Or a MR 2x4 intake...Surely there has to be one out there....
Hi, I have 2 brand new ones here in Brisbane, Australia. One of them is a factory original and I probably wouldn't let it go but the other one I don't have a need for. Cheers

Thanks for that. Dates are great but I really need the 14 holes as they are for a really odd Shelby engine I have. Cheers.

How are you checking?

On a piston like that where you can't put your bridge directly over the wrist pin, you need to rotate until the piston is as high in its travel as it can be, then put your bridge on one side of the piston.  Push down all the way, record the measurement, then push down all the way on the opposite end of the piston so it will rock up in the other direction, then record your measurement.  Average the two and you can see how far down it is.

I wouldn't expect the numbers to be so different on adjacent holes, even on factory blocks that have not been square decked, it will be similar, but you'll see extreme measurements on opposite ends of the decks.
Thanks for pointing that out Brent, a big opps. I machined an ally bridge that I bolted down to the block for rigidity and consistency. The worst of them is 0.028" to -0.004", a total of 0.032". That seems a bit excesive? I am going to put each piston on the CMM at work next week and see what I get. Cheers.

I just thought I would show the members an odd thing I found when checking the deck height in a side oiler that I am building for a mate of mine. We are using a 4.25 stroker crank from Doug at Precision, Lunati 6.660 I beams and a set of Wisco flat tops. As you can see by the measurements, they are all over the shop. Piston to bore is at the top end they recommended, 0.005". I would not have though this would be enough to have the pistons cock over that much. Appreciate and thought's and experiences.

You are right Jay, they are about $6k. I actually insert the seats in the head before a final machine of the combustion chambers. I have a fellow over here by the name of Martin White doing the guide and seat machining at the moment. He is also going to flow the single billet port I made fow when I did the initial prototype. I will post the results once he gets there. Cheers, Warren.

Hi all, They are cast Munro heads. I machine them for Paul in downtown Brisvegas, Australia. The billet bit refers to the prototype single section I made to prove all the programs and to not lose a casting when we got serious. As you could appreciate, the castings are not cheap. Cheers, Warren.

Hi Kevin, I can email a dxf of it for you. I have made my own copper head gaskets. Cheers, Warren.

Thats the whole problem, we need a decent reliable source.

Hi Jay, It's interesting to read all of the responses you have received about this topic. They vary so much from comparing HP for $ spent to the down and out nostalgic nut like myself. I have always wanted a cammer since my dad drove his 65 Gal as a daily drive. Back then I never dreamt of owning one little lone seeing a real side oiler. Its funny, I am 46 years down the road and in the last ten years or so, I have owned 2 NOS side oiler blocks, still have 2 sets of NOS medium riser heads, a set of tunnel port heads and am building a Shelby aluminum blocked cammer with Munro heads and a efi hilborn set up. I still haven't got every thing, but getting close. The real answer to your question is that if you are a fanatic of these engines, the most worrying and frustrating part is the availability of the parts. If there was a real source for a trusted, one stop shop, the cost isn't that relevant. If someone wants to build any type of engine for big HP. the answer is always the same - Cubic Inches Over Dollars. I wish I could find a truly reliable source. I have added a very rough add up of "prices" I found on line. Please feel free to correct me or add to the list for something I have forgoten. Cheers. Ps, this is a great forum.

Thanks Jay.  I will see if I can fashion something in order to get the spring off.  I see they make a universal spring removal tool that they sell at Autozone.  Its like $20, and I don't see why it wouldn't work.

So just so I understand, I will still use clay? (I saw you used a check spring and clay in the 519" build).  The only difference is that the check spring gives you the "worse case scenario" as far as valve depth?  And If I used a normal spring, the valve would not travel as "deep" just turning the crank by hand thus not giving you an accurate measurement?  Even when you use a check spring, the heads still need to come off to remove the clay for measurement right?

I believe out of the who build process, timing the cams has had me the most nervous (So much so that I purchased an extra set of the ferrea lightweight valves just incase)  lol  Hopefully I don't need them!

Hi Jason, I found your thread last night and read all 18 pages to bring me up to speed. Just curious about the valves you bought, do you have a part number or were they a custom order? I am just about to start building my own heads.

Cheers, Warren.
