i put a 1 inch pneumatic spacer on my 428 and still boiled the winter grade fuel.like i said needing better fuels  is the main problem because if it boils in my lawnmower and weed eater too.i cant put spacers on my lawnmower. ask Jay,he will say the same thing

i have had this problem many times this time if the year is when it happens.winter grade fuels are still in some pumps.winter grade fuels will boil easy in warm spring weather+i use 91-93 no ethanol it dont boil as easy either.it even boiled in my lawn mower when i used reg with ethanol.i bet if you throw some better fuel in it preferably with no ethanol i bet it will solve your problem

my neighbor pulled a 428 out of my comet a few years ago.i had the intake bolts out and he did not notice it.never fear i had the right stuff on it and it came out trans and all without pulling loose.i had to use razor knifes everywhere i could reach.then i used my engine puller to put pressure on it while i trimmed.i got it off.

FE Technical Forum / Re: 410 vs 428 Power Difference
« on: January 01, 2022, 01:43:09 AM »
Years ago I think Jim Dove (if I'm not mistaken) wrote an article on building the FE engines. In it he stated that the pre-64 FE blocks were a bit beefier than the later blocks. I mentioned it once and the guru's on FE Fanatics shot me down. So, I don't know if they were or weren't. The only thing I know was I read it from a reputable source I thought at the time.
SAME HERE JUST DIFFERENT it was not Dove, someone different.when i was a teen and early 20s, i was living, eating, breathing, sleeping, dreaming,FE engines back in the early 80s.i read an article that said 66-c6me blocks were the best bar none, the c6me-a weren't bad is how i remember it quoted.and the same article had a pic of dozens of FE blocks lined up in rows on the floor. and also i got shot down like an outlaw in the old west.

66-67 gt fairlane, cyclone, mustang had the bell with the hump all the way around,i just used one and put a 12" clutch in it,cleared everything good,no problem.

i should have known better than to brag on the napa starter that i have that lasted for years.when i hit my starter button i hear a weird thump before it starts cranking.whats odd about it is it dont sound like the normal starter clanking noise, like when it kicks out or hits too hard.it almost sounds like a compression noise like the engine tried to start for a split second before it starts cranking.other than that it starts rite up. any ideas, also i had to tighten my drivers side motor mount,it must have vibrated loose or i didnt have it tight enough.i dont know if that had anything to do with it or not.

last time i used the right stuff, some bubbles formed in it,it left some air pockets, luckily it still held, but i didn't like seeing the air pockets in it

i tried an alu heat shield years ago,it worked but it was hard to get on with the headers,i also tried wrapping the starter.it worked but the wrap deteriorated over time.

for just a decent stock starter i have had good luck at napa.i actually got a correct part number for a 428.has lasted many years with headers on the street,BUT,in a race or serious street power situation,i would go with the RobbMc. my dad put one on his fairlane 10 years ago and he dont worry at all anymore.

i got out monday and tried out my shifting after adjusting the clutch arm and tightening the z-bar bolt and i was surprised.i didnt try power shifting but it was smooth at 6000,letting off just a little between changes.im going to order some steel shifter bushings and then i think it will be safe to try power shifts

i was going to ask if the steel shifter linkage bushings would be better than the plastic ones that come with the shifter.i know the steel would be more durable, but would they work better at high rpm shifts?

thanks Doug,i adjusted my clutch linkage and tightened my z bar bolt.im going to give it another try today.if it dont improve i will look into a set of those older blocker rings.i have to get this thing shifting right or i wasted a bunch of money converting back to a 4 speed.c6 was great, lasted for years and i never missed 1 shift!

it could be lifting the motor.my engine support on the drivers side has the hole drilled out bigger than normal.it might lift out the enlarged hole and sit back in it when i let off the gas.i had a chain on another engine that was in it with a small amount of slack so the engine could move a little.i may put it on and see if that helps.
