« on: November 19, 2013, 08:34:16 PM »
Picked up this truck November 1st.  Another Arizona garage find. Best part about it is the originality including the paint etc

Crappy cell pics do not show how nice it is.

Factory 390 Truck too!

NP 435 4spd

Ranger Package

Deluxe Tutone Paint

Spare Tire

Factory Disc Brakes 12.6" Rotors

Dana 60 With a 3.54 Gear

Factory A/C

Tinted Glass

25 Gallon Fuel Tank w Standard Fuel Tank

Heavy Duty Front & Rear Springs

Camper Package

It would make a nice Shop truck or Tow Vehicle

Inside of box has only a few scratches . . .

Truck sat for years so fuel system had to be gone thru

After taking it partially apart to go thru the mechanicals its no doubt orig miles. I have never seen a 44yr Old Arizona Truck with this nice of original paint. Pretty much any AZ veh for that matter.

The old tires literally fell apart once it was moved.

Last dealer parts guy I spoke with found that the new price doubled in the past couple monthes....I'd take a dozen...

Indeed Barry! Spoke with my parts guy today and he confirmed the huge price jump Dealer cost has jumped from 38.00 to 76.41
New price effective October 1st. I just bought a couple 3 wks ago and paid the 41.xx each.

I can still get them for you but price 84.05 Ea  I had no idea they had recent price jump!  R

A few wks ago when you asked for some I called dealer to see what my cost was. WHen he said 41.xx ea my cost I ordered a couple. Was meaning to get more but kept putting it off.

Just so you know Ford does not plan on producing more and when these are gone thats it.  They did the price jump because they are running low on last batch. They will be obsolete soon.

Dealing with health issues slow to respond.

I will double check pricing tomorrow and let you know price on a dozen, and how soon I can get them.
Maybe we could even do a trade of sorts as will be needing a few pieces for my 416 Build.

Joe, The 3.5L EcoBoost has so much torque along with the wonderful 6R80 6spd trans it easily does wonderful with the 3.15 Gearing. Another friend just bought one 2 nights ago (I helped negotiate a good deal) It also has the 3,15 gearing. Its a 4x2 Super Cab.

The tallest gear avail with the 5.0 is 3.31  The eco the 3.15 just because of the low end torque.

The tallest gear in the 3.7L is 3.55

Kind of like the new 6.7 Diesel they have a 3.31 Gear as standard.

Friend that just bought a couple days ago fresh of the transport was getting 18.5 local driving with no miles and of course a few a bit harder on throttle than needed. I would expect once its got a few miles on it and easy on throttle he should get 20 back and forth to work

I am building a '66 F100 truck using the 3.5L Ecoboost and the 3.15 Gearing I expect 25-30mpg at 60mph

3.31 gearing maybe a tad quicker but not much. 3.73 the steepest gear avail with eco thats the Max tow package.  I prefer the 3.31 or 3.15 much nicer cruising around.
The new Tremor regular cab short bed will come with a 3.5L and a 4.10 Gear set. That should be interesting I am sure will absolutely dust the last Gen lightnings.

Local guy has a Ford Flex with EcoBoost and with upgraded turbo's and some tuning is putting down 600Hp @ the wheels!

All I can say is go drive a new eco with the 3.15 gear which is standard and think you will be very impressed how well it does.  If 4x4 think tallest gear is 3.31.

I need one....

Turns out the one I have on my desk is the Mopar unit.  I know about 30yrs ago did by some new ones for the 3bbl just gotta find em'

Barry, A while back you were looking for the FE oil filter adaptors. Are you still in need? I can pick them up for around 40.00 each if you need some. Do have a few new ones still in boxes now but can get hundreds if need be.  C0AZ-6881-A marked C8AE-6881-A Randy

Do any of you folks have any real world experience with the F-150 with eco-boost and actual performance capabilities?  What fuel economy with the supercrew cab?   Towing mileage?  I messed up and got rid of my Tundra on a whim, and now I need a truck.  My last Ford, a 2005 F-150 supercrew was a total wreck from day one, and I lost a lemon law court case on it, and I bought a Tundra.  It was a great truck, 14+towing, 18+ empty with all the comforts.  I have been a ford enthusiast all my life, but now I find myself needing a new truck without the maximum tow capability, just an occasional car/trailer one way trips.  Recommendations?   Joe-JDC.

I am putting one in a '66 F100.

I did a full comparison towing my 26' trailer and without trailer with different gear ratio's to see how they would do. friend just bought one a week ago.
Mileage really depends on what gear ratio and if 2 or 4whl drive. The trucks I tested were all 2whl drive.

the 4x2 comes with a 3.15 gear std (thats what I have in project truck) they will get 22-25mpg highway if you drive them nice. in town really depends on how much stop and go. Around here combo of city highway with a lot of that bumper to bumper highway will do 18mpg

Are you looking at a 4x4?  You may be able to pull 18-19 highway or a tad better with a 4x4 depending on gear ratio and speed. The ones with max tow package and 3.73 will get much worse mileage than the avail 3.31

When I did my trailer tow test on a very windy day with the 4x2 I was getting around 7mpg but that was extreme. With a bumper pull it will be far worse mpg than if you have goosneck. prob 3-5mpg diff. A lot of variables

Thanks for offer Bob.  Found one local for 100.00 fresh turned ready to drop in.

I had a brand new 3v carb a few years back bolted it on my 427 Comet worked wonderful.

I think I may have a boat load of those diaphrams new in holley package if you need one.  A few minutes ago was digging thru my holley stash and saw them sitting there. Much larger than typical Holley?

Is it a 135-6?  Yup, got them.. Have had them over 30yrs
Unopened holley package if its correct.

Looking for nice ready to drop in 428 Crank for engine project. No welded on re-done junk. May consider one of the new ones like Barry sells.

Picked up a 390 that had just been rebuilt, a valve was sticking and it was a total dog. Turns out pistons are .125 in hole. Either 410 or 360 Pistons with a 390 Crank.

4.  Lastly is an old 352 that I'm doing for myself.  I bought a complete running core from James Hunter, a forum member in WV.  Believe it or not, I'm going to dyno this puppy as it sits with all the factory parts on it.  Past that, I'm going to keep a tight lip....I've got some big plans for it using the factory stroke, C6AE-R heads, and some other goodies.

Interesting builds Brent!

I too am very curious to see what the 352 does. My dad bought a new 1966 F100 in october 1965 with a 352, 3spd on the column with a 4.11  Ran really well.

I currently have 2 Running '66 Trucks with 352's & 3 More 352's under the bench. One of those had never had a bolt turned on it ran unbelievably well. Because it ran so well tore it down to see what it was made of so to say. Found out during teardown it had never been apart. With exception of the timing chain looked like it had very few miles. Plan on rebuilding it back to stock.

Thanks, I'd like to have that item number.  If Edelbrock uses glass beads on their manifolds, that's good enough for me.  Although I have been investigating some chemical dip options over the last few days...

The course beads give it kind of a sparkle~new appearance.

couple pics of my Tunnel Wedge after. Kind of poor photo's.
I have been in and out of hospital last few wks so will try to get the item number when I can.

Both castings in the first photo were shot peened at the foundry, but the darker one was also heat treated prior to shot peening.  So I think I need to do something to improve the appearance of the intakes, because as is they are too dark.  I've never heard that glass beading opens up the pores and reveals defects on a cast aluminum part; are you sure about that Doug?  Glass bead blasting has been done on cast aluminum parts like intake manifolds for years; I can't imagine there's any problem with it.  After I glass beaded the one casting, its appearance improved dramatically and there weren't any defects visible from the process.  In any case though, I don't plan on doing that kind of thing myself, my blast cabinet is definitely not up to that drill.  I just need to find out what should be done...

Jay, Just use a #4 glass bead and it will give you the exact finish you want.

I will get a item # but the stuff I have I was told its what Edelbrock uses in foundry . . .

FE Technical Forum / Re: anyone ever see an FE in a Jeep?
« on: April 19, 2013, 10:32:00 PM »
Having a little builders regret that I did not know that the 390  has a HP limit. Initially I thought it to only be displacement. So I am thinking of using my 445 FE for my rock crawler Jeep and lining up a 428 block for the comet. Been doing some research and hooking the FE to my transfer case Is going to take some major sidestepping.  First the only adapter is to a GM trans but I have the trans and adapter all rebuilt  and ready to go. Next I have to take a walk over to the rat rod guys side of town and get a trans adapter for 500 bucks. And we are at least that far with that then radiator and exhaust will be the next obstacle to surmount.  Fortunately 390 engines came in small packages so Mustang headers should fit. Radiator is gonna be a tight squeeze not sure on that any suggestions? Thanks Jon

My brother in law has a early CJ with a 390 in it. No fit issue's at all, running some type of adaptor and a early bellhousing.

He is in process of dropping on a Fiberglass body and freshening things up a bit.

FE Technical Forum / "Rebuilt" 390 1966 F100
« on: February 27, 2013, 11:49:53 PM »
I recently picked up a "rebuilt" 390 engine that was in a truck for a very short time. I was told it just never ran right. It has been sitting under cover for many years but I like the price. Haul it away for FREE!

After a partial teardown just to verify if it really was a 390 vs a 352 or 360 I found it indeed had few miles on a rebuild but one of the first
things I did notice was the pistons are .121 in the hole! And yes it is a 390 block with a 3.78 stroke.

Only thing I can figure out is someone added 410 vs 390 pistons?

So what it appears I would need would be either a 390 piston that would bring me closer to zero deck height or maybe adding a 428 crank.

I did find a 428 crank (1U) for 150 but it needs to be turned and of course that would me I most likely would have to add a different intake, cam, balance job etc.

It will be going into my '66 F100 as a daily driver so not so concerned of it being a hot rod but just reliable and to run great.

Has anyone seen a 390 with pistons that far down in hole?

Engine did come with a new edelbrock performer 390 intake with edel carb.  The performer worked great on my total stock 352 but I may have to step up to a RPM intake?

Truck has a column shift 3spd, will very seldom if ever see 5000 rpm, 3.50 gears and a 28.3" tall tire.
2 1/2" single exhaust.

Total budget build here as have too many other projects in the works.

What kind of deck height will a KB150 piston give me?
