FE Technical Forum / Re: what brand of battery-------------
« on: February 05, 2020, 08:33:26 PM »
When looking for my 64 Galaxie Interstate batteries and NAPA did not have the lip. I found a Bosch branded battery that did, not sure who the manufacturer is.

I picked up two at the local hardware store. 3/16"x 3/4" if I remember right.

Check out Miracle Truss  https://miracletruss.com/ steel buildings. they use steel roof and walls with 2x6 wood studs in the roof and walls
so it is easy insulate . I build a 48x30 with a full foundation and radiant heat. You can also use sonotubes and float the floor.

I have flown several WWII era fighters. Nothing sounds like a Packard-Merlin engine. They are very distinctive in nature.

Umm, Keith, you can not make a statement like that, and NOT expand on it!! There are a very select few who can say that! I noticed the Air Force wings, and the aviation quote, but never asked you about it.

I'm a big vintage aviation buff. I've flown as a passenger on the Sentimental Journey and Diamond Lil (B-17 and B-24 respectively) and an early 30's open cockpit Waco. I would absolutely JUMP at the chance to fly in a fighter, but most are single seaters and I don't know of any others that actually give rides. I would love to hear more about the planes you've flown!

The Collings Fountation gives rides in their P51D two seater trainer.

The missing ingredient is drilling beyond the press in plug seat. A new 7/16 drill and tap, mission accomplished! Thanks for the replies .

I have always just used  regular NPT taps, which fit the lifter feed passages perfectly, a bit tight for the larger galley plugs, but no problems. That said, if you are going to tap all the oil galleys for pipe plugs, you are not ready to start assembly after cutting the pipe threads. I always do any drilling, grinding or tapping of the block, before installing the cam bearings , and do a final thorough jet spray wash, and blowing out all the oil passages, and every nook and cranny before even thinking about installing the cam bearings and beginning assembly.

Thanks Rory428, the block is totally bare, all machining is done, this is the last step before final washing.

My 428 block is just  about ready to go together. One of the last things to do is to tap the oil galley holes. Wondering if you guys are using tapered reamers or just the pipe tap alone? I have started one hole with just the tap and to get the hole large enough to get more than a couple threads on the plug you have to bury the tap pretty deep. The thought of breaking a tap in my block is enough to give me nightmares. Thanks.

Picked up used Sun Pro at a swap meet for $15. Bolted it into the Galaxie and works like a charm. If it didn't for that kind of money i'd toss it

Thanks for all the input. I was leaning towards the Canton screen tray, I’ll give it a shot.

Anyone have any good or bad experiences with aftermarket windage trays pertaining to fit issues on  4.250 stroker kits? Thanks
