FE Technical Forum / Re: Cast Iron Welding Block Repair

That was a common repair in the 60's and 70's and it looks like the price for repair is about the same.I had several done in that time frame and never had a problem with them.

The owner sent it to the sandblaster to blast the bed so I won't be able to check it out until it gets back home.
I did notice the rats nest of wiring on the truck but didn't get time to look at it.
Most of my tools are in my shop and the truck is quit a way's away from my shop.
I think it will have to have a new engine or at least a new set of rebuild heads as it has 3 dead cylinder's. the distro is not correct and frozen to the block as the original reason he had me look at it was to adjust the timing.
Thanks for the help.

Thats why I am lost.
I have not traced the wiring yet but am confused as to why this is running.I would think the white wire would be cut because all it does is retard the disto at start up.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / dura spark question
« on: September 08, 2025, 03:32:12 PM »
My friend bought a 78 F-150 4WD 351M short bed off a farmers estate. Has not run in 10 years.
We got it running but it runs like crap, a good reason to park it.
I was trying to perk it up a little and the spark was real week, I mean I was surprised it would fire up and run like that.
Went to install a new module and the previous owner had made some change's.
He had cut off the red wire and capped it with a wire cap on the 2 wire plug and had the white wire connected.
I don't know much about the dura spark system, but what would be the reason to cut the red wire?
Any help will get you a free beer if you want to come to Oklahoma and collect.

I have used the Wilwood kits on 3 of my cars and am real happy with them. Just follow the directions and for about $800.00 you get all new parts that work.

My friend has one of these engine's he picked up a few years ago.
Back then I ran the number's on them and they said it was a 428.
Yesterday he said he wanted to sell it as he wasn't going to do anything with it so I told him to bring it to my shop and we would dissemble it and see what it really is and if it was worth selling.
Thanks for the info on what to look for as I had no clue.

Here in southwest Oklahoma I have found that Beaver Freight has been the most reasonable for the last 25 year's for me.
Give them a call or go to their website for a quote.

I have used American modern for the last 4 year's.
They insure car's in the rebuild process including all the part's.
It is a agreed value policy [they set the value]  and after about you sending in a couple hundred picture's they will issue a policy.
I have both my 71 Ranchero and 63 Galaxie insured with them.
We started with a value of $12,000 per can and this year they raised the value of each car to $30,000.
I am very pleased to have this coverage as I could find no one to insure my cars before because they were in pieces.
Cost is about #50.00 a month.

My machinist quoted me $300.00 to install them [3 years ago] however after inspecting the block he was afraid the sidewalls were to thin and would weaken the block instead of strengthening it.
Therefore I decided to forgo the install and sold the adapter's.

I have done a few conversions using a 429-460.
They basicly bolt in.
I have used both stands from the 351 and the 429 because someone on a forum said they were different and they are not.

I switched to stud's many year's ago.
For me it is the only way to mount a pan stock or not.

Won't need them as I will order a new set from Strange.
I plan on going out to the pasture this weekend and check out my old parts cars as I have forgot exactly what I have out there.
