FE Technical Forum / Re: Edelbrock head NASCAR version
« on: December 22, 2025, 03:48:24 PM »
A friend bought a Comet with an FE. Someone engraved NASCAR on the front face of the Edel cylinder head.
. I was not aware of a NASCAR version, hence the query.
Perhaps the builder wanted to mess with people.

drdano, letting the sensor see exhaust before getting powered up is usually recommended against by the manufacturer. ( unless I’m misunderstanding your sequencing).

Another supposed plus of the AEM set up is it was advertised as being tolerant of leaded fuel. Which I don’t understand as both Innovate and AEM use a similar or even the same LSU 4.9 sensor.

I used Innovate for about 5 years before pulling the plug on their stuff. Got into it to the point of adding in a “brain” so I could link in other sensors. Nothing but trouble with their stuff and customer service not very helpful.
I switched to AEM and have been pleased with their stand alone units. Only problem I had was the supplied sensor was of poor quality. Perhaps they are trying to keep costs down on entry level kits?
ANY unit you choose MUST be paired with a quality unit like a genuine Bosch. Yes, I was yelling there. Trying to save you grief on getting system to work the first time and continuing to work. Even with good sensors the time will come where you must replace the sensor. Might be every season, might be every three seasons depending on the fuel it sees and how many hours on it.
( unless you pull sensor after achieving final tune).
Mine stay in cuz there is no final tune, I’m always tuning.

Did they, do they make a head with NASCAR embossed on the face of head? If so, what is different about them?
Thanks

Good luck MSgt. Thanks for your many contributions
Apologies on spelling if you are Army

Awesome!
Have you tried different final gear ratios? Seems tall but obviously you are getting it to work. How low is that first gear? What are trap rpms?

I was at a cruise last night and a guy showed me his 68 XR7 rear tires not being evenly spaced. I told him it’s not uncommon. My 67 Fairlane is tighter on passenger side.
I like some of the loosening/tightening ideas above. Might get you closer to even.

FE Technical Forum / Re: Where to attach 4 chain engine tilter?
« on: September 17, 2025, 03:00:33 PM »
Doug, will there be an intake on the test fit engine? 2 x 4 perhaps? I use a plate on each carb opening and two chains on the tilter, ( one to each plate). The plates have three holes and the front & rear chains don’t have to match locations on the plates.

Joe, you can wheel in on eliminations day, ( Sunday). You will only get one time trial however. You must pick one of the Elimination Classes
If you get serious about going let me know ahead of time.

Nice that you had a good time and getting more consistent with car.
This is big event at my local track coming up.

I would put an electric choke on the front carb. Let it warm up that way. Set the kickdowns for 1600-1800 for high and 1200 for low. Don’t even look at the A/F until you have some heat in motor/ exhaust. Idling cold with a big cam will give confusing numbers. ( and a cam with a lot of overlap combined with a low idle can give skewed numbers even when warm)

Drive at least two miles before you get to tuning/worrying about cruise A/F.

My Magnum 500s are on car so can’t measure backspace. I believe the fronts are 3.5” BS. 225/60-15 np.
As far as out back goes you can run 255s with any number of back space combos. Soon as you try to put a 275 in there everything changes.

Many racers have got it done with transfer tubes. However, to rule out any possible fuel supply worries I fed each bowl. Used braided steel lined hose with AN fittings. Quick Fuel carbs with transfer tube left in place so fighting with O rings can still manifest.  I would share images but they are jpeg and I cannot execute the attachment.
