I say go for it and complete it yourself. I just completed my own project of pulling the heads and intake to replace gaskets. Had I ever done that myself? Nope. Was I nervous I might mess something up? Yes sir!

But you have this forum, some good YouTube videos, and Barry’s book as great resources. I have Emailed Brent and Ross over the years for help and they have been very helpful and patient with my rookie questions. These guys are a wealth of knowledge and will guide you to success. Good luck!

Great post!  A big thank you to Blair, Brent and everyone else for their comments and experiences.  It's great that we have so many choices for our FEs!

Each build can have its unique needs and characteristics.  It helps to have so many options to choose from.  Case in point, my 445 mill has flat top pistons and I seriously doubt I can achieve an acceptable compression ratio for pump gas with the TFS option.  As such, I am willing to spend more to get a BBM alternative to my Stage X heads that gets me back into my current compression ratio range without a bunch of changes to quench and everything else.

I have personally spoken to Blair and Brent multiple times and have learned a ton from these guys.  I appreciate all their time, advise, and knowledge.  I also agree that flow numbers aren't the end-all-be-all.  These guys provide real A/B testing data to help us select what's best for our intended goals.

I think we should all celebrate these engine builders who take time out from their very busy schedules to share their knowledge and experiences with us!

FE Technical Forum / Re: MSD Ready to Run Help

After going back and forth with MSD Tech Support, I decided to pull the Ready to Run distributor and swap in an old Mallory that I had sitting on the shelf.  This unit had been working fine prior to swapping it out for the MSD.  I popped it in today and tried to start the car.

No luck.  Cranks over fine but will not fire.  Any ideas where to go from here?

I’ve seen the link on how to test a box. This particular distributor can be run without the box. Anyone know the part # for a replacement module?  I reached out to MSD for a test procedure and got nowhere.

Anyone know how I can test the module within a MSD Ready to Run distributor (8595)?  I recently started the car and lost power. Could not get it to start again after multiple tries. I have confirmed I have 12v at the coil, spark, fuel, and charged battery. Even tried another known good coil.

I understand there is a way to test the electronic module but not sure how to do that. Anybody experience this with a MSD Ready to Run?  Appreciate any advice you may have to get it running properly.
