I want thank everyone who has answered my questions and given suggestions on my Torino 428 build.. definitely the largest can of worms I’ve ever opened! Love the power it has.. once put on the dyno and carb tuned will post the results...now that the car can run like bat out of hell the last can of worms is getting the braking better....waiting for some dry day to see if vacuum canister helps improve braking before buying a vacuum pump

It turns out push in plugs were used instead of threading the oil gallery and using screw in plugs. either the rear one blew out or the builder forgot it? The other issue was a catastrophic lifter failure... Murphy strikes again... thank you all for the replies much appreciated and maybe next week will get to hear run on 8 cylinders instead of 7.... even though it sounded impressive it can only get better.

I didn’t do the assembly so I don’t know for sure what was used.. from what I could see thru the distributor opening I saw at least one push in plug, on top next to distributor hole.

It’s a brand new melling pump. When we primed didn’t see oil coming out of distributor shaft area . We primed it for about 5 minutes or more to make sure oil got through the system. I suppose it’s possible a plug came out....

Today was the big day for firing up the my 428... when we primed the engine had about 40 lbs oil pressure ... upon startup it showed about the same oil pressure only ran for about a minute as we checked for leaks....there were a couple.. restarted the the engine not as much oil pressure and then the pressure starts dropping....put a remote gauge on just to make sure my gauge was accurate and it was showing 7-10 lbs at idle then the lifters started making noise....shut it down ....this is a hydraulic roller cam, roller rockers the oil pump is standard pressure and volume.... any thoughts as to what I should ask the builder? Thank you everyone for advice before I had this built and again when Murphy reared his ugly head...

FE Technical Forum / Aluminum intake fittings
« on: October 06, 2019, 07:11:49 PM »
I’m close to installing my 428 ..waiting for the headers . So I’m trying to get as much installed as I can. I’ve found aluminum heater hose fittings but the only thing I’m finding for the vacuum tree is steel or brass. What would be the choice for an aluminum intake? And since the rpm vacuum port is on the front was going to run hardline to the back for brake booster and trans modulator.

The rocker studs and baffle were hitting. I ended up getting 1/2 spacers for the valve covers. The taller rocker base of the trick flow heads was the issue.

How thick are the spacers? I am using Brent’s roller rockers with studs . I really like my chrome pbf valve covers for the stock look. Where are you located yellow truck?

My 428 build is coming along with the usual hiccups.... tried my powered by ford chrome valve covers and Murphy shows up and says to short to clear valve train... what valve covers will clear rocker stands with studs? Is my only option pent roof valve covers. And will they clear power brake booster?

FE Technical Forum / Re: Power steering

What is the difference between the 2 pumps in flow an pressure? I would really hate to start blowing seals in the power steering ram .... and haven’t had any luck trying to find answers . About the only thing I find with Saginaw and power steering is with integrated steering which I can’t use...
