FE Technical Forum / JBA headers...
« on: April 02, 2023, 05:02:26 AM »
Hi there. I´m helping a friend to build his -67 Stang. Built a stroker FE engine for him. He liked the idea of having a bit more ground clearance, but still headers, so we choosed JBA headers. They advertise that they will fit manual (original steering box) steering or rack and pinion. The engine is now on its place, and i´m getting pretty desperate about pitman arm clearance. If I turn steering wheel right from middle, it goes all the way to its end. But on left steering wheel turns max quarter of turn before pitman arm hits the cylinders 5/6 primary tube. So far I have not dent the tube or grind anything out of the pitman arm. Has anyone used JBA 6655 headers in -67 Stang? Is it possible to use these headers with original steering box? These looks very close to FPA headers, and they are saying that these will only fit with aftermarket rack and pinion. Thanks in advance.

I have used Hookers on my own car for years. They hang pretty low, but they don´t interfere with pitman arm at all.

Hi Mikko

Nope. I consulted a friend of mine conserning the bellhousings. He found 3 bells here in Finland. He kept the iron one and Lakewood version. I bought this aluminium version just because it was rarely seen anywhere.

Where did you find that.
Not from a local scrap yard.

Finally figured out how to add pics into thread. Check out the first posting. It is just like the iron ones. This particular bell takes only 11" clutch in due to lack of the hump. I will clean it and remove the worn paint from it. The threats are beaten up, but that is not a problem. I think timesert´s will be the way to go.

Tom. I sent you an email conserning the pictures :-)

Never heard of one, always iron from my experience, can you post a picture?

Someone on here posted an aluminum one several years ago that I think was a C3 number and wasn't an aftermarket RC scattershield type.

Just crossed by C5AA-6394-A bellhousing. The interesting part was that it is made of aluminium. Are these alu bellhousings common parts? I have never seen this kind of alu part. I bought it because of the material dispate the repair weldings. Those seems to be guite well done, so it seems to be useable part.

The date code is very visible and it is 4L10

I can hear your pain..and that is the reason why I do not call MSD (or Holley). Two times drilled shaft is the reason also I´m looking for a replacement.

FE Technical Forum / Re: Bear Block Motor performance heads??

Here is the original announcement from other FE-site. I sure hope this is ongoing Project :-)

BBM is working in collaboration with Blair Patrick to develop two new BBM High Riser cylinder head castings, as well as a dual plane 1x4 manifold with a 4150 carb flange with ports to fit the as cast heads. The ultra modern high velocity intake ports will be offered in two different castings. One with throat diameter for 2.09 valves, enabling 350+ cfm flow from a less than 170cc runner. This version will compliment the smaller bore FEs, and ultimate torque in 390 based strokers. The other High Riser casting will be for 2.19 and larger valves, 370-ish flow capability as-cast with proper prep, and plenty of material to port for the largest FE intake valves, if desired. The larger port will be around 190 cc. Both heads will feature raised floors as cast, but will have enough material to port match to OEM manifolds if desired. We plan to develop a 2x4 single plane manifold as well. Our plan is to continue to develop the wedge FE design, and bring ultimate wedge FE induction to the market.

Any of you guys remenber BBM writing about new heads they were developing. They vere based on High Riser heads and there should be two versions of them along with matching intakes. Has there been any progress? I know todays BBM heads are very good, but this set up they sort of "pre-advertised" was mentioned to be totally different animals. Any information...Jay, Blair?? Thanks

Is there +/- one thousand main bearings for FE? I´m not meaning Cleveland bearings. Buddy of mine said that King Bearings offers std bearings with those "corrections". Has anyone seen or used them? Thanks
