FE Technical Forum / Oil accumulators
« on: August 23, 2015, 07:50:03 PM »
Have'nt used one.
Seems like a good idea.
Obviously not necessary, but is it a good idea for drag racing? Does it solve a non existent problem?
Have seen all the sales vids etc. but would like real world experience from you guys.

Check this out.
I wrote T&D sales an email asking for a pn and price. The reply kinda wierded me out. Am I wrong?
My email subject was, "BBM heads for Ford". Sheldon is the sales dude.

Hi Guys
Just a preliminary question.
Have a set of BBM heads for my 428.
Drag car, 650ish hp, spinning to 6800ish.
Car is under construction.
Which pn do you suggest?
And can you give me a price?
Thank you
Marc

WHAT HEAD ARE YOU USING ?                 ( Why is he yelling?)

Read the second line again, BBM :-)

BBM typically stands for Big Block Mopar. I have never heard of a BBM Ford
head before now. Since it's a head that we have never had I would been a
head to design a set for itr

AAh
That's kinda why I was asking since I didn't see them in the catalog.
BBM is Bear Block Motors.
They've been around for about two years now.
http://bearblockmotors.com
It's been a pretty big deal in the FE world.
I guess no one's into FEs up there? :-)

No answer after that. Hey I used happy faces.
I know a lot of you guys have worked with them before and have been very happy.
I'm just surprised that they don't know what's going on.

FE Technical Forum / Dyno results curiosities
« on: May 10, 2015, 04:53:38 PM »
Thanks for starting the Dyno and 1/4 mile results child boards Jay.
The posts are very interesting.
One question I have is, I don't see any combos with 6.8 rods ( save one on the TP by Brent )
Matter of fact I don't recall seeing one at all in the last few years (except mine for my truck  :) and the one by Brent).
Is there a reason for that?

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Fuel cell size
« on: April 25, 2015, 06:49:31 PM »
Almost done with rust repair on the Fairlane.
Have stripped the trunk and am about to install new floor and repurpose the space.
I am figuring on a 12 gallon cell. It's a race dedicated car but I can't rule out a few trips on the street.
What are you guys doing in respect to your fuel storage.
For that matter, I'll take any advice at all (and pictures) on race trunk work.
Thank you kindly in advance.

FE Technical Forum / New toys that will benefit us
« on: April 21, 2015, 06:21:44 PM »
As some of you know, my brother (Ryan) owns SCE and SPM gasket companies.
He has wanted to contribute to the FE cause because his brother (me) is a dyed in the wool Ford guy and he loves old junk too. And if he can make a buck or two, all the better.
We recently brain bashed on a new FE head gasket, made out of new materials which some of you guys gave input on and have seen and or felt in your hands. The gasket was a smaller bore deal (4.250). I have the first one running on my truck now.
He knows that he has to have a bigger bore set (4.40) after talking to Barry, Jay and many others.
I kept after him wondering when he was going to order the tooling to be made. For a while he just gave me a grin and a "wouldn't it be nice if......".
Well today he received the "if". A beautiful new Haas tool making deal (I don't know what the heck it's called, I'm a stupid camera operator). So now he doesn't have to order tools to be made from another company and wait. He can just make them himself and poof, FE fun.
Upshot is that a big bore FE head gasket will soon be made. As well as other stuff.
Here's a couple shots of it arriving and getting set.

FE Technical Forum / Chromoly vs steel and other roll bar stuff.
« on: September 18, 2014, 12:18:01 PM »
Pretty soon I'll be paying my pesos to have a roll bar and the subframe connectors installed in the Fairlane.
Figured I should have a pro do it as I know my limitations.
Trying to be smart  :o about which material to use for the roll bar.
From what I know chromoly is stronger lighter and more expensive.
Do I need it? Will I run into certification trouble if I don't have it?
Pros and cons?
Also 6 point vs 8 point. Thinking about the future and the car getting faster and ease of add ons.
From what I remember in the rules they are pretty lax (qualified) until you get into the 9s. I'm thinking 11.0 for now.
I'll search the rulebook again but would like real world experience.
Thanks for your time.

Private Classifieds / Coming to grip
« on: September 06, 2014, 12:38:03 PM »
I have to many projects stacked up so I'm coming to grips with the fact I won't get to some.
I started collecting 406 parts 'cause I dig 'em but I just won't get there so I'm going to let this stuff go.
This tri power and the heads are unmolested pieces in great shape.
Check it out yourselves.
I have not cc'd the heads yet but have a set of valves to do so.
These valves may or may not have come with the heads. Just got them to cc the chambers. They are 2.02 and 1.55.
That would prolly make these 390 Denver heads.
The guy I got them from is an old FE guy.
I'm thinking $400 (or?) for the heads and $1200 for the tri power.
Happy to deal.

Not Ford but that's not the point.
Beautiful photography (yes I'm a camera operator).
Thought you might find the foundry section interesting.

« on: June 29, 2013, 11:27:21 PM »
I haven't dared to speak of it before it was in my driveway but, I finally secured a '67 Fairlane.
The PO was sad to see it go but he needed the room and it was time.
Along with the car he threw in a bunch of parts. I scored pretty well.
He needed to clear some space so I got a U1 crank, a mexican(checking) C6ME block, 3 Holley 780s, headers, multiple seats, multiple dash gauges, multiple tail lights, interior panels, and I don't even know what else.
Also a few parts that we are haggling on like the Ed cross ram.
All in all a hell of a fun day.

As you can now see, it's been worked a bit but it's straight and it's all there.
So I'll get it into shape.
How 'bout that door gap.

FE Technical Forum / Oil pump drive size lesson
« on: May 15, 2013, 09:43:55 AM »
Sorry guys, more questions.
Why do FE pump drives come in two sizes (1/4, 5/16)?
I ssume 1/4 is standard, what were the applications for the 5/16?

FE Technical Forum / BK/BJ carbs lesson
« on: May 11, 2013, 06:12:10 PM »
Hi Guys
Ran into something I know nothing about.
BK and BJ carbs.
I've done a little research but can't find anything in depth yet.
Will someone shoot me a link or recommend a book or anything.
Wouldn't mind one of you talking about them IF you feel like typing.
I'm in sponge mode.
Thanks in advance.

Member Projects / Intro and current project
« on: January 30, 2013, 12:28:50 AM »
Hey Guys
Thought I'd introduce myself with a thread on my current project.
My name is Marc and I am a Fordaholic.
I've built a few Windsors and a Y block but never an FE from the ground up. Even though I own three. Four if you count the FT in my fire truck.
My current project is a new engine for my '74 F100 4x4 short bed.
I found this truck as a non running heap. Bought it and after a few weekends got it running and road safe.
It's been running like a top ever since.
When I first took the valve covers off a whole bunch of oil spilled out of each one, so I knew I may have some starvation issues in the lower end.
So I found a D4TE block and it is out getting sonic checked as I write this.
The plan is a 445 that will be a solid, lug able hunting truck. So I'm not going for a lot of compression and will run a very street able cam. I've had the heads done already. They are a set of D2T's. I did a nice valve job, cleaned up the intake ports and chambers but kept the stock valve diameters.
Edelbrock performer manifold the has been port matched. A set of Maddog fender well headers.
I think I'll run a complete roller valve train.
And thats about it.
Have very much enjoyed lurking for the past few days.
