This is what I ended up getting. The nice thing about it is I got to attach it to the old three speed shifter that I left in the car. When I go on trips and driving around town I can put the shifter in second gear and be able to read the speedometer and calculate gas mileage on trips. The screw clamp that holds it on is completely hidden inside the mount also. Neat application.

Here's a picture of the alternation I did to the Lakewood Bell housing to get my FPA headers to fit. It was miner and I was still able to use every bolt needed for the housing. Most non radial drag slicks are required to have tubes by their manufacturer, but I know of virtually nobody that runs tubes. I have Hoosier slicks on my Mustang, and M/Ts on my Fairmont, no tubes in either, and they work well, and can sit for over a month without needing any air added. I am thinking a quick time style tire would have thicker sidewalls than a real slick, so I wouldn`t worry about tubes myself.

Just curious as to what clutch style you guys with FE Quicktime bellhousings are using. All the FE bells I see in thew QT catalog say they are meant for diagphram clutches, which to me is ridiculous, as every factory FE car with a standard transmission left the factory with a Long style clutch, as does virtually every FE powered car that runs down the 1/4 mile quickly enough to be required to have a SFI scattershield to race legally. I have heard that some guys made a QT work with a Long by stacking up block plates, but that brings its own problems with it.

   I just assumed the Quick time had the same hinge plate as the Lakewood. In fact you knock out the rivets in the old hinge plate on the stock bell housing, tap the holes in the Lakewood and bolt the new hinge plate in.  I didn't know the Quicktime was any different. I use a throwout bearing with my diaphragm clutch plate that looks just like a Long Style. But, the throw out bearing is from Mike Forte (it may be special made just like the needle pilot bearing he came up with. I've got almost 40K miles on that setup so you know it works. I probably don't need a scatter shield but after seeing a spectator go to the hospital during a burnout contest, I run a steel flywheel and scatter shield.

Guys,
   I need some help here. I'm looking at The Hoosier Quick Time Pro and I see where it needs a tube. Sooooo, I begin looking at tubes and it says the valve stem is centered (I guess it means the center of the wheel). Well, I'm going to be using a Wheel Vintiques OE Ford rim and I know the valve stem on those are not centered in the wheel. Question: can I use a regular tube that would fit the tire and wheel or do I have to have special tubes for slicks.

OK. I talked to Stan at FPA. He def knows his Fords . In the next few weeks I will have me some sweet     new headers. Thanks guys
Believe me, after my experience with him, I figure you'll be happy too. They are expensive though.

Let me clarify how my Tremec TKO install went. I called Bradley Wedan in Columbus, In and told him I wanted to put a Tremec TKO 600 in my 57 Ford with FE engine. HE gathered all the parts. He sent me the Lakewood Bell Housing, McCleod clutch and pressure plate, Mike Forte's needle bearing pilot bearing ( Mike Forte was the first guy I think to put a Tremec behind an FE and made the pilot bearing himself), thowout bearing, and ordered the TKO 600 from Tremec with the shortened input shaft to fit the application without using spacers and he sent me the rubber transmission mount. He also used the long throw shift pattern that I wanted. I had about $4500 in the conversion.
The moral to this is, I didn't know what I was doing so I found people that did it for a living and followed their instructions. I couldn't have ordered the parts any cheaper myself and probably saved money doing it. Nothing went wrong with the installation and 40,000 miles later it goes thru the quarter in 14.3 and gets about 10,000 miles a year put on it. I paid for that to happen.

I've got a set of Mad Dog long tube headers on my 63 Galaxie. If it weren't so much work them suckers would be traded for a set of shorty headers  tomorrow. What the hell was I thinking. They are nice headers, don't leak and look good. I'm just tired of raising my ass off the seat every time I go across a bump in the road.

   I run a Tremec TKO 600 behind my 410 in the 57 Fairlane. Stan Johnson (FPA) sells the Quicktime Bell Housing and he uses that bell housing to model his headers for use with the Tremec. I used a Lakewood Bell housing and had to notch the flange just a little to get his headers on my car. I'll try and post some pictures of it if I can get photobucket to work.

I'm replacing my 5" Sunpro tachometer with the flashing light that I set for 10,000 rpm just so it won't come on. The first one I bought didn't go over 3500 rpm so they told me to keep it and sent another one that worked. This one seems to work fine but it hides my speedometer when I go to car shows and take trips. I want a smaller 3 3/8" tachometer.
WHAT TACHOMETER DO YOU GUYS RECOMMEND THAT IS 3 3/8" AND YOU'VE FOUND ACCURATE AND DEPENDED ON FOR DRAG RACING IN YOUR CARS.

I run a duraspark on my 406. I needed the 5 degree timing retard. Re-curving the mechanical is easy and it's perfect if you'll measure the slot correctly after altering. The coil: I used a oil filled OEM unit that had to be mounted upright. I did this mainly because I didn't care if it misfired at 6500 rpm. Been on there two years and haven't burnt out my ignition module like a lot do by experimenting. I figured being broke down 500 miles from home wasn't worth the extra voltage a whiz bang high output coil could give me.

   My peak power is suppose to be at 5000 rpm and that's where I've been shifting. I've got cast pistons and hydraulic valves in this engine. When I had Scott make the cam I specified 5000 because I wanted the benefit of the cast pistons and hydraulic valves gave me.

Guys,
   I've got another question and it's about shift points. My car won't set the world on fire when it comes to going thru the quarter mile but since I'm bound and determined to tear it up I'd like some advice on shift point. I know I should get my car dynode but I'm scared shitless of that. I've watched a couple guys hook their cruisers up to a dyno at some of the shows and watched them call a wrecker to get them back home after the guy laid on the gas until it blew up or had a fan belt dent the hood.
  Do you look at highest average HP or average Torque to ball-park where you should shift. Or do you have to consider both. I've got two software programs that give me different HP and Torque calculations but both are the same where it comes to the graph. Other words one gives less rpm and hp calculations but both programs coincide with the curve (rpm) to get the results.
A ball park answer will suffice also. It's not like I'm shaving tenths here and I'm not getting ready to go professional. lol  Thanks guys.
