Attachment a little clearer but don't click on it or it's WAY too big. I'm trying :-[.
I've had these heads about 30+ years since I removed them thinking all the while they were LR heads but more likely they are 390 with LR size valves installed.
Imagine my disappointment :o.

Thanks for that photo, it doesn't look like an H, maybe an O or a G but I think a G has the 390 size valves?
I'm gonna work on getting better at my attachment procedure and edit again.

These heads came off a boat from 1966 with a 427 top oiler, heads C4AE, I can't make out the last letter but it has 2.09 intake and 1.65 exhaust valves. Did Ford make a special marine engine or head?

Thanks

I know about the damage, but can you notice a power loss or binding sensation and does it return to normal shape after?
Thanks.

FE Technical Forum / Re: Radiator Cleaning-Tips wanted
« on: June 01, 2020, 09:27:03 PM »
I remember the radiator shops used to unsolder the tanks, then boil it clean in a tank, then run brushes through the tubes and then solder the tanks back on. They called it "rodding" out the radiator. Too much labor cost these days except for specialty stuff. DIY flush saves you a lot of dough unless you find someone to do it for 30 or even 50 bucks or so as mentioned earlier.

Gated or ratchet OK as long as it works good and has a neutral switch.
Thanks

Excellent info link Steve. Thank you.
By the way those headers I bought from you last year worked out perfect.

Thanks guys. Do you know if only the valve body was different or the case also? I've always had an issue with my C6 when hot and on it hard in 1st it wants to bind up like reverse trying to apply, then when I hit 2nd it will jump into neck snap normal power. This is why I wonder if it is a 66 case that's causing this, I hate to buy a valve body and find out it's not compatible with the case. I just don't know what all the differences are. And if the valve body is the only difference why would the TCI rep say it won't work on a 66 C6, unless maybe someone wanted to use the stock shifter which makes no sense at all.
Thanks again
JK.

FE Technical Forum / C6 Manual Reverse Valve body and possible 1966 C6
« on: April 28, 2020, 11:51:29 AM »
I want to replace the B&M manual reverse pattern valve body (purchased in the 70's)in my C6 with a new one from TCI (also manual reverse pattern) and the rep says it will not work in a 1966 C6. I'm not sure of the year of mine but remember it being an early one. How can I tell and what is different that it won't work?
Thanks.

FE Technical Forum / Re: C6 Sat for years, ready for duty?
« on: January 25, 2019, 08:14:25 PM »
Thanks guys I feel a lot better about the tranny. I did replace the front converter and tail shaft seal when the motor was out. I'm gonna change the filter and what fluid comes out (no drain on the converter) with type F, I think it's the same as the B&M blue fluid.
John.

While I was typing this I got the post from Rory428 and not feeling quite so good now, I would hate to send metal through an expensive converter let alone the rest of the trans. I guess if it slips I can shut it down before metal migrates, maybe. I might run it a bit then drop pan and check for clutch material.
Thanks again.

Then again it's pretty tough to tell if it's slipping with an 8" torque converter!

FE Technical Forum / C6 Sat for years, ready for duty?
« on: January 25, 2019, 11:10:46 AM »
My car sat unstarted since 1982, someone stated that the clutch material can deteriorate from sitting. Any thoughts? I went through the motor, started it and all the gears engage. It's an early box around 66, if I remember we used stock ford clutches in it, has a B&M manual reverse pattern valve body and deep finned pan and also a B&M 8" torque converter. The fluid in it is the B&M Trick shift? blue colored stuff which I plan on changing. It had very few 1/4 miles on it before I spun a bearing and parked it in 82.
I don't want to tear it down if it's not necessary.
Thanks for any comments or suggestions.
John.
