Crower calls theirs Camsaver lifters. They have been around for quite awhile, although I've never used them. Other cam companies sell them too.

Seems to me that Joe's methods are sound, and very much as I've been doing for many years also. I'll add that a MityVac pump with a vacuum gauge in it can be used to tailor the vacuum advance curve also.  If you've got some other superior sense about detonation what is it? What is your recommended curve?

I posed this question on the other forum also. How is something eradicated as stated? Would this not actually neutralize or change the chemical make-up to something else?
I was a power plant operator for 34 yrs. The plant I worked at had catalytic reduction systems for NOx control. It used ammonia sprayed over the catalyst bed to reduce the emissions , it did not eradicate anything, it actually added ammonia the the mix. http://www.pollutiononline.com/doc/breakthrough-co-technology-eliminates-vehicle-exhaust-fumes-at-the-source-0001

FE Technical Forum / Re: Jays adaptor with a 351C airgap
« on: October 05, 2015, 08:51:33 PM »
I have a similar issue with the adapter and a Trick Flow intake ( I haven't been working on lately ). By stacking 2 gaskets the port alignment is way better and will require minimal blending, none at the floor.
On your setup I would closely approximate the thickness of 2 gaskets and re-scribe it to see if that improves the alignment also.
I will use the Trick Flow gaskets as they closely match the manifold and the adapter. One of my concerns with the gaskets is that the bolt holes are slotted and there was no way to ensure that they would not slip. I don't want to glue it together, so I pinned the gaskets to the adapter to ensure alignment.  I'm sure others will offer more suggestions.

Drag Week 2015 / Re: Jay wins!

Amazing success! I'll be waiting for the book, the song ( Jan & Dean style ) and of course the movie ( Coen Brothers or Quentin Tarrantino style ).

I'm going way off the chart, after reading of all Jay's setbacks and still making the program, I'm guessing there is more in the tune and driver technique. 8.48, I like the number and actually hope he bests it. I think that depending on track and weather conditions his ets will steadily improve.
Jay deserves a title way above Hero!

I built my work bench top out of a heavy solid core door. Lots of stuff on it ( always ) and the bench vise is as secure as the day I bolted it on.

My thoughts on where Jay may, or should go with this in the future, since some of the adapter buyers are speculators: The next 15 adapters should go directly to ebay, sell them auction style, one or two a week or 5 day auctions. Starting with a higher than current obligated price, reap the profits. Then finish up the remaining already ordered manifold adapters to thwart the speculators.
After the pre-ordered adapters have been made, shipped etc. set the price on the next run closer to what the market establishes as a median.
I have two, myself ( two different iterations ) and I'm very impressed with the quality of these parts. I believe Mr. Brown deserves to profit from his labor!

Does anyone remember the "Primitive Pete" kid's safety books and films? I think dad regretted giving me that book at about age 5. It was very useful for tool selection to take things apart that I was never able to put back together.

I had a similar trace leak that turned out to be a head gasket leak, they were Felpro 1020s ,since it was a pretty fresh rebuild I re-torqued the heads and that problem was solved.

Well I'm into matching the previously posted Trick Flow  Track Heat 4V Intake # TFS-51600111 to my standard adapter. I have discovered that the ports on both are for all intents and purposes identical in size and shape ( 2.15" H X 1.540" W) ,except for the height . The manifold to the adapter needs to be raised a total of .1875" . The Trick Flow gasket #TFS-5160021 fits the adapter port perfectly if the bolt holes are very gently trimmed on the bottoms, the gaskets measure .062" thick.
So my question is does anybody make a thin ( approximately .075" ) spacer? If so I could use 2 gaskets sandwiching the spacer and achieve perfect port alignment. If I glued 3 gaskets together it would likely be so close as to make a spacer unnecessary. I have never glued 3 gaskets together and worry that the center gasket might pinch out over time. Does anyone make a double thick gasket? That might work also if I glued one standard gasket to it.
Should I make my own spacer?

I would silver solder it ( good silver solder 50%  or at least 35% silfoss ), if you don't have access to TIG. Good silver solder is very strong if done correctly.
Under no circumstances should you ever "butt braze or silver solder" a joint. Either use sweat on type fittings or swage one end to be coupled...And use the appropriate flux. Any refrigeration supply house can supply all necessary stuff.

I had previously posted about the TFS Track Heat single 4V intakes for use with the Standard adapter. I spoke with the TFS tech dept and the 51600111 and 51600113 manifolds are actually the same, except the 113 is applicable to Clevors and even though they are typically for 9.2" deck blocks he thought the 113 manifold might be wider (?). The picture of the 51600111 is actually a drawing giving the illusion of slightly smaller OD runners.
I ordered the 51600111 from Summit, I've received it and I believe it will be about the easiest port match ever to the adapter. The runners are larger than the Ed Torker, the TFS casting is really nice and the ports are really pretty too. It is tall though.
After I mod the manifold to fit the adapter, I'll know way more.         No I don't work for TFS,    Rick Wanner

I received my intake adapter and it is a beautiful piece. ( Standard adapter ). I've been looking at lot's of 351C 4V intakes other than the Edelbrock Torker.
I found 2 offered by Trick Flow Specialties that seem to be ideal, part numbers are: 51600111 and 51600113. Has anyone already stumbled on to this possibility?
I think the 51600111 would likely be better for smaller cubic inch engines using the adapter, whereas the 51600113 appears to have larger external runners maybe allowing for better port matching.
I'm going to call TFS and talk to the tech dept. If I learn any more info I'll pass it along.   Rick Wanner

Having been involved in off road racing in the 70s,on a Bronco team, my experience was all good with the K&N filters.  Until we learned about K&N filters ( from Parnelli Jones ). We would run a Filtron foam filter over a paper filter. After a lap or two, or after a few check points, the engine would start running very rich, puffing smoke like a diesel. We would then pull the foam outer filter and run the rest of the race with just the paper element and usually by the finish it would be clogged up also.
The K&N filters never had similar problems, and we never experienced undue engine wear or even dust getting past the filter.
We even won a couple of races....
