Thanks for the replys as it turns out the trans is a mustang trans (69) and was last used in the 90's the owner used it in a street car for a short while then took it out as he said it didn't down shift well. Pics in about a week.

It looks like it may have over traveled and leaked or the seal may  have twisted from being installed dry either way I would install a new seal ( buy two ) before putting it all back together.

I just came back from my local Auto Zone it is literally 1/2 mile from my garage and way to easy to go to until you have to deal with Mohammad I don't believe he's a bad guy but he cant speak English well enough to save his life, I wont be going back there again. I have been using Rock auto and I did tonight $.16 thermostat housing gaskets AZ-$1.99. Its hard to stop doing something you think is easier.

FE Technical Forum / Re: Distributor off by one tooth
« on: July 09, 2018, 10:22:01 AM »
I thought moving the distributor one tooth would change where 0* was in relation to the pointer, I have an engine that runs OK and starts OK being timed at 15* initial but when I hand turn the distributor to where it runs the best and smoothest the balancer and pointer are reading 35* I have never ran into one but is this what a spun balancer rings looks like ?

A FE distributor installed off by 1 tooth would that change the timing seen at the balancer by approximately 30* ?
