Just wondering if Dan Williams has changed his phone number, I've been trying to call for several days but it either comes up busy [which could be the international line] or a Telco message tells me to check the number again as it is disconnected. I'm using 828
524-9085 this is the number on the only web site I can find and I called him on it about 18 months ago. Thanks Rob.

Thanks for the good honest replies .I now know that my expectations aren't practical with what I have so I'll lower the bar and go for something that will be close to 500 hp with plenty of torque , change the rear gears and strengthen the trans, work on the suspension and hone the driving skills to get some good 60 ft times in the bank. I'll still have a ton of fun bracket racing and be able to enjoy driving the car. I would rather a good combination than something that is neither, then I can upgrade the top end later when $ permit.
Would still like some ideas on grinds to achieve this. Thanks Rob.

PS. What really makes me sick is my wifes car is a 5L Coyote with factory supercharger, runs 12.7 out of the box.

Great advice you can't argue with the facts on the carb. I am running beehives on the heads now after you guys advised and they fixed the valve train problems I had. I will stick with a hyd roller and use them, I have them installed at 150 seat /375 open will that be ok for pressures once I check bind etc. What do you think of this grind it's a comp 236 and 242 with 636 and 634 lift 112 lobe sep
Would that work with my top end? I didn't mention I'm using fpa tri-y and have a 7 quart baffled sump and windage tray, restrictors are in the heads I'll do the oil mods as per Barry's book as I did on the old block

Thanks for the replies, I'll have to get to a weighbridge and get a weight. What is a safe rpm limit for a 445 given springs etc are set up right. Ihave a set of 930 -16 doubles and 26120 beehive if I keep the roller. What do I have to do to get more than .600 lift from the ED's.The trans was rebuilt about a year ago and is now a wide ratio just didn't think ahead far enough to use a big in.I'll have to stick with the RPM for the time being[$]But what CFM carb would you recommend. I'll go for 4.33 rear and I can get 98 ron fuel anywhere here it's what I use all the time. As usual your responses are very usefull, Thanks Rob.

A conrod bearing on my 390 has failed and it's .060 over now and is not a suitable starting point for stroker build and I don't want to spend any more money on what will never  be an engine that will suit my aim. Have found a standard bore block that should be suitable if it checks out ok. My aim is to spend plenty of time on the strip with occasional cruises in between. I have a 64 Gal f/back with 3.7 gears ,toploader, caltracs, 31 spline axles and 28 inch M/T et streets. The parts I will be using off the 390 are 60069 Eds with standard valves with some porting and blending matched to a RPM Performer, Harland Sharp needle rollers and I have been using a comp hyd roller D 230/236-L 521/529.Ineed advice on cam and compression selection [piston style choice] for the best combination for a heavy car. I am a bit disappointed with the roller lifters as they are a little noisey after only relatively low miles and would love to fit a solid flat tappet something like a comp 284b-8 if that would suit, but I am dead scared of wiping a lobe and having to tear it down again. I would like to be able to run low 12's consistanly or better if me and the suspension are good enough. I will upgrade the trans to a big in and change to a 3.9 or 4.11 as required. Ignition is msd mech advance and 6al box. Some estimates on tqe and hp with different combos would be appreciated. I will be in touch with Survival for assy supply as it will be ready to go. I forgot to add that the heads are 67cc.Thanks in advance, Rob.

Hi everyone, I've decided to replace the 924-16 springs with the 26120's as suggested and need some help to ensure I order the correct locators to fit the edelbrock heads. The vehicle is 400 miles from where I'm working so I can't carry out any measurements . I am unsure of the inner ID to fit over the guide. Part # are 4696, 4697 and 4698. Also would the installed height of 1.880 giving 155 seat and 355 open be appropriate pressure wise, this still leaves .110 before coil bind with my lift. If I order the parts online now they will be there when I get off shift.  Thanks Rob.

Thanks for the replies, I won't be taking anything for granted in the future, I'll be assessing the individual parts supplied in any kit I use.
As this was delivered directly to the machine shop I'm pretty disappointed in him as well(spent plenty there over the years-as well as recommendations). After several emails to comp they tell me I need better springs ,go figure, so I let them know my thoughts. They are telling me the same as you guys, the supplied springs are even less than advertised. I'll probably have to save a bit and go with the beehives. The x pipe is a Summit product and the pipes are coming off for a dyno run next time I'm off shift, he's not charging me for this one. Thankyou all for your tech expertise, it would be easy to dig a bigger hole without it.

Found the box my cam kit came in and the spring pressures are different to what my machine shop told me. They are comp part # 924-16, Seat Load= 112lbs @ 1.90 installed, Open Load= 355lbs @ 1.20. Alternative upgrade (which I know about now) part# 26120
Seat Load= 155 , Open Load=355 , just a little better than the E/brocks, there is every chance that this where the problem is.
Why do manufacturers and suppliers not tell you these things up front so you can make the best choice without having to go the long way round to get the right outcome. I work away so I have to shelve things now until I get back in about 2 weeks or so.
I have a tool to change springs with the heads on, do you recommend doing it that way or pull them off for accuracy?
Should I use the Edels or spend more money on the comps? :)
thankyou all for your help and advise I'll let you know when I've changed them over.

Hi Todd, I'm at the Sunshine Coast QLD mate. I tried a750 dp on one run and made 5 hp less , I bet this something so simple that I can't see the forest for the trees. A/F ratio's were simlar , no apparent leaning off. When I get a chance I will install original distributor and see if there are any variations.                 Thanks Rob.

Thanks for the replies, the a/f ratio stays in the mid to high 12's so I don't think it's running out of fuel either, I just had a look at the plugs and not as clean as I would like to see a bit dark and this car runs perfectly ,great start up ,crisp idle, no flat spots , plenty torque and acceleration. Just hits the wall when you really want to push to the next level so I'm wondering about the rotor phasing etc. There's no scope on this dyno , so I may have to go to another.

That sure looks like something I'll have to seriously investigate. That pump is supposed to 110 gph but I don't have a pressure gauge, I just assumed that if the sight bowls showed fuel during the run then there was adequate supply.
                                                                                                                                     Thanks Rob.

Sorry ,I probably didn't explain that properly it will continue to rev past 4900, It's just that the power drops off dramatically and you are going nowhere. The rev limiter is set at 6200( won't need that the way I'm going). Pretty sure fuel lines are 5/16. The carb is a 770 street avenger and did experiment with p/valves and jets on the dyno ,also used a 750dp and ended up with slightly lower readings all in the same rpm range. I have also made sure that msd supply is actual battery voltage and not ballasted.
                                                                                                                                                     thanks rob
