FE Technical Forum / Re: Eagle crankshaft and rod quality
« on: May 08, 2023, 02:44:56 PM »
Back around 10 years ago, Keith Craft had several engines destroyed because of cast Eagle cranks breaking at the 1/5 rod journal.  I have never used one because of that.  Not sure if it was a design issue that has been corrected, but I think I’d wait for a Scat.  Should be the end of this month if you want a cast crank.

Not a big fan of Eagle rods either, the cap fit and bore dimensions just aren’t on par with other manufacturers.
Brent, do you think that is a realistic timeframes? Seems like deliveries keep getting pushed back a couple of months when the time comes. I know Scat had some FE rods available a few weeks ago but they sold out quick.

FE Technical Forum / Re: JBA headers...
« on: April 02, 2023, 11:33:05 AM »
I have the JBA's on the 67 that I'm building.  I'm using a Steeriods RP steering and needed to clearance the header slightly where the 6 and 8 tube merge. I also needed to grind on the bottom of the scatter shield as one of the tubes hit that. I think that a Total Control RP might not need any clearancing since the u-joint sits closer to where the orginal steering box sits.

This might work for some of you with Jay's Tunnel port intake adapter.

I think the general consensus is if it's had all eight cylinders sleeved it's not worth it trying to buy new pistons and time for a new block.

Dave Bliss retired a few years ago and I'm not sure if he's taking any work anymore. There's http://parklandautomachine.com/
I haven't used them but they are Ford guys.

Have you considered having a vinyl wrap made?

When I was a kid I knew a guy who had one that was for sale. Out of my price range, but I wanted it bad.

Your best bet would be to try and find someone who does it for side work out of their house. Most commercial shops aren't interested in that type of work. Maybe contact some local mustang or chevy clubs as they might know someone.

FE Technical Forum / Re: Mini starter question
« on: December 17, 2022, 04:31:47 PM »
Thanks for the responses.  I had forgotten about the Robbmc starter. My main concern is about having to grind on the block. I might try a stock rebuilt starter first. There is a local company that does starter rebuilds that I will probably use. If that doesn't hold up then I'll get the Robbmc.

FE Technical Forum / Mini starter question
« on: December 12, 2022, 12:17:11 PM »
I'm thinking about what starter would work best for my 427 build. Would a standard Ford rebuild work fine on a 10.5-1 motor? Or would something like a Powermaster mini work better? I've seen where some of the aftermarket starters require some grinding on the block which I would rather not do. Is there any of the aftermarket starters that don't require grinding?

I would go with at least an Edelbrock head and fill the intake runner on the manifold with epoxy.  Also you can get the repo 406 shorty headers instead of the factory log manifolds.  Get a hydraulic roller and you should be good to go.
