Current is a Cam Research Solid Roller

.588 I & E
232~236 @ .050
104 Intake
108 Exhaust

.050 IVO 12 Closes 40
.050 EVO 46 Closes 10

It was done for a basically stock bore stroke 427 with only mods a small header and the tunnel wedge setup

The heads will fit a 2" pipe nicely - and its a good size for the cubic inch and application.  I have found primary pipe size to be less critical than one might suspect as long as you're within a rational range.

Barry, What cam would you recommend for this combo?  When the current cam was chosen it was for 427 Cubes and much more mild. It will most likely never see a drag strip and getting a bit old for something that is hard to drive. A nice solid roller street cam.

Thanks All!

Barry, where is a good place to start with tube length and collector length? I know on this application it may not be that important but would like to be at least in the ballpark.

The Road to Drag Week 2014 / Re: The Road to Drag Week 2014 - August 3

One thing I do not miss every week is a update on your drag week posts.

Sorry to hear about the oil leak.

I also use nothing but the TA-31 Motorcraft sealant it was designed for the 7.3L Diesel
Imagine that the first time since I have owned this 7.3 (143k miles) it does not leak a drop of oil. Harder than a FE to not leak . .

Talking about expiration dates my tube says 5/22/13   Still good though!

After using it I threw the right stuff in the trash

Getting to the point I need to build headers for my 66 f100.

482"
Tunnel Wedge and carbs from Barry
10.41 comp
Heads are also from Barry CNC'd Edels

Cam was made for a stock 427 Cuber so a bit small and may need to upgrade. Suggestions for cam also. Its a Solid Roller

As long as I am having to build headers from scratch I want to be in the ballpark with tube size and length and also collector size and length

Unless the window sicker lists them as a delete they will be shipped with the car. The only benefit the dealer will receive is they will not incur the labor to install them.

TO get an idea how much the stripes cost:

http://parts.autonationfordwhitebearlake.com/parts/2014/Ford/Mustang/Shelby%20GT500/?siteid=214771&vehicleid=403242&section=BODY%20HARDWARE&group=STRIPE%20TAPE

I have owned 4 late model GT500's. The stripes are never shipped with car! They come standard on the GT500 if you do not want them you have to do a stripe delete which BB mentioned.

Reason there is no return on $$ if stripes are deleted is because of the labor cost to install them. Labor is more than the cost of stripes. Side stripes are easy but the over the top are labor intensive . . . ask me how I know . .

GT500KR stripe kit was over 4000.00 but of course was not possible to order car without stripe kit although I was able to get a KR hood less the stripes . . Horrible quality from shelby too.

FE Technical Forum / Re: Temp gauge always reads hot.
« on: May 07, 2014, 07:32:05 PM »
Sorry if this has been covered. I'm too lazy to search.

When ignition turned on, gauge goes all the way too hot, as it should. Stays that way once started. I replaced the sender with a Intermotor TS24 from Summit. It came with some teflon tape on the threads, which I left on. Fortunately I have a spare gauge if it comes down to it, but I have no idea how to open that dash. I've tried.

There are 2 types of senders one for gauge and one for light.

As others have said the easiest way to trouble shoot is remove wire to sender and turn key to on. Gauge should not go up.
If that is ok then with key still on touch sender wire to ground, gauge should go all the way up.

If gauge goes up all the way with key on wire grounded the sender is the issue. If gauge goes up with wire off gauge and key on then its gauge or that wire is grounded. Is it a white with red or red with white wire?

Also double check if you have proper wire.

Check out spark plugs.

Leaving show yesterday it started running very rough obviously not running proper on at least one cylinder.

What I found when pulling plugs kind of surprised me. Plugs looked very clean but #3 had a issue. LOL

Plugs were also for a FE not a FT, proper plugs installed with proper gap and it runs much much better now.

It did not really miss at first just not smooth,

Beautiful!  Almost worth having a fire for  ;D

LOL!!

You're killing me with this stuff. I would LOVE to find one just like that to make into a period car hauler. I have a '54 COE, but to make it worthy and reliable enough (ie: with driveline parts you can actually find) for a car hauler would just cost too much.

That truck is beautiful. I passed on a couple some years back and now the prices are going up for the reasons I mentioned. Seriously regretting it now >:(

The intent has always been to make a Ramp Truck. Just had to find the right one. Had to be a 1966 F Series that was nice enough I did not have to tear apart and paint (restore).

So I will sell the water tank and do up a nice homebuilt Ramp. I have some very nice Semi Style Aluminum 14' Ramps I will use for driving up on.
I will integrate nice storage cabinets etc. Make it look 1966-70 Era.

Truck has a 20,000 GVW so no worry about going over weight.

Beautiful!  Almost worth having a fire for  ;D

It drives so nice I cannot keep out of it . . .

Wife wanted to run to Costco, 20 mile round trip. We took the Fire Truck!
Total hoot to drive it drives so well. Stops better than my Stock '66 F100

5520 Miles on it now . .  Over 100 Miles put on it already.

7.01 MPG the first Tank. But that was a lot of stop and go only 6 miles freeway @ 60-65 mph
Driving around GoodGuys, local driving not to mention for 1/2 that tank it was on 7 Cylinders.

Be nice to get 10 MPG . . LOL

The 5 spd and 2 spd rear axle make it nice for cruising.

Absolutely LOVE driving it. The Original tires take a few miles to smooth out, other than that its great.
