FE Technical Forum / Re: How to improve stock auto shifter?
« on: July 04, 2011, 04:44:42 PM »
Thanks for the replys, Jay I figured you were busy, sorry for bugging you during your busy rush to get ready for Drag week, wish you the best of luck, enjoyed watching you run the galaxie at Muncie, IN.  couple years ago.  I am a bit anxious to get this problem fixed, so I can get back to the track, working on hitting the 10's in the Comet and need to get this part figured out.  I was looking at different ideas of a cable retro fit, thanks for the pics, helps bring it together for me (I think, will get back under car and relook at the ordeal)  Least I know what I thought should work, will with a bit of customizing work.

Thangs again for the help!!

Does anyone know of an aftermarket cable kit that can be adapted to stock column shifter?  Just thinking here, oh and searching online too, with no real luck.

Jay I know your busy getting the Mustang ready for Drag week, but were you shifting that C4 with stock column shifter?  Did you do anything to improve it?  Thanks

I am looking for ways to improve (remove the slop) my stock column automatic shifter.  I dont want to put in an aftermarket shifter, due to the overall look of the car.  Jay if I remember right you were shifting the Galaxie with stock column shifter?  My '65 Comet has a good bit of play in the shifter, makes it hard to hit the gears on the track.

Also looking at going thru the tranny and getting a new looser convertor, I had heard others talk about Broaders Performance, I would like to find someone closer to me here in Ohio to save on shipping, but dont know of anyone I would trust.  If not I will get ahold of Broaders and try and get an idea of what its going to cost to ship there and back.

FE Technical Forum / Valve adjustment?
« on: May 10, 2011, 07:26:54 AM »
I am getting ready to adjust the valves on my Pond motor in the Comet.  Just wondering if there is anything different to take in consideration on an aftermarket all Aluminum motor?  I have the cold settings that Robert recommended.  It has Edelbrock heads and Shelby roller rockers.  Need to pop a valve cover off to see what size the adjuster and allen key lock is, was thinking of ordering a tool to do this, figured it would be easier than fumbling around?

Sorry for the newbie question, just alot of money in the motor to use as a learning tool.  Love it and ready to take it to the track again.

Thanks!!

FE Technical Forum / Re: Timing Light?
« on: May 10, 2011, 07:12:40 AM »
I had a 30 yr. old Sears timing light too.  Loaned it out and never got it back, so here I sit looking for a new one.  It was a simple one that did its job.  Never used one with dial back, wasnt sure the advantage to it?  I am afraid to buy a Sears timing light today, have not had alot of luck with the new stuff.  I will look at the MSD light closer, has anyone had expierence with the Equisse(sp?) from Summit?

Thanks for the advise, just wanna only have to buy 1 more, no loaning out tools anymore.  To much never makes it back home.

Well where does one start?  My name is Rodney and I am from Ohio.  I first was introduced to the FE with my first couple of pickups, both having 390's.  I didnt realize how much I liked those 390's until my next two trucks one with 351M and other with 302.  That was the start of my love for FE's, the 428scj took it to the next level for me, I havent looked back since.  My goal is to put an FE in most everything I can, do have a couple of cars that dont have one, the '40 Ford Deluxe tudor w/flathead (all original), '62 Falcon that I am putting a turbocoupe 2.3/ T5 (cause its different) and a '67 Country Sedan S/W w/289 for now but I keep thinking a good torque monster 390 would make a neat tow rig/swapmeet ride.  Otherwise everything else I own if propelled by the FE family.
I have alot to learn about them yet, especially on the performance end of things, need to keep giving my Chebby friends a run for there money with this old school ford engine.  So Im on that life long task of learning everything I can about the FE, as well as hoarding as many as I can, too stuff in everything that can be made to fit in.
Another real good reason for someone to become addicted to the FE is the quality of the people you meet with the same interest.  I have had my share of hobbies and interest over the years and FE guys are the greatest out there, willing to help each other, share knowledge (example this forum and its founder).  Hope to meet many more of you in the future, as great as these forums are, nothing beats meeting people face to face and having some good ole fashioned benchracing and brain picking.

Mario,

Wish you best w/ sleeves.  I have a 428 w/ a couple sleeves, always wondered about sleeving all holes before.  interested in how it works for you, will follow thread for updates down the road.
My real concern with the AC sleeves is will you be able to get the RPM over 2100?? ;D  those ole tractors werent good for much more than that.  :)

Hello to everyone,

Glad to see the start to another great FE forum,  Jay I agree with your observation of fordFe.coms layout and topics staying on track better, but honestly I always figured that was more do to the quality of the people posting on that forum, and the fact that they stay on people that get off track.  I had been on other forums of that type that seemed to get off topic easily.  Personally I like this type of layout, I dont like gettting lost on page 2.  I often dont have much time to check forums I frequent and I like being able to quickly search threads i am active in, and I like forums that allow me to subscribe to threads of interest to me.  On FordFe.com I tend to forget some of the threads I am interested in reading and have commented on, its a case of Old-timers I think, maybe having too many irons in the fire at one time.

I agree with the above, what truely makes a good forum is the quality of the people and the information offered.  I can adapt to any type of forum if the information is worth doing so.

Thanks Jay for all the hardwork in name of the FE, and for giving us a new place to hangout.
