FE Technical Forum / Re: BBM BLOCK OIL GALLEY NOT DRILLED
« on: July 26, 2022, 01:01:33 PM »
no block problems but,i bought a set of bbm heads,at the time all i had was stock bolts  with my hs rockers.while torquing the rockers,i did not know that the stock rocker bolts were too long for bbm heads when used with hs rockers with stock bolts.i busted into the runners with the rocker bolts and it caused a smoking issue.the aluminum at the bottom of the rocker stand bolts is only as thick as a dime.while torquing these bolts i did not even feel it busting through to the runners.

i put a power handle on the crank bolt and rotate 1/4 turn at a time while watching the cylinder that im doing next,in firing order.when it comes to adjusting valves im in no hurry.i like to make sure they are perfect,or there is no need in setting them .i dont like bumping my starter.i have had a little bad luck in the past with headers on the street with my starters hot.i have harland sharps too,i think they recommend 0-1 thread showing under the adjuster for proper pushrod length.

i took my carb apart again, cleaned every spec of junk i could find in the nooks and crannies, for now i had to put the bad acc pump diaphram back in.its hard to start, but once its running it sounds good,no backfire.i took the jets out and cleaned under them,i think it was plugged underneath them.the backfire must have been a lean condition?

after just a couple days my acc. pump diaphragm started coming apart.i noticed when i bought it at the auto parts store yesterday it had a gooey looking glue on it.i even pulled a little of it off before i put it on my carb.could it be i bought a faulty pump. i havn't touched the timing.

thank you Brent for sticking your neck out and experimenting with this FE stuff.it takes someone with a big set to do these experimental engines openly in front of a big audience.i dont see how you get anything done hauling that big set around all day in a wheelbarrow.

the truck has been sitting for a few years,i have not driven it yet.at idle it might backfire every 5  or 10 seconds,if i rev it it backfires louder.i dont have all the bugs out of it yet.it needs a complete tuneup.all i did was oil change, plugs, sanded the points and cleaned the carb 3 times.it did not backfire till this last time i took it apart and cleaned it.the fuel pump is questionable,it fills the carb but it dont have much pressure.you have to prime the carb with a few ounces of fuel to get it to start.but once its running it will stay running

ok heres where im at now.engine runs smooth with my dripper bottle feeding the carb, but it dies as soon as you turn the dripper off.im getting fuel to the 2bbl carb because i was going to take the fuel line loose from the carb and gas went everywhere, fuel pump is working but squirters are not squirting any fuel.bad accelerator pump or clog or something?
