is this the kind of street use you are thinking about? if not don't go there, stick cars are a hard road to travel. at this event there was not enough traction  for the clutch to work right. pro shift an face plate transmissions suck on the street. https://www.facebook.com/100011481633674/videos/vb.100011481633674/284746161918103/?type=2&theater

lots of things to think of, does your automatic transmission have clean neutral. what happens when the drive shaft is running at 7000 RPM then the input shaft speed drops to 2000 RPM. some automatics do not like this. how many guys have shifted from drive missed neutral and hit reverse? i know a few. think about road race  and circle track cars. as far as my own car goes I just lift.  I have never had any issues, but I do glue my intake gaskets to the head with weather strip glue. this has ben an issue with circle track motors. just my O2

in my old Windsor head 289 and 331. when I ran out of autolite BF22. I switched over to NGK AP8FS, ran good looking for more power. I got some Auotlite AR33. motor ran better. but the plugs were crude at best, had four sets. picked out the best ones to make three sets. took the rest to the nationals at BIR  talked to the autolite rep at there service trailer. said whats the deal with these plugs. the rep took the plugs, gave me a set to replace the bad ones, and another for my trouble. OK? the block split in the 331, start over with a 348 ci dart sb  started out with NGK R5671A8 had room for extended tip switched to R5672A8 it ran better! next I got some Autolite AR3911 ban better yet. then something odd happened, I got some Champion C61YC the car picked up a lot, night and day difference, and I hate champion plugs. not any more. thats what I am running now, some plugs just run better than others. not the first time I have seen this

in my world I would rather have the block honed with deck plates, with about .005 to hone. and use sunnen an500 stones for finish. then brush 6 to 12 strokes . with 100 ft lbs of torque on the head bolts with a thin wall block, it is common to have .0015/003 bore distortion when the deck plates are installed.  if you must have trick rings call TotalSeal.

FE Technical Forum / Re: Brad Penn vs Joe Gibbs Oil

Schaeffers for me  started out with Brad Penn 10/30 in my 331 sb switched to Schaeffers  7000 5/30 picked up .15  the next year I got a deal on some Gibbs xp3 picked up another .1 ran the same oil all summer, about sixty passes. on tear down at the end of the season I found almost no wear, the very large flat tappet cam looked great.  started 2015 with Brad Penn 10/30 in my new Dart 348, after break in and one pass I switched to Schaeffers 5/50  picked up almost .2  big difference in how it ran. like to try some xp3 just to see.

Could that .2 been due to weather conditions? passes made within one hour of each other. in 2007 I took my 66 chevelle circle track car to Raceway Park for  a Saturday play day and sunday night race  with IMCA vintage series. I had ben running Kendall 20/50 brown oil, not green like it used to be. I got a case of brad Penn 20/50, this was the first time I had run it. the difference the way the motor ran was night and day. oil temp dropped about 50 degrees  300+ is not uncommon in wet sump circle track motors during a 30 lap race. best of all was the power gain.  some times oil makes a bog difference in the way motors run. I want to try Motul 300V next

Sheridan pump for me with Beeman pellets. Marlin 22 bolt action with CCI CB short ammo makes less noise. best in town bunny gun by far.

check out these guys. www.umtrnorth.com

I've actually been thinking about joining that organization. Probably not with the Mach 1, but with another car.
do it if you can. stick shift only classes are a lot of fun. ran a Ozark mountain super shifter race at Cedar Falls IA had a great time. a UMTR race is on my bucket list.

its not doing to get better any time soon. think what you could do. drive by wire throttle, electronic shift auto trans. first install ground speed radar, gps, wheel speed sensors, transmission input sensor, tie all of this in to programmable ecu like a mega squirt ms3 pro. you can have, top speed limiter, full wheel speed traction control, run timer red and green lites to tell you if your are ahead or behind on the run. the wheel speed sensors and gps will figure exactly how far to go under power  if I convert my car to efi all of this is easy. how can you prove that I am doing it unless I till you?

« on: January 17, 2016, 02:13:55 PM »
I have had good and bad luck with each. seen at least 15 MSD 6A/ 6T boxes fail. four happened to me . the car would run, but was flat slight miss you just could not tune out. the only sign any thing was wrong was the timing light had a strange flash to it. new box , fixed. on the other hand I have some boxes last 20+ years. one has at least 80000 miles on it. the Mallory stuff I have seen go bad works or it does not, you just never know some day your car wont start. my hauler is set up with ford duraspark with blue strain relief box. I carry a spare box with and a point distributor for backup. you just never know.
