Non-FE Discussion Forum / Temp block preservation

Hi gents
Finally getting close to receiving my CJ block back from the machine shop.
I’ll be putting it together myself in my garage. It is not a controlled environment so the temp is way variable.
On my long storage blocks I slather on 30 wt with my hand and put a bag over them.
My question is, in a garage environment what would you use if you’re doing a slow build?
Is there a light spray that would fill the bill?

Private Classifieds / WTB 292 oil canister
« on: November 24, 2020, 01:17:43 PM »
Any of you 292 guys have an oil canister set up you wouldn’t mind parting with?
I’ve got an adapter on there and it’s been problematic. Figure I’ll just go back to the way it was designed and prolly (oops), probably be much happier. Not to mention my driveway won’t be as dirty.
Meanwhile I’ll be looking on the ol’ interweb.
Thanks
Marc

Hi guys
Anyone have an oil pan bolt hanging around for my CJ pan?
It’s 1/2 inch fine threadish.
Assuming it’s not a CJ only bolt. Never thought about pan bolts before.
I just know the old one won’t work.  ;D

Member Projects / CJ love

Got the new CJ home. Figured I do a thread on it as it will be an interesting project.
First the numbers. It is a 9C5 date coded block. C scratch on the rear. Partial vin stamp is 9H572337.
The heads are much later in the year one is a J, one is a K. The J head has a broken exhaust ear and a crack in the valve cover rail. Greg the gent I got it from has a replacement head for it. It comes with a Streetmaster manifold installed. I have been offered a CJ manifold and am undecided on if I’ll use it. It also came with adjustable rocker arms with hydraulic lifters. There are no exterior weights on the flywheel or damper. The paperwork that came with it shows balancing. It does not say internal and I haven’t gotten to the crank yet to check.
I’m waiting until I get a little farther into it before I decide what to do with it. But my initial thought is to put it in my Fairlane as I will be moving next year and it would be nice to have the Fairlane mobile.
Here’s some pics. Check out the China rail sealing.
BTW I understand about welding iron but wonder if there is still anybody out there that can fix it. Shame to lose an N head.

This kind of stuff doesn’t happen to me.
As some of you may know I’ve been cautiously looking for a 428 for my wagon as the 428 was replaced by a 390. Fair enough.
Frankly the prices for 428 stuff is pretty up there so I wasn’t holding much hope.
The other day a friend sent me a CL add for a 428 that was fairly close to me. I called the gentleman and had a nice conversation. It was his dads engine from a truck but the engine was a 428 from probably a large car. Although he did say there was a rumor it came out of a Shelby.
Fat chance. Besides I only need a 428. Any will do.
So I went out to check it out. It had 8 bolt logs on the exhaust and a truck oil filter adapter. But I measured the stroke and sure enough it was a 428. So I gave the man his money and loaded it up. It had a flywheel and plate on it so I couldn’t see the back of the engine.
This morning I cleaned it off and started checking numbers.
I’ll just show you the pix and you’ll get it.
Oh BTW (and I’m gloating now) $700

Private Classifieds / Air cleaner top
« on: June 30, 2020, 04:41:44 PM »
Bought this air cleaner off CL.
The top is a mismatch to the bottom. It’s a smaller 17 1/4 inch size. I need the larger 17 3/4 inch size.
The bottom is perfect for my wagon.
Anybody got the 17 3/4 top hanging around? Happy to swap or pay or pay and swap. Whatever.

Non-FE Discussion Forum / Did some erasing today
« on: June 28, 2020, 08:21:03 PM »
Thought I’d do something different today on the mustang so I tried out one of those sticker erasers that mount on a drill to take off the GT 350 stripes. I’ve got a set that shady made for me that say GTFE.
Could not believe how well it worked. Eraser then some cutting compound and it’s beautiful.

It can be messed up on top. I’ll just cut it off.
Gonna use it for a plug. Figure it’s cleaner than a wood plug or ?.
