2 inch extension on the sump which,to me,looks like a 7 quart. Probably never really know but I'm going to call it 7. Really wanted to avoid draining the oil and measuring but I guess that's my next move. Need another bag of oil dry.
One more question...Does the oil level in relation to the block remain the same from stock to added volume deep sump? Never thought about it before but never had so many variables.

Probably the dumbest question ever but...Have a 390 a guy wants me to get running. He stuck a deep front sump oil pan on it,and put some Driven break in oil also. The problem is he has no idea the volume of the pan and can't remember how much oil was put in. I would kind of like to know where the full mark should be on the stick. Anyway, the tube sticks out of the block 9 inches, reasonably sure it's original. Not that sure on the stick. If anyone has a tube that length, I would greatly appreciate it if you would measure from your mark to the handle on the stick.  Thanks!

Update...This thing would not start with 5v to the coil when cranking. The problem ended up being they were using a remote starter switch. Since there is no (I) terminal on the relay,12v to the coil on start has to come from the harness. Remote switch didn't work, you need to use the key switch to get 12v to the coil in start, and then measured around 8v in run.
