Perfect idle.   Sounds “frisky”

I ran a set of 351m/400 headers on mine for years.  I don’t know how much it hurt power but it ran good anyway.  Had a cool swirl carbon pattern on face of header flange.   They do hang a little lower but it was in a 70f250 4x4.  I really think the tubes will stretch to a 4bbl flange with some careful heat

I had a case once that , no matter what gear except the one that came out of it, could not be made happy.    Got different case and all was easy

I wish someone would hurry.   My old , beat up stuff needs an update to keep me from crossing over to the other side (385 series)

From time of assembly with pistons dunked in oil till time to fire engine, how much oil is still up in the cyls?     I’m guessing no more than a thin film?   Jmo

I vote for love separation angle tests.  But then it starts into “where do you stop”?

I’ve done the wrench and stretch gauge on the bolt at the same time.   It takes a GOOD 7/16” wrench with a cheater on it to make the roughly 80ft lb it takes.    I got to where I could make the torque in one smooth pull.     It also makes some nicely bent wrenches that work really good for big block header bolts    Sucks that my collection got stolen and have to go back to regular straight wrenches. It would have been easier to use a torque wrench with the available bolt lube offered now as opposed to what I had on hand at the time

I usually do what Drew does.   If there isn’t a spot on the pan, I take a pipe coupling and carve it at the angle I want and weld it to the pan then use the adapter to brake line and trim to fit.

Many years ago we broke open a sodium valve and dug a small piece out and dropped it in some water.   All it did was fizz and run around on top of the water till it was gone.

What would be the best \ most common application for the 6r80?   The more common, the cheaper, or easier to get?

FE Technical Forum / Re: Gas ported piston rings
« on: September 17, 2020, 06:01:09 PM »
I remember ,once, that plasma ceramic rings were offered as the new hot item.   What ever became of those?   How did they fare in usage?     Also when I first tore down my tunnelport when I first got it - it had slight “chatter marks” in the cyls.  It had led a hard life in a nitrous mud truck before I got it. I just chalked it up to “ring flutter” and never really gave it anymore thought, but I never saw that pattern in any of the other engines that I went through.
