I was gifted this cam.  There is a small divot on one lobe, not directly on the nose but close. Builder said buy another cam, claims factory defect out of the box. Yeah...not convinced but anyway,go or no go?   Thanks!

Thanks! Went with Aeroquip PTFE hose and fittings. Always been good quality in the past. Like usual,1 fitting back ordered. Story of my life...

We do have Tubes N Hoses here and they can make me one up but won't match the other mile of braided that's on the car. Speedway has a 3 ft piece of PTFE and fittings that should be perfect.   Thanks!

I have an issue with the power steering pressure hose pulling out of the fitting. The other Ford big block,Saginaw pump set at 1100 psi, -6 double sheathed stainless braided hose rated at 1500 psi, not sure of the fitting brand. Anyway, the hose eventually worked it's way out of the fitting for a really nice oil down. The guy wants to keep the braided look to match everything else.  So the question...any of you have any recommendations for braided hose and fittings suitable for high pressure hydraulic type situations?  Thanks!

Thanks,Kevin! the motor...and crank was lifted out of a 74 pickup, definitely 390,had 410 pistons,D4 casting,I think Dec,73 date. So...I'm back in business using the crank in a car without a bunch of mods?

I'm doing that, ask we speak but, offset grinding it to SBC journals, as well.

You will have to have the snout turned down from 1 3/4 to 1 3/8. The center in the snout will not be on center of the main bearing, so it will have to be recut first. A machine shop will charge you about 3.5 hr labor to turn it and recut the keyways. I do that part myself. You will then have to open the flywheel to the FT diameter. Add another hr for that.

Offset grinding it costs a additional $600, including bearings.

1 3/4 to 1 3/8? This crank is at 1 3/8 now. I'm confused...what's the diameter of a car crank snout?

I have this 3U crank with 1 3/8 snout. From what I've read,it's an FT steel piece. Sounds exciting but since it would go into a car with a toploader, not really sure of the pitfalls. Balance, accessory brackets,pulleys....or should I dump it and find a car crank? It's a really nice standard crank and would probably stay that way if it's usable.   Thanks!

Success! You definitely have to go deeper with the tap than you would think. Half a turn at a time...not a whole lot of room for mistakes. The ridge has to come out as the tap extends into the lifter bore quite a bit. Deburr the hole and a couple turns with the hone in the bore and I'm done. Hey,if any of guys are inclined to do this and need a long tap, this one on eBay for 21 bucks. Fits perfect in the outside hole so always starts straight.

Thanks gentlemen! That clears things up lol. Anyway, I guess I'm on a mission to do the screw in deal. I do have the Pioneer plugs and they are shorter and more flat on the end than the original plugs that were in the other holes. First thing, found my tap was too short, nobody in town ever heard of the extended reach variety. Ordered one online...they don't give them away. Update to follow...

I'm prepping a mirror 105 block that has all screw in plugs except the one in the distributor hole. I knocked the cup plug out for cleaning and would like to put a screw in plug in that location. The factory drilled the hole, stopping about 1/16 inch from the lifter bore, leaving a ridge with the ID of the gallery bore. If I run a tap in there it will surely mess up that ridge. Should I go ahead and tap it as is,drill the hole all the way through with a 7/16 drill and tap...or leave it as is and stick another plug back in. It's a nice standard block and I don't want to screw it up.
Thanks!

You might consider some K member spacers. They allow the motor to sit lower in the body giving more room for the trans. Also allows for more hood clearance and a better angle on the motor. Have used up to 1 1/2 with no problems...probably could have gone thicker. You will need adjustable coil overs for desired ride height.

We had some Crites on a T Bolt clone with the same situation. We had to get really creative to get the collector off.I knew it would be the case as it went on hard to begin with. Ended up expanding the collector tubes slightly for an easier fit.
