FE Technical Forum / questions on a recurve kit for dizzy
« on: July 21, 2018, 09:58:07 PM »
I have a C5AE distributor and need some help with a recurve kit.
First, do the centrifugal weights change when recurving a dizzy? why I"m asking is the weights that are in this dist. don't have any bushings on the mounting shafts so they are very sloppy. The advance springs are both heavy springs so I know that's not right but the shaft and bushing in the dist. housing are nice and tight with no play. This came out of an engine I bought that is a 390 4 barrel with c7ae-a heads, c7ae-9425-e intake and c6me block. Block has no wear on it, standard pistons with no ridge and very good looking factory hone. bearings are original fomoco and look great.  Thanks in advance for your answer on the weights.    Bud

FE Technical Forum / intake gasket question
« on: May 09, 2018, 07:59:46 PM »
I recently bought a complete 390 engine and finally got around to see what the innards looked like.
This is a C7AE engine with matching heads and 4v intake. The heads have been rebuilt as the ex seats have been upgraded, but the bore is like brand new no ridge and the crosshatch is almost like new!
Mention to say it is a standard bore with original pistons and standard crank.
The guy has had it in his garage for years and said it came out of a 67 wagon that was t-boned and he bought the drive train out of it. Only thing it didn't have was the lifter valley heat shield.
Question is----- does any gasket company sell intake manifold gaskets that have the heat riser ports blocked off, or do I just have to fill them with some kind of metal or tin?.

   Thanks,  Bud in AZ

FE Technical Forum / rejetting for higher altitude
« on: April 04, 2018, 02:25:38 PM »
Hi guys,  running a C9AF-9510-C on a 390 engine.  Holley listing shows it as a 730 cfm. It's running 65 primary jets and 79 secondaries. What should I be running for jetting at 4900-5000 feet.

FE Technical Forum / copper exhaust manifold gaskets
« on: March 08, 2018, 12:24:39 AM »
Has anyone used copper gaskets to insure a good seal with the cast long tube headers?  Happened to see some on epay and looked pretty good with a raised ring around the port to compress when tightened.

FE Technical Forum / question on head porting
« on: February 09, 2018, 12:48:01 AM »
I just bought a good '67 390 engine and  want to do some light exhaust port cleanup on a set of C7AE-A heads. The gob of metal to the side of the port looks like it relates to the spark plug hole and it's threads. Can I blend this in to the port without finding air first?

FE Technical Forum / making a 4 hole intake into a dual plane type
« on: January 28, 2017, 07:51:35 PM »
I have a C7AE-9425-E intake and was wondering if there were any benefits of making it a dual port style base. I did this to a 292 y-block manifold on a well prepped engine and was pleased with the results. I went down in the port runners and ground out a lot of the sharp turns and restrictions to make it flow better. Later on I put on a Blue Thunder intake and REALLY woke it up.  If anyone has done this, is it worth the effort or should I just buy an Edelbrock Performer manifold? This is on a cammed up '67 428 with some head work on the C7AE-A heads. Also running cast long tube headers. Thanks from the ol man.
