Non-FE Discussion Forum / Re: Any pilots on here?
« on: October 23, 2025, 06:48:24 AM »
(I have flown innumerable checkrides administered by the: USMC,USN,USAF active, ANG, FAA, and a major air carrier (all three seats).
1. -everybody gets 'checkitis' (anxiety of the unknown);
    - the perfect checkride has never been flown;
2. on a checkride of this nature, the checkpilot's main concern is signing you off, to adequately perform when he is not there -there are other types of checkrides later;
3. dead/quiet time is bad-it can give the checkpilot time to throw a rock at you;
4. my advice: self-critique a quiet narrative as if you're the instructor, mildly. such as 'I'm a couple of degrees left of centerline correcting', 'airspeed coming back'. 'turning downwind -abeam' etc;
5. objective: shows you're connected, and hopefully ahead of the aircraft. This is what a checkpilot wants to see, ie: what's this guy thinking, what will he be doing when I'm not here?
6.although I've never flown a piston engine AC nor had a ppl, any checkride can feel overwhelming. You will make mistakes and think: oh did he see that? do your best to not fixate or get hung-up on what just happened. this is normal and costs critical cerebral bandwidth as other things are now happening, so just press-on pretending you're a composed airman,
Good Luck!
(sorry for the gloat-back to lurking)

Yes, but:
Drew Serb bought the name Cobra Performance from Gordon Gimbel upon his retirement. He has many Cobra related concerns.  Serb also owns/runs the Museum which has public access and cars to be seen.
His other holdings do not have retail storefronts, nor are they at the Museum, although he does sell selected parts via a webpage. They have the character of a personal private avocation on private property. He maintains a skilled staff to do most anything at his direction when called upon.

Whoa
Hiding in plain sight just in LA area (look them up):
-Andy Palmer Coachworks, Sun Valley;
-Steve Hogue Enterprises, Torrance;
-Drew Serb, Martinez-north; and
-McCluskey Ltd, Torrance

All of these are either McCluskey alumni or have a McCluskey buck and are accurate.
These shops can either 'panel-beat/english wheel' a correct car or take a Kirkham and re-contour the front clip to AC form-not uncommon.
Serb does not build retail, but does quietly generate cars when it wants (McCluskey buck).

Gentlemen,
Have any of you installed a Richmond 5-speed and 'landed' the shifter through the stock hole/center of tunnel?
(I realize that a Long or a super shifter would shift much better but I don't want to cut this car...yet!)
Thank you,
Steve A
