FE Technical Forum / Re: Subframe connectors
« on: October 28, 2025, 08:07:13 PM »
He was speaking strictly of weld on frame connectors that go under the car as you would typically see for a Mustang chassis.  They connect the front frame extensions to the rear frame or torque boxes, some tie into the floor pans, no roll bar/cage involved.

I was once talking to the owner of RRS about subframe connectors.  RRS is also an Australian company that makes Ford suspension parts.  He was telling me that they tested just about every frame connector they could get their hands on and more or less said they're not worth the weight they add to the car, which isn't much.  He had a setup where he would jack up a corner of the car and measure the flex/twist with dial indicators along the chassis.

Is flipping over the ring gear an option?

There is a guy here in CT with a single car enclosed trailer.  The company is Mad Hen Trucking, I can send you his info if you're interested.

SOB...  I'd been looking at the teardrop hood for a Mustang there for years, when I was ready to order it they had just closed up.  I've been searching for a Crites hood high and low with no luck, about a month ago I gave in and ordered a hood from somewhere else.  Hopefully it's as nice.

If Brent were posting for free advertisement, who is it hurting?  Knowledge and experience do have value, yet Brent openly shares here on a daily basis for free.  In return, maybe he picks up a customer, maybe he gives someone the confidence to do a job themselves.  Who really cares??

Thanks Tunnelwedge.  I've read a lot of mixed reviews about Maier's hoods, but it's still an option.

Has anyone had any experience with Artifiberglass products?  They have a diverse line of hoods and such.

After looking at them for years, I just went on the Crites Performance website to buy a teardrop hood for a 65-66 Mustang.  I see that closed up shop after the owner's passing....  From what I understand, Crites is (was) the only real choice for a quality fiberglass hood, if anyone knows where I could track one down I'd be eternally grateful.  Ctravinski@yahoo.com

PTFE hose is a great universal purpose hose that'll cover any application on your car.  It's very easy to assemble too.

Perfect, that's more or less in line with the original plan.  The radiator is a Mustang radiator for a 67,8,9... FE equipped car, hopefully it'll give me a little more room for a fan than the original radiator.  It is wider, but the lower hose is not offset all the way to the edge of the lower tank.  Once I get a water pump on the block I'll have a better idea of where to start.  I appreciate your input and the links you sent!

Question for Scott- What would be your preferred setup?  I have never been fond of electric fans, mostly because I like to keep things as simple as possible.  More or less getting the job done with the least amount of parts, least amount of clutter, least amount of future problems.  My build is a 66 Mustang with a 482" FE, contrary to my previous thoughts of keeping things simple, I did make one concession to run port EFI on a tunnel wedge.  I have the big '68ish aluminum Griffin radiator and was originally thinking I would put a shroud on the radiator with a flex fan (simplest), or possibly a conventional fan/clutch.  To 68 Galaxie's point, I do also have the ability to manage the timing at slow speeds as well.  What are your thoughts?

He's a one man business. The product is good tho. If you REALLY want the latest greatest these are the guys I'm looking at for my Fairlane.

Their fans put out huge cfm (they have videos showing testing) and their controller is about the nicest I've seen yet.

That looks pretty slick.  I'd like to see the actual CFM reading through a radiator though.
