Doubtful if there is much if any body panel rust after 5 years unless it was dinged at some point and a crap repair done, most makes are pretty good at this these days.  Your concern should be the fact that is was likely exposed to salt for years and depending on how much and what care it received body panel rust is in the cars future.

Fastest and most effective thing to do in situations like this might be to pull the gauge and the sending unit and verify it works as a system on the bench, then piece it back in with your own external wire harness so to speak if it works fine on the bench, go from there.  Even if you have a good ground if you have some other parasitic current path in the system it will throw things off.

Installed dual 11" SPAL fan assembly, they are beasts, cooled engine down quickly expecting it will be fine on hot summer days.  Problem is they never shut off.

Now question, bought a moderate priced relay/harness kit that came with an on/off thermostat, thermostat is junk, supposed to be on at 185 off 170 but it turned on at 200 or nearly so and not off until maybe 120 after turning car off and letting it sit for quite some time, measured with thermal gun.

Not a single offering on Amazon or Summit has great reviews, SPAL and AFCO sound hit and miss as well.
Has anyone had good luck with or can recommend a specific brand for fan control thermocouple?

Thanks.

Thanks Jay and ArtZarateJr.

ArtZarateJr, any chance you have a picture of what that radiator fin probe looks like?  Website is lacking, also wondering what the offset is and are there potentiometers or ? for setting temp. with that controller?

General question, my Edelbrock dual quad air gap with offset Holleys and MSD distributor leave little to no space to integrate second temp. sensor at the standard manifold location.  Adding one at the heater hose is also tough as the intake runner is right there so no way to do low profile elbow or T of any kind.  Other than being on the wrong side of the T Stat. does anyone see a down side to putting the sensor in the underside of the surge tank right by the radiator hose connection?

Thanks.

Finally getting around to an electric fan installation, going with two 11" Spal puller fans I think.
Question; temp. senders usually have an on at say 185 or 195 and an off 10 to 20 degrees colder.
Do I need to change out my thermostat if it's rating, say 180 is above the off temp. for the sender?
Otherwise fan would in theory run all the time once it kicked on?  Maybe this would only be an issue if thermostat rating was upwards of 20 degrees above sender off, not sure.

Thanks.

I think we should start talking about paint versus cast iron porosity and significant shrinkage Jerry.

Probably not it but a quick check for a good engine ground?

Is it hydraulic roller?
Not that there are not many other reasons to disassemble and clean but some hydraulic rollers are super sensitive to debris due to tight tolerances, ask me how I know?
I built my own, thought I had a spotless block but it was a home shop cleanup and guess what, fought a sticky roller, not worth taking the chance in my opinion if it is.

Thank you.
I think it is a high output alternator and sounds like some of those have samller pulleys.

Hopefully an easy one for the collective wisdom here, trying to avoid running around town.
As simple as it should be I need some input on an alternator belt choice.
The recommended and belt I purchased years back squeels sometimes.
I am at the end of travel for tensioning and it was that way from the beginningso not super tight.
The belt seems too narrow for the alternator pulley and a bit too long, I think it is the 7420 series at .41" wide.

1965 Thunderbird 390 w/AC, all original bracketry and pulleys.
Does anyone have any recomendations on brand, width, and length?
I'm looking at the .47" wide belts but just not sure.
Thanks.

Thanks all.  I don't think you pay capital gains on sale of primary home, at least not federal up to a certain $'s, especially if you can show cost of all improvements etc., to write it down.
Yes, part of my increase is certainly caused by replacement cost coverage, replacement cost jumped the last 2 years, that $ value is way higher than my tax or even street value.
AAA and Progressive/Homestead quotes might be competitive but one does not read good things about Homestead homeowners and not sure of these providers in general.

Hey all,

My home and auto insurance premiums, mostly home, have gone through the roof (no pun intended) the last 2 years.
I am in the Midwest, does anyone have any recommendations on a decent insurance provider?
I don't need premium coverage, I don't make claims for every little thing, just generally good reputation at a good price?
My homeowners has doubled in 3 years, no claims, anyone else seeing that?

Thanks.

I have a wide ratio C6 from Broader in my thunderbird, ~500hp, I abuse it quite a bit, nice crisp gear changes, not great traction so I wouldn't call it hard use at all but no issues in 4 years.
