FE Technical Forum / Valve Spring Compressor
« on: June 01, 2023, 07:23:09 PM »
Is Todd Oelerich (sp?) still selling that nice on-engine valve spring compressor? Can't find mine, and need to install some inner springs. Or a similar one? Thanks

FE Technical Forum / Mahle gaskets

Anyone used the Mahle valve cover gaskets? Wondering how thick they are? Been using the Mr Gasket 275's with good results, decent thickness, but the price is a little stiff. Thanks!

FE Technical Forum / L1246F .030 Ring Package?
« on: December 29, 2022, 07:40:04 PM »
I let a friend have this NOS set of TRWs to do a 416 deal, and the supposedly double throw down wingding FE expert shop can's figure out the ring package (with the pistons in hand), and they are 45 miles from me now. These are the basic "390 pickup" pistons, only question should be if the second ring is 5/64 or 3/32? I told him to ask the expert if he didn't have a caliper so he could measure the ring lands and the guy got real huffy  >:( I know I have an old TRW catalog somewhere but can't find it, anyone have one, a cross reference or know for sure what package they take? My guess is the guy is just pi$$ed because he didn't get to sell my friend a set of pistons lol

FE Technical Forum / Got lucky- and got happy- PIE tunnel ram
« on: April 06, 2022, 11:00:14 AM »
Got lucky, after shaking the dice- ran across this for sale, and also some PIE heads, which I have a couple sets of. Wondered/hoped maybe this was made for them. Seller was very helpful with some port measurements that seemed to match, so I bought it- and is is indeed made for the PIE ports. Price was reasonable too- happier than a two-dicked dog in a fire hydrant factory!

FE Technical Forum / Cobra LeMans valve cover availablity?
« on: April 02, 2022, 11:12:36 AM »
Just did some searching for current prices as I have a couple sets to sell next weekend, didn't find much. Tony Branda call with no price, didn't find them at all on Summit- are they just out of supply, discontinued, ??? They have been on Summit for a long time, seem to be gone

Just picked this up on a swap for FE parts. 64 F100 shortbed stepside, very solid and straight, bed wood has been replaced at some point. Lowered a bit, and I have my eye on a set of Torque Thrust clones in the right bolt pattern. '69 390/C6 runs great, has headers and a Champion alum radiator, B&M ratchet shifter and an Autometer 5" tach w/ shift light. Runs n drives well, clean paper/ non op. Thinking about that 3+1 OD toploader for a little mileage, maybe a Streetmaster and small Holley or a 4100. Always figured that my 97 Exploder would go south someday, and I would find a home for the 5.0 with GT40 heads, AOD and 8.8 posi/ disc brakes- but it won't die... would be sweet in this thing. Just have to think IT RUNS- LEAVE IT BE...
It also comes with cherry front & rear Jag suspensions......

FE Technical Forum / MSD steel distibutor gears
« on: March 26, 2022, 12:25:21 PM »
OK, looking for hard facts from the experienced FE builders, not "I think- I read- I heard" please. Are the "steel" gears supplied with the MSD #85941 distributors compatible with steel solid roller cams from Comp etc? MSD advertises them for use with hydraulic roller cams, no mention of solid rollers. This gear is also sold as #85813. I called the tech line this morning for clarification, and the response  seemed very CYA, that they could not recommend the gear for use with aftermarket cams as they had no control over the type of material the cams were made from, contact the cam manufacturer blah blah, so a non-answer. He did state that the gears were "melonized steel". So, is this gear compatible with the steel solid rollers, and if not, what do the knowledgable builders use with the MSD distributors with the larger shaft and solid rollers? The Crane 34970-1 is (was?) for the stock Ford shaft size, and comes up as "not available" where I have looked

« on: February 11, 2022, 12:46:25 PM »
Nice solid unit, exhaust crossover good, water passages good, no porting. Original carb studs, 3 valve cover holes have helicoils. Pretty complete, missing the breather basket, oil fill tube and crossover plugs. Correct original carbs have been rebuilt at some time but otherwise unmolested condition. Linkage and fuel log in good condition. Air cleaner is nice, no modifications or damage. Crossover shield is nice. Best original condition M-Code T-Bird setup I have seen. I am not going to clean this in any way, patina you see is what you get. $3000

« on: November 16, 2021, 01:32:41 PM »
Nice solid 1957 Ranchero- has already been a hot rod, was taken apart for paint and never finished. Set up for FE and 4-spd, had a 390 / T10 in it- can supply FE engine mild or wild and transmission. Has tilt column and front disc brakes, and is pretty complete. Has stainless trim and some chrome has been replated. Slot mags can be included, negotiable. No seats, but I have purchased a good windshield for it

« on: November 09, 2021, 10:33:47 AM »
Before I start piecing it out, I have a pretty clean '66 352-4V, nice bores, C6AE-Rs, C5 4V intake etc. It could go back together, except one piston/ rod is missing. If someone has a 66 and interested, let me know before it goes in pieces. One could make a sweet std bore 410 with that block, too, and with those heads, nice street/ 4x4 engine

Has S10 front frame clip installed, and comes with a new 4-link rear suspension kit. Car is very complete with lots of spares, nice grille and dash, seat frames, bumpers etc. Hard work is done, car will be sweet when completed. FE Technical Forum / OMG really?
« on: July 12, 2021, 11:13:22 AM »
OMG Hillbilly Engineering! Just ran across an ad for a "427", doesn't look too bad until I came across this in the description- "The block never came with cross bolts mains so I put bolts in". Huh? So I search thru the pics, and it's obviously a marine block with the big cut through the oil gallery, and then the pic of the "bolts". Look carefully, looks like some "bolts" just screwed up against the sides of some stock main caps- there are no bolt bosses on those caps...
