Iā€™m looking for a source for a 1.5ā€x .312ā€ cam pin. Or .312ā€ cam pin stock that I can cut to length.

Thanks,

Non-FE Discussion Forum / 1965 to 66 Galaxie parts interchange
« on: September 09, 2020, 12:18:57 PM »
What is interchangeable between '65 to '66? I'm fairly positive the frames are the same. What about windshield?   Bumpers? Front sheet metal? Deck lid? etc..  I have a '66 custom with a bad frame and found a '65 hardtop for sale with a decent frame. Obviously the hard top is more desirable. Just curious what parts I could steal from one for the other. I appreciate any help.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Bad cell in a lead acid battery
« on: June 03, 2020, 08:01:01 AM »
Just got my '86 F-150 with a 406 in it running. The battery in it was new last year. I've been running the truck for a few weeks with no issues. Get in it yesterday hit the key and it started slower than usual. Thought to myself well that's odd... Took it around the block, got it home shut it off, hit the key and just a click. Voltage at the battery was around 14.7. Put the boost pack on it and fires right up. My 86 year old grandfather shows up I tell him whats going on. He said try a different battery you probably got a bad cell. Different battery and bam fired right up. Other than the possibility of being a defective battery, what else would contribute to killing a battery cell like that?  I ran that battery all last summer with the same alternator when I had a 352 in the truck and never had an issue. The battery has never been on a charger or boosted since I bought it, besides yesterday.

FE Technical Forum / Dyke rings.... Love em? Hate em?
« on: May 14, 2020, 06:48:46 AM »
In typical fashion I'm not done putting my 406 together and I'm thinking about the next build. I have a set of .040" over 390 JE Comp eliminator pistons. They have had a ton of work done to them and are pretty darn light. I bought them and they had very little time on them and had the old rings.. The ring lands are cut to run a spacer and a dyke ring so I stuck with that package. Sent the old rings to Total seal and had them put a package together for me. The sales guy at Total seal was pretty impressed with the setup. At the time I was building a strip only engine but may have changed directions.

How well will Dyke rings live on a limited street/ strip application? Say 11:1 compression, 7000rpm max and maybe 500-800 street miles and 25 passes a season. I'd like to run Molnar rods, a crank that's lighter than stock, TFS heads and a hydraulic roller. Keep the pistons and rings? Ditch the idea and run a conventional ring package? I have ZERO experience with Dyke rings and appreciate any input.

FE Technical Forum / Steel shim head gaskets...
« on: May 07, 2020, 05:53:54 AM »
Does anyone have any experience with running steel shim head gaskets? The SCE Pro Seal Steel Shim Head Gaskets 534252 or Mr. Gasket Head Gaskets 1132G. They both compress at .020" and that's what I need to hit my numbers(10:1). Will they last on an iron head street driven engine without leaking?

FE Technical Forum / Main bearing taper..
« on: May 06, 2020, 05:48:29 AM »
Checking main bearing clearance last night and I have a couple bearings with some pretty healthy taper. The block has been align honed and and I'm checking clearances using a bore gauge. Even when I move the bearing halves to a different cap/saddle I'm still seeing about .0005" of taper. This is using a 125M10 bearing. It's not all bearings only 2 sets out of 5. When I was putting together an engine last year I seem to recall the same issue with the 125M. I had to use Cleveland bearings to get clearance then and it solved the taper issue also. I need to gain a little clearance on this one but I cant seem to find .011" Cleveland bearings. The mains without taper are .0018-.002.. The mains with taper are .002-.0025 and .0025-.003. The crank is a fresh grind and checks out within .0002" across all 5. I haven't Mic'd the bearings yet. Is anyone else seeing this with FM bearings? I hope its not just me!

FE Technical Forum / TRW pin locks..
« on: March 10, 2020, 11:08:39 AM »
Does anyone have a part# for SpiroLox or clips for TRW pistons? I'm guessing they are factory size locks. I just don't have a set of pistons in front of me to measure the clip groove. Thanks.

FE Technical Forum / Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 EFI reviews
« on: February 04, 2020, 11:20:24 AM »
I know there have been a couple topics in the past about this set up. Does anyone experience and some miles on this EFI set up? I'm building a 406 for my '86 F-150 that I daily drive in the summer. The truck was originally a 351 with a carb. I've been running the truck now with a tired old 352 that I put in last spring. The truck has dual tanks so I would like to use the Edelbrock EFI sump that mounts under the hood and uses your low pressure mechanical pump. Any input is appreciated..

Came out of a donor truck engine I bought. Definitely needs a good bath. A couple of the plastic clips on the plugs are broken. I'm unsure if the module or the pickup still work or not. $50 plus shipping from 13132. Fred.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Detroit locker rebuild...
« on: August 13, 2019, 05:33:11 AM »
Does anyone have any experience with having detroit lockers rebuilt? Are they rebuildable? Is it worth it? I've got an older one that has turned into the mystery locker.

Does anyone have any experience in going from a 5.4l to a 4.6l? Here's the back story.... My dad has a 2005 F-150 4.6L 4X4 he bought new. Plain Jane no power windows, locks, vinyl floor mat, etc... Upstate NY winters have taken its toll on it for sure.. The box looks like swish cheese and cabs showing the same signs. But amazingly the frame is still in nice shape and the engine runs like a watch. So he recently just bought a 2004 FX4 F-150 with a grenaded 5.4L 3 valve engine. The frame is totally shot on this truck BUT the cab and all other sheet metal is pretty nice. Plus this cab has Power seats, windows, locks, sliding rear, Cd and Cassette player(I think that's why he bought it).   We're thinking about taking the nicer cab and putting it onto his frame and drivetrain. I am going to assume its going to be a wiring nightmare. Will the 4.6 engine harness plug into the 5.4l pin connector? Will the computer need to be reprogrammed? I've searched truck forums and had no luck getting a straight answer.. Just guys bashing the 4.6 and saying the 5.4 3V is the best engine ever! Any advice is appreciated.. Just trying to help my dad out.

Whats the smallest someone has safely gone? I'm running edelbrock heads with precision pumps bronze bushed rockers. Precision pump M-57HV oil pump. I have a holley 78 jet in the heads now. Priming the pump to 75psi with the valve covers off will flood the heads. I have .003" main clearance and .0025" on the bbc rods. Engine hot @ idle is about 5psi, 50psi @ cruise and 70-75psi @ WOT. The block is half filled and the car runs warmer than I would like. I'm installing an aluminum radiator, electric fan and water pump. Also installing a oil cooler.. I'm just curious if I can go a little smaller to keep some oil down low without completely starving the rockers.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Garage floor paint...
« on: July 10, 2019, 09:28:16 AM »
What's everyone using for a garage floor paint/epoxy? I'm looking to do something with my garage floor to help brighten up the space (40' x 40') and help cut down on the dust. Its an older floor from the 80's and it never stops creating dust. Just curious to see what you guys have had luck with in the past.

FE Technical Forum / Main bearings and clearance...
« on: June 21, 2019, 07:12:45 AM »
Working on the assembly of my 451" after the cam bearing dilemma. Light polish on the crank. Mic'd the journals up and they are few tenths under. Torqued the caps down with 125M bearings. My clearances are coming in around .0018-.0022. The last time I put the engine together using the same brand bearings they came in at .0025"-.0027".. I know bearing MFG's allow a .0005" tolerance.   Has anyone had any experience with another brand bearing that tend to run on the looser side? I hate to buy another set of 125M and have them be the same. Anyone have experience with Cleveland bearings? I know you have to remove the tang. What is the part number for a 3/4 groove Cleveland bearing to allow .001" more clearance?  Fred
