I found this calculator to be very helpful with overall shift points, mph etc. Need to figure out what results are needed for optimized drag racing. One constraint will be making to the end of the race without having to shift into an overdrive gear.

I wonder if wrapping the headers would change the engine bay sound enough to be more "pleasant"? I've wrapped mid-pipes on various vehicles. There's some change in sound but I couldn't classify is as more quiet. Just different.

I watch frequently also. The latest 445 FE build was encouraging. You DA MAN!

If headers and sparkplugs are the only concerns, wouldn't welding in a flat plate on the inner side of the towers give sufficient clearance?
That is the first step but does not leave any room for factory springs, shocks etc...

I totally understand the debate over shock tower delete cars. It's high dollar for sure and not my style. I am rebuilding the front end on my 68 Cougar. I just went with Open Tracker upper and lower arms, Viking coil overs and a Hotchkis lower cross member. Total spend is about 2K. That's plenty improvement for my needs.

I watch Kiwi's channel a lot. He's had a couple FE projects. Very much a Craftsman and his work shows it.

You can put me in the deviant class also. Deviant with a purpose as Brent and Jay explained. My build is a ways off but looking forward to diving in.

Haha. Nice dose of Karma for the protestors. A recent quote I read goes something like this. "An $80,000 EV isn't a car, it's an IQ test." 8)

Well, having run scoop hooded cars, they really don't let heat escape except at a dead stop. What was mentioned here was adding a washer or two to the rear hinge hood side bolts, allowing the hood to stick up a tad at the rear edge. That does work at idle and underway to let heat escape if one can live with the hood sticking up a tad.
Thanks for this feedback. Exactly what I was getting at.

A better alternator is going to be a step in the right direction if there is a significant voltage drop under normal driving conditions / lower RPM cruise. I know I have contemplated the look of my Cougar with the hood hinges adjusted so that the rear portion is open allowing air to escape out the top/cowl. Could be just the tweak you need to get that heat out of the engine bay. I have been itching to log under-hood temperature before and after such a "mod". Anyone seen any legit data on this?

Thanks for the build post Brent. Been waiting for a few of these to pop up. My set of heads should be available in a few weeks and I'll get my own thread going.

Here's the dimensions of the 6R80. I'm guessing the '88 T-Bird would have come with an AOD. If you have that trans laying around you could compare dimensions. Remember that the FE to 6R80 adaptor thickness needs to be considered.

The Quick 6 has a display. It's what I use as my gear indicator so having it visible is a real plus.
